I received the UMed interview invite on April 7th and the e-mail from admissions on April 9th. I am tempted to inquire about my site placement, but I don't want to be a nuisance. (Hence, why I am posting on SDN)

Hey Zipmedic (or anyone else who would know),

Do you know if the school sends you a response to your campus appeal whether or not it's approved? I mean, obviously they'll notify those they approve but do they also tell the rest no? Also, since May 15 is the magic day for stuff to begin happening, when are responses to be expected...end of May, beginning of June, end of June (hopefully not this late...) I just ask to know when to begin housing planning.

Thanks for the help!

They may tell everyone no, but prolly not right away. There's going to be a lull between May 15th and when they know who's since decided NOT to come to U of I.

Hal and little bus -- believe what you want. I'm tired of explaining. Admissions knows everything.

Everyone -- stop calling the admissions office all the time. Everything will be revealed in due course.

Hey guys, I had a question. What email do you use to withdraw your acceptance? I've tried emailing their [email protected] but I haven't gotten a response or any confirmation.

Thanks 🙂

Does anyone know whether the UIC College of Medicine FAFSA school code is the same as that of UIC?

Do a search of that in this thread (or in the one in the allopathic forum). It was previously asked/answered.

Do I get props for honesty? maybe? No? 😳

You can always try searching the UIC financial aid website. I believe the FASFA number for the med school is the same as the undergrad.

only 1 week of interviews left (last day April 20)...something tells me an invite at this point is unlikely 🙁

Maybe I could send an "In the area" e-mail, then fly to Chicago and cross my fingers 😉

Yep. I know it sucks.

No reason not to try so long as it's just an e-mail. Unless you live in the area, in which case "I'm going to be around" just looks sad.

nope, i live far far away...what should such an e-mail say?

In case anyone's wondering, I inquired about the attire for the UMed interviews on 2nd Look Day--since the FAQs for the day indicate casual attire but an interview usually denotes something a bit more formal. The response I got back was that casual attire for the interview is fine.

Just out of curiousity, how are all of us out-of staters planning on managing this $84,000 budget we have to come up with for this upcoming year? That is aLOT of money.

Better cross your fingers and hope everything works out :xf:

Oh, the loans.....

Hi guys,

I just got into a cheaper school closer to home... Thanks for being neurotic with me!!!!

I'm just about ready to go into the admissions office with a guitar and a song, and sing why they should take me off the continue to be reviewed list. 5 months of of sitting around hoping, wishing pleading with them via email- and letters. theres nothing in the world i want more than to get in to this school... even with another acceptance!

They'll politely thank you for the song while someone in their office calls the police. 😉

sillyrussian, you are not alone.

i just found out that my app was being reviewed by someone since february and that they just finished. he told me that i would finally be reviewed at this months meeting.

my advice to you would be to try and find out who is reviewing your app. maybe ask if you can be reviewed on conditional acceptance or something.

i also know of several people who are not going to uic but holding acceptances...its not over until you get the letter.

anyone have any luck with an in the area e-mail? i just sent one recently...:xf:

My status changed from "Applicant in Process" to "Application in Process" today. What does this mean so late in the game? Nothing good, right?

It means the Committee has your file. That's all it means.

A few questions:

1. Is this the default (prior to site placement) or have I been in Chicago?

Current Program
Doctor of Medicine
Level: Professional - Chicago
Program: MD:Medicine - Chicago -UIC
Admit Term: Fall 2009 - Chicago
Admit Type: Regular Admission
Catalog Term: Fall 2009 - Chicago
College: Coll Medicine at Chicago - CS
Campus: Chicago
Major and Department: Medicine - Chicago, Administration

2. Related to that, how long does it typically take for a site placement decision to be made? They received my card on Monday of this week (4/13) so I'd be surprised if they have already made a decision. The reason I ask is related to housing - my friend is going to be living in Chicago and he needs to know relatively soon whether I want to live with him.

Thanks for any help!

Looks good. Wait for a letter before you celebrate.

It's the default message. I have the exact same information as my status, but I got my letter this week saying I am in the Urbana/Rockford track. I think it changes eventually to your actual one, but the immediate status is definitely NOT reflective of your site placement.

Just a heads up, I am accepted to U of I but am on 3 other waitlists. If I get off any of these I will be withdrawing, so that is yet another seat that may open up. Good luck to those of you who are still waiting to hear!

DrJD - which campus were you assigned to?

I was assigned to the Rockford track. (Which was weird because I was accepted in November) 😱 First hand proof that they weren't filling the campuses on a "first come, first serve" basis. No complaints as I'm actually glad that I got placed there. However, sorry to say that if I do withdraw I won't be opening up a spot at the Chicago campus...

Does anybody know the tuition rates after the M1 year? I know based upon my award letter how much my first year will run me, but does anyone (maybe Zip?) know how expensive years 2-4 are? Thanks.

anyone know when the next admission committee meeting is?

i just love waiting 😍

anyone retaking the mcat and getting ready for another round of amcas?

So correct me if i'm wrong, for years M2-M4, there is an additional $9344.00 for summer tuition (for instate)? So total tuition for those years would be roughly $36,000/year?

Zip, if you could help me out. What do students do during those summers? Are there classes, rotations?

Yes, you have to pay more M2 & M3 years because you attend school during the summer as well.

Zip, if you could help me out. What do students do during those summers? Are there classes, rotations?

Don't think of the additional cost of M2 year as "summer school." After you finish M2 classes, you take 4-6 weeks and study for Step I. M3 rotations start immediately after the end of M2. The way schools set up their academic calendars goes Fall -> Spring -> Summer. Technically, while you've begun M3 rotations, it's at the end of M2 year. Hence, M2 and M3 have the added summer tuition/fee/insurance expenses that M1 and M4 do not.

Has anybody yet received a confirmation of the time/place for UMed interviews? Any idea when we should find out?

nope, no idea - I figure I'll try to give them a call on Monday if I've not heard anything

another question for current students - I know a car is needed on the UPR track (to which I'm currently assigned), but is it possible to live without a car on the Chicago campus? - just trying to see if I can cut out the cost of buying a car if I get UMed

Zip,
I got a question. Besides an petition letter is there any other way for me to be placed on the Chicago campus over the Urbana/Peoria track. Any key points I should include in my letter, and generally how long should it be?

Thanks

The only other way is to get admitted to the UMed program, but applications were already due. Make the petition a page or less.
