Wow guys, I'm actually stunned that they are already starting to place people somewhere other than their first choice. I believe what Dr. JD said makes a lot of sense -- they are placing people now based on what they believe to be the "best fit" for them instead of following the first-come first-serve model. If they are in fact doing that, I think its absolute garbage. Who does the AdCom think they are? To be able to judge where a person will spend the next four years of their life based on a few essays and where they've lived in the past? Bull***. We worked hard to make sure our applications were in early, so that we could be interviewed early, be accepted early, and have the ability to pick our site preference. Doesn't the admissions office realize that location plays an important role in an applicant's decision to matriculate?
Whew. Sorry for the rant.
There is one other thing I want to address, and that is the fact that Chicago has "175 spots" has been mentioned a few times on this thread. The truth is that there are not 175 spots. UIC has the GPPA undergraduate program, which guarantees a certain number of students a spot in their medical school. I don't know the exact number of GPPA students, but I'm willing to guess there are at least a dozen or so entering each year. Skrilladoc, maybe you know the exact number? There are also a certain number of reserved spots for the MD/PhD students at the Chicago campus. So when you factor all of that in, I'm guessing there are closer to 140 actual spots open for the taking. I still don't think that that many could have been filled up this fast, but it does lend credibility to that theory.
As I mentioned earlier, UMed is always an option for those who want to give Chicago a second shot; although it does mean playing the waiting game all over again. I'm sorry it didn't work out for some of you guys.
