Snail mail it. Do NOT e-mail a petition letter. And how I know is irrelevant; believe, though, that it's on good authority.
So, I am in the same boat as many fellow SGNs; a decision was made 2.19; I have a BLANK additional correspondence (no date next to box); but I did get an email from AMCAS about the background check.
Unlike the email sent out to UIC applicants who got in during the early cycle, it does not explictly say I'm accepted... but why else would they send me a request for a background check. Then again, my email does not have any links to the background check site; it just says to wait for another email.
So, bottom line:
1. Has anyone gotten a BIG letter/package in the mail yet?
2. Does anyone have a date next to their additional correspondance?
Thanks! 🙂

so i am still hoping for an interview here, and i thought that my status changed to "applicant in process" last night. but now its on "application" again...did i really just dream that???
So Im in??? I got the final dec 2/19( w/ add correspondence no date) package today, never received the AMCAS CBC e-mail, and I double checked to make sure AMCAS had the right e-mail. Very Happy 🙂
You're probably not just dreaming it.. from past posts it looks like if you go back to "application" from "applicant", you have been passed up for now and will be re-reviewed.
UIC called to offer me an interview yesterday; I got the impression that it was their last available interview date.
I guess more slots should open up when/if people withdraw from their interviews.
thats interesting and somewhat depressing for me. just a question: when was your application complete?
My top preference is Chicago, but if I do not get it... how likely is an appeal able to help me out? Does it work?
zipmedic, if they approve your site appeal, how would they let you know? snail mail, email or phone?
and thanks, you've been extremely helpful to all of us in this thread.
Sorry to break the rhythm here but can anyone tell me if UIC is still inviting folks to interviews?😱
tks,
bg
I just called the admissions office and they said that the last interview date is April 20th
I was accepted to U. of Arizona today which has been my top choice as an Arizona resident. So, a spot in the Urbana-Rockford track is going to open up as soon as I inform them that I won't be attending. I'll probably call or send a letter in the next week, I just wanted to post in this thread to let you know that you have a little bit more of a chance now 😉

Edit: See below, apparently it wasn't their last interview date.
I got a call from the admissions office at UIC yesterday, but I wasn't at home! They called my permanent home number and I'm at school, so I just found out this morning. Now I have to wait until Monday to call them. Oh, the anxiety! I'm really hoping they called to schedule an interview. I can't imagine them calling to tell me that I'm rejected. I'm praying to have an interview in the very near future.
definitely sounds like an interview. i know you've been waiting on them for a long time, so congratulations.
edit: also, does this mean that the "status check" page is useless now?

Evidently, the admissions office called on Wed., not Friday. I can't believe I didn't get the message until today. I also missed a call on Wed. from a school in New York. I don't understand why these schools are not calling my preferred number! So, if anyone is still waiting on schools to contact them, maybe you should check to see if they've called any of your other contact numbers.

Congrats - that would be the best day of my life if I got two phone calls for med school interviews.
For the two of you that got invites last week, for what day did you schedule interviews? I see Jemmitas has brought me some great info, and I'm just trying to guess how many more rounds of phone-calls will be made.

March 31.
I didn't find out they called until yesterday, so I have to call admissions first thing in the morning.
About to submit my petition letter now... should I address the Admissons Committee or Dr. Jorge Girotti?
sweet. so hopefully that means there's a few more weeks to get an invite.
right, i knew that. sorry.
When I called last week they said to address it to the committee.
Luckily an interview opened up in Chicago for March 16th (they called a few hours after I booked the interview in Peoria), so if anyone is trying to interview a little sooner, the March 9th slot in Peoria should be open.
Me: "Hey, I heard on SDN that you an opening for an interview in Peoria on March 9 just opened up. Could I get that slot?"
Secretary (assuming I already got invited): "Sure, I'll reserve it for you. Anything else I can help you with?"
Me: "No...that's enough. Thanks."

question: what was the lowest overall and science gpa that anyone knows about that has been accepted to uic?
Well, it was gone by the time I called this morning. 🙂
How did you get them to call you back about the Chicago opening?
