Oh, crap sorry, I think I am bad at using forums. Sorry my last three posts make me sound like a bumbling idiot. Hahah, maybe I should rethink my career choice. 🙂

CBC is Criminal Background Check. All accepted UIC students get a CBC email from amcas (unless they have already for another school). So if you see your status change from "decision pending" to "decision made XX-XX-XXX" and get a CBC email, your in.

Ohhhh boy!! what a nerve-wreaking weekend it has been!

i also received the "Final Decision made.." and dated "Additional Correspondence." but it looks like no one received the CBC email this weekend

let's hope tomorrow is the magical day when those start appearing!!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!! :luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

Soooooo glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. Best of luck to all. Sleep well. I hope tomorrow brings good news!

Hey everyone, I applied pretty late to UIC and was wondering where they're up to as far as reviewing applications. What's the latest secondary completion date for someone here who's been offered an interview?

It takes them about 8-9 weeks from the date you complete your secondary and submit recommendation letters to process your file. After that time, you can log on to the site they have and check your status. It gets updated every tuesday n thursday, so you can check it on wednesday or friday morning and see if you are offered interview..

I have a question. I haven't even received an interview invite from UIC and had that same message in my status page when I checked today. It reads: "A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."

Do they do rejections this early in the admissions cycle? Or did you guys get this message before an interview invite? Anyone know? There is no date as to when the final decision was made on either.

I hate to tell you this but unfortunately when you get "final decision" on your status page before an interview it's a rejection. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks RueTay!!! I am actually content with UofI. I can't believe the wait is over (for me at least). site placement is not as important for me. I am just soooo grateful! congrats fellow compatriots!!!!!!

we did it!!!!!!

CBC e-mail!!!! Woohoo!!! Hope the packet comes today!!! 😀

congrats, i got the cbc email too....did anyone get the actual email from certiphi yet?

I received the big packet in mail today morning at 11 and drove down to UIC to turn it in..

Good job! That's how it should be done! I'm Proctodoc btw... good to meet you harsh!

Anybody know when the next adcom meeting is, or with what frequency they tend to meet? Thanks!

Has anyone found out from the office the process of "appealing" the placement decisions? I'm not appealing to be moved to Chicago so hopefully I'll have some luck!

If any of you who were planning on appealing to be placed in Chicago have talked with the office, what did they say the process was?
Thanks!

I take it you mean you're about to appeal? They basically said that it's based on need, not first come first serve, and they only review your appeal after May 15th (last day anyone can hold multiple seats). I didn't ask how many are usually successful in getting transferred or what a good reason was, but from previous years' threads, good reasons to petition include having a spouse or children in Chicago, having some medical condition where you need to stay in Chicago, having to care for someone with a medical condition in Chicago, etc. I'm sure not all of us will have such strong reasons as that and I'm sure a lot of us regular folks who just really want to stay in the city will get transferred. I'm going to petition myself...

I'm actually going to petition to stay in Urbana for four years, so I won't be competing with Chicagoans for spots 🙂 I hope you are successful Protodoc!

Did they say to write something and send it via e-mail? Regular mail?

Oh I'm sorry I misunderstand you! I'm pretty sure you won't have a problem having that petition granted as people are moved out of Urbana to Chicago. And good question about snail versus email... I never asked but I'm guessing email cuz that's how one would communicate with UIC normally. I would email it cuz it's less likely to get lost or delayed.

For those of you who received the big packet in the mail today, do you live near Chicago?

For those previous west coast residents that have been accepted to University of Illinois, how long did it take the letter to get to you?

Congratulations to the rest who received the CBC today! What a relief!

Hey books! I received my big packet today. I live in the Chicago suburbs, about 30 minutes outside the city.

Again, congrats to all those who got accepted. I hope to meet some of you sometime =)

How did you guys rank Peoria, Urbana, and Rockford for the UPR Clinical sites in the Site Preference Card? I'm not really sure how they compare to each other. I think Rockford is the next biggest city after Chicago, but I heard it has a lot of crime. And Urbana is pretty small, isn't it? I guess MD students probably learn with the MSP students there? And I have no idea about Peoria's curriculum. Are they all focused on rural medicine?

Yep, Rockford is the next biggest city after Chicago. I don't have much idea about its crime rate.
Urbana is smaller compared to the others, but it's usually paired with Champaign (thus Urbana-Champaign), so together - the area is a bit larger. I do know the surrounding areas are growing. I would say Urbana-Champaign is comparable to some of Chicago's suburbs.

From what I gathered, Rockford has a special curriculum for those interested that focuses on rural medicine (it's called the Rural Medical Education Program). I believe it is this campus that focuses on rural medicine.

As you mentioned, Chambana (Urbana + Champaign) has the Medical Scholars Program.

Chicago has the special curriculum titled Urban Medicine.

I'm not sure about Peoria. I think I heard this campus gave more emphasis on primary care such as internal medicine. Not sure thou. Anyone else know?

=( I waited 2 hours outside in my car for the mailman. No mail was deliver to my house today. Another day of waiting tmw...and I live 5 minutes from UIC. sigh...

you're kidding! it's soooooooooo cold out! btw, if you're worried that it won't fit into a smaller mailbox (like I was), the packet isn't that big and it can be folded. CONGRATS on the acceptance!!! 🙂

Hey anyone know what the hours are for the admissions office over the holiday. Are they open today? When do they open up after Christmas?

Question for all of you. If we attend the Rockford, Urbana or Peoria campus what does our diploma/transcript say? Are we still technically students of the University of Illinois Chicago medical school?

Only 100 bucks! And don't worry, if you got the CBC you can feel free to tell people you're going to be a doctor! Hip-hip!

O God no I was not sitting outside in the freezing. Sorry for the ambiguity, I was in my car the entire time. Just preparing myself in case I do get the big package so I can turn in my deposit and preference card. I don't think I'm gonna get any mail today either. Damn snow! Haha I can't stop ranting.
