Yep I was. I live about 2 hours west of Chicago, so if you are halfway around the Chicago region and got a 10-24 decision, I'm guessing the packet will be there Monday. Good luck!

Waiting for that letter to come in the mail is very nerve-racking. Since I can't call the admissions office to find out if I got accepted or waitlisted, I tried looking for "other clues" in the meantime. I thought the email from AMCAS about background checks would be a sure indicator that I got accepted into UIC, but I read somewhere that some schools request background checks on accepted AND waitlisted applicants.

Does anyone know if UIC only requests background checks on accepted students or do they do both accepted and waitlisted? If they only do accepted, then the AMCAS email is good news! If they do both, well...there's more to worry about.

As for choosing the Peoria campus, I agree with what dr87 said. Plus, my boyfriend lives there 🙂

right there with you on hoping to get an interview soon .. the waiting is literally driving me insane.
 
Couple questions for you Peoria fans...

So I know they have a lot more classroom hours than Chicago or Rockford, but I am curious, does that mean they have to study less? For example: At Rockford you are in class from 8 to 12, and then you study from 1 to 7... So you got 6 hours of studying in... So at Peoria, you are in class from 8 to 4, do you then have to study from 5 to 11 in order to learn the same amount?

I know how much someone studies is individual, I guess I am just getting at how the number hours in class corresponds to the number of hours you have to spend outside of class 🙂

So any last minute advice for people interviewing at the Chicago campus?
 
Question for those who have interviewed already: Were you asked what your GPA and MCAT scores are?

I know it is a blind interview, but it seems like some people in the past were asked for your numbers. If you were asked, how did you answer?
 
None of my interviewers asked about my stats. One specifically told me that she didn't know anything about my GPA and MCAT score. I replied, "in that case, I got a 45." Luckily she found it funny. I do believe that they have your secondary essays in hand for the interview and will probably ask you about your responses.
 
I got the CBC email today. I was interviewed on 10/2 and my decision was made 10/24. Now it's just a matter of if I receive the 'big envelope' in the mail...

i got the CBC email today (10/26), i interviewed on 10/15 and my final decision was made on 10/24.

i dont know if i will go to this school though: i wish i had interviewed at peoria or rockford so that i could have felt a different environment than what i encountered in chicago.
it just seemed like chicago was very competitive and the student body didnt seem very connected or happy. (even my student interviewer) maybe they were having a bad day but it was my impression.
 
The one campus I haven't heard any mention of is the Urbana campus. Does anyone have any information/preference on this one?
 
I am quite pleased right now. Does anyone know if they CBC waitlisters, in which case I may soon be not too pleased?

I'm in the same boat, but all the way in California so who knows how long it'll take to receive my envelop (small or big)... I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that they only CBC accepted applicants.

Yeah I'm in Pittsburgh, so it will be far from instant for me as well, my man.

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who got that impression. That's why I had been asking about the other campuses. Does this school have a second look?
 
Does anyone know if you can change your choice for which campus you want to attend? For example, say you pick Chicago on the little response card but later decide that you would prefer Peoria. Is that an option? I'm not sure which I prefer at the moment, but (assuming you can change your campus decision) I figure that picking Chicago is a safe move since it fills so fast. Thanks.

You should call the admissions office and ask them. I think you would probably be able to switch from Chicago to another track if you decide that is what you want to do later.
 
yeah, i think there's some sort of informal appeal process if you want to switch campuses.

The urbana campus isn't talked about much because for most people, you're only spending your first year there before going to peoria or rockford. But i also haven't heard much about them besides the fact that I go to U of I and i've been in one of the med school lecture halls and it seemed nice.

I called the admissions office today, and the lady I talked to said that it's almost impossible to change campuses after you already submit your preferences. She said doing so involves a lot of paperwork explaining why you changed your mind and that it's not guaranteed that you will get to make the change. So, if anyone else is as indecisive as I am, you'll want to make sure you make the right choice from the get go.

The majority of the 25 who stay in Champaign-Urbana are MD/PhD. I think around 5 or less MD students stay for the final three years. Still, it is a possibility if that is what you want to do.
 
Congratulations to everyone who has gotten an interview or acceptance! 🙂

I have a question: For those who interviewed on the Chicago campus, how was the atmosphere? I know some of you said that it felt weird, and it was competitive... so I'm really curious to know what it's like. I am leaning towards the Chicago campus if I do get an interview or acceptance, but it's probably kind of late right now.

Hey guys, my status page says "a decision has made made and is in the mail" or something along those lines. I'm assuming that it's a rejection making its way to my house? Did anyone get an interview through the mail? 🙁🙁

If it was an interview, you would have dates to select from. I am very sorry to bear bad news. I hope another school works out for you.

I was and I got the acceptance letter today at my parent's house. Congrats everyone!!
 
To all of you who have been accepted, Im interviewing December 8th, and am very antsy as UIC is my top choice. I was wondering if you guys could post any tips that you may think are helpful about the interview, and/or some of your stats.

I noticed that second and third year cost more than $100,000, where the money come from? It is just shocking to see the price tag. I love UIC and waiting for the decision, but the numbers just bother me, any thought?

I'm pretty sure its possible to become an illinois resident after the first year. You just have to do things like get an illinois drivers license, open an illinois bank account, etc. Just things to show that you are in the state for more than just educational purposes. I don't the logistics but I know that its possible.

That is OOS, IS is around $63,000 for M2 and M3.
 
Those are not the tuition costs though, that is the expected costs per year in the financial aid budget. Tuitions for each year are as follows:

IS
M1: $26,722
M2: $26,722 + $9,344
M3: $26,722 + $9,344
M4: $26,722

OOS
M1: $55,618
M2: $55,618 + $18,115
M3: $55,618 + $18,115
M4: $55,618
 
Hmm. Interesting information. If I get lucky enough to become accepted I would only be able to go if I could get IS tuition yrs 2-4. (Or I should say would only go....)

Looks like UIC is not going to be in the cards for you.

i dont want to be pessimistic, but at my interview at peoria, my interviewer/student who talked with my group at lunch was OOS. she is a M3 and says she still pays OOS tuition, and that there are many requirements to get in-state tuition. i am not too knowledgeable about it, and so I would try to get information on in-state tuition from financial aid office rather than at interview. also, i am sure you can find information on a pdf somewhere on the illinois government website. Good luck!

Thanks. Good point! it looks like you need 1 calendar year of non-educational living in Illinois as one factor. I wonder how being married influences the determination, because income from spouse is another factor. All good questions to consider...
 
I believe they give you a packet at your interview with all the guidelines.

If I remember correctly, you have to work and live in the state for a year and prove that you aren't there for educational purposes. So, I guess if you wanted M2-M4 at IS costs, then you would have to take a year break after M1. I'm not sure if that is fully correct though!
 
I believe that is correct. At my interview I talked with an M4 who had paid oos tuition all four years. She said that the financial aid office told her that she would have to take a non academic year to get IS tuition.
 
I had a decision made on 10-23 and got the CBC email immediately. Unfortunately, I have not received anything in the mail as of yet.

I live in central Illinois and I find it very odd that it takes this long for a letter to be sent from Chicago to arrive in central Illinois. Has anyone else had this issue, that is, they haven't received their letters yet but they live relatively close to Chicago?

I wonder if they send out their letters all at once or if they send out a few at a time?

Thanks. I interviewed in Peoria on the 16th, so it must've been some other Provo All Star that you met. I hope you get the good news packet soon!

I reside in Central Illinois as well and I got my packet in the mail this afternoon. Give it one or two more days and then give them a call.

Got the big packet today! I got the CBC email late (over the weekend) compared to some of the other posters here.

I'm excited! Going to be a doctor!! 🙂

Though I have to think about this one twice, cause the out-of-state tuition here is killer.

Further note, I live in California, and got the package 10/28/08.
