Interviews from this point onward (and likely some of the latter March interviews) are just about 100% going to be for waitlist positions. While UIC does not formally create its waitlist until May-ish, that doesn't mean they won't interview people for it. I know this is difficult news for many of you to hear, but it is currently very late in the cycle. While there may be a few acceptances still to trickle out of the Admissions Office, they will be few and far between.

Do not -- I repeat -- do not send more letters to or call Admissions if you have already done so before. You won't get any extra attention, you won't get yourself an interview, you won't knock your file into the "acceptance" pile by making the phone ring. Hold out hope by all means, but we're rapidly approaching the point where the office will shift from admitting new students to processing and preparing for orientation.

Good luck to those accepted and those still in limbo.

I believe I speak for many people here... FML.

Dear 2009 Medical School Applicant:

The Committee on Admissions of the UIC College of Medicine reviewed your
application earlier this month. We wish to advise you that no final
decision has been reached on your application, but that you are still under
consideration.

Please note that the Committee reserves the right to withhold all final
decisions until June 1st. You will receive another email later in the year
to update you of your status in the process.

We ask that you notify us of mailing address or phone number changes so we
may communicate promptly with you.

I guess they did make it to the 3-20 batch.

Thanks for everyone who helped give me info on this thread! My wife and I will be withdrawing our acceptances (2 spots opening up!) and heading off to USC Keck School of Medicine. Good luck, all! 😀

I don't mean to dig too deeply here, but does anyone know of anyone getting ***pre-interview rejected*** at UIC yet this cycle?:boom:

I personally am hoping to be one of the April or May interviews--waitlist or not!

I know that some schools simply wait until the **very end** of the cycle to let yet-to-interview folks know about their decision.

There's always hopin'!:xf:

Any word on this'd be helpful.

Cheerio & thank you.

i know of a few of my friends were pre interview rejected and post interview rejected.

you have to make a certain mcat score (obviously) and you have to behave like a human being during your interview.

those are the things i noticed about my friends that were rejected thus far.

my current status is blank.
most ambiguous thing ever .... and so at the risk of being annoying, i called the office and the lady told me just to wait for correspondence.
if they want to reject me i just with they'd make it blatant and quick!

"A final decision was made on your application on 03-27-09. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."

So does anyone know if it's possible to get this message AFTER interviewing and be rejected? As it says, I got this on 3/27 and have yet to get a Criminal Background Check email or anything in the mail (though I know that will take time). Does anyone know what they post if you get rejected flat out (with or without interview)?

Every time people call the office for something they can easily wait a day or two for delays the processing of everyone's "correspondence," be it good or bad.

It's possible at this point, yes. It's also possible it's an admit. They post the same thing when rejected with or without interview. Good luck.

CBC can take up to 2 wks, apparently, technically speaking. The longest I've seen for this thread happens to be about 1 week.

I interviewed on 3/11 and I just checked my status today. It says a decision has been made on 3/30 and I don't see an additional corr. tab in the corner... I haven't read any posts where ppl said they didn't have the tab... is this a really bad sign?... does it ever show up later or should I be fearing the worst?
Originally after reading the posts and then seeing that "a decision had been made" I was really excited, but now I'm freaking out....

Can any one comment on this?.... good or bad just please let me know
Thanks!

I know it's hard to calm the nerves, but I think you're really just going to have to wait a few days on this one. If you read a few posts above, zipmedic says it can take a few days for the additional corres. to appear with a date. As for me, I got the "Final decision was made" on a Thursday and the additional corres. had a date pop up on Monday after the weekend. That's a good 4 days, so seeing that you had a "Final decision was made" on 3/30, you might need to just wait a few days to see what happens. Good luck!

Where is everyone checking their status at? Is there a website that I am unaware of?

does anyone know if owning property in Illinois and paying property taxes would make you qualify as an illinois state resident?

Thank you. I never received an email with this link or a password. I haven't heard anything from this school (but they did cash my check so I know they received my secondary). Is it weird to have a pre-interview status that still says "Applicant in Process"?

The meanings of the various statuses are discussed earlier in the forum... but I suppose it doesn't hurt to provide a comprehensive summary of them here...

START

A. "Application Not Complete"

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A Grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month), 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto Q.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. The email won't be sent again though. Go back to F.
Q. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = What date is it --> Goto T.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: Getting here is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.
T. There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before April = You are (very likely) accepted --> Goto Z.
2. On or After April = You might be accepted, but more likely you are on a waitlist --> Goto Z or W.
W. "Waitlisted ..." = Waitlisted :xf: (Kind of obvious what this means) The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance... since you likely already got it while getting on the waitlist. If you get off the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection 🙁 ... Wait for "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance 😀 ... Wait for "Thick Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

FINISH

The waitlist part I'm somewhat hazy about. Hope that helps though!

Someone should copy and paste that into next year's thread when it gets put up! Good job!

wow... that should save a lott of space on next year's thread ! perfect !

has anyone who received the most recent batch of status changes (~3/26-present) gotten a CBC email ?

So I know that everyone has asked this a zillion times but I might be having a mild heart attack and I want someone to answer it again 😛

So I got the notification that they made a decision on my application and just got emailed the CBC...but no letter. Whats that mean?!?!?!

Should I be like this 😀 or.....this:scared:

Yeah I got a status change on 3/27 and just got a CBC email

my status is still blank (has been for about a week now), and just got the CBC email today

I got the CBC email a couple hours ago. It took 3 business days from the status change... so nothing out of the ordinary. I hate celebrating prematurely... so I'm still going to wait this one out. 😛

Congrats to everyone though.

hey you guys, relax. if you got the cbc, you're in. this comes directly from the amcas website:

the AAMC has initiated an AMCAS-facilitated national background check service, through which Certiphi Screening, Inc. (a Vertical Screen® Company) will procure a national background report on applicants at the point of acceptance. In addition, beginning in May of each year, a national background report will be procured for a subset of applicants who are on a participating school's alternate list.

so congrats! now you just have to worry about which campus they assign you. (there's always something else, right?)

You really are a great guy.

Still trying not to get my hopes up in case I happen to be the one fluke... but that IS really nice to hear =)

Naw, man. You're in. To all that got the CBC, it's a pretty clear shot that you're gonna get your thick packet.

Congrats!

just checked the mail, no big packet, but did receive a letter that began:

"Please join us for the Second Look program .... We hope that now that you know of your acceptance to our college, you will take this opportunity etc."

is this supposed take place of an acceptance letter? if so, i must say, this was very anti-climactic

I just called for a status check and they told me that I won't be getting an interview and my letter should be coming soon 🙁 good luck to those of you that'll be attending UIC this fall and to those who are still waiting.

that sucks. i know how much you have been wanting a shot at uic, and i definitely think you deserve it. don't let this get you down, though, you'll make it if you keep trying.

on a similar note, i just called for an update, expecting to get the same news, but was actually told that my application will go to one more review! (what is it about me that schools can't make a decision?). the woman i spoke with told me that she expects this last review to be made near the end of this month, so for those of you still waiting on an interview here, don't give up hope quite yet. i will be sending them an update tonight.

How will you send the update? Email? I tried to send one awhile ago through email and I never got an acknowledgment, maybe I had the wrong address?

Is the CBC email the email from AMCAS saying:

As you were notified in the AMCAS application, and in an email upon submission of your AMCAS application, you have applied to at least one medical school that is participating in an AMCAS-facilitated national background check service.

I haven't gotten the actual email from Certiphi screening. Have you all?

I look forward to seeing some of those accepted at Second Look Day. See if you can figure out who I am. 😉

unfortunately, i think they are a school that doesn't give you notice when they update your file. im just gonna send them a letter attached to an e-mail and assume it gets taken care of.

what is your online status?

make sure you call to confirm that the update letter/e-mail has been received and placed in your file. when i sent mine via e-mail to a bunch of schools, i had to re-send about half of them as they claimed they never received it! 😕

Linda told me big packets were sent out today, and to expect them either Friday or Saturday

is Second Look day a waste of time?

is Second Look day a waste of time?

There's another tour [slightly different than the interview one, depending on your guide] and a med student panel that can answer every possible question you can think of. It's a nice little day to schmooze with your future classmates.

Nope not yet, just the CBC email
