they didnt ask about healthcare at all.
one interviewer asked about a couple of the activities on my amcas. the other two just picked one activity (neither were medicine related!!) that they were personally interested in, and we just had a conversation about that.

So did they just focus on AMCAS activities for the entire interview, or were there other topics that were touched on?

Sorry to grill you with questions. 😛

Disregard...meant to post in MSU thread.

Man, I've been complete since mid-July and I've heard *nothing* from Michigan. No pre-interview hold or anything at all...I've just been "Under Review" for the whole time. This whole process seems mysterious to me. What exactly is the difference between being on hold and having been under review for several months? I'm guessing that my application has probably at least been looked at by *somebody* by this time.

hey guys who received invites, can u guys help me figure out what online site to use for booking flights? also, the airport i want is DTW right. whats some hotels in walking distance to the admissions place, also? are you guys picking weekends with home games or away games for football? going to a game while up there would be cool but seems impossible to get a ticket, so it might suck going there when the town is packed

thanks and any info would be great. there are a bazillion airline websites out there.

I interviewed today.

Yes, you want DTW. I stayed with a student host - so much fun!

Oh, and I left feedback on the interview feedback page if anyone wants to read about it.

Same problem (well, except it says "evaluations/complete" or something, and it hasn't changed since July)...please, someone who knows, what's going on here? I'm getting so antsy! Come ONNN, Michigan! Has anyone who wasn't an auto-interview gotten one yet?

Side note to Shemarty - I feel honored that we were in the same city at the same time today - and glad to know you had a good time here. Ann Arbor is awesome. I feel like I know you, even though I've never talked to or messaged you, simply due to your diligence/ubiquity on this website. Best of luck to you!

Thanks doctorntrainin! I really liked Ann Arbor 🙂 I went to the Michael Moore talk on Thursday night, though I didn't stay for the movie because a bunch of applicants and their M1 student hosts went out to Pizza House, courtesy of the Admissions office! I enjoyed my 3 days here a lot 😀

I hope you get an invite from Michigan soon!

hey shemarty, wheres this interview feedback page? also, do we find out about student hosts after confirming a date? im debating b/w a home game wkd vs away game weekend. what do u recommend? if i dont get a host, the hotel costs during a home game weekend will be double i think

I can't say whether this is right or not, but my (admittedly optimistic) theory is that our files have passed an initial review and we're now in the line-up for a possible interview. If the Committee hadn't had any interest, we probably would have gotten the hold notice that a lot of people did back in August. Given that we were complete around the same time they were, I highly doubt that our applications haven't even been looked at yet. So maybe we're not good enough to get an interview early on, but we're good enough to get one later? Here's hoping! 🙂

I highly recommend staying w/ a student, but it's a personal preference...

Definitely stay on a weekend with a home game if you can - it's an experience in and of itself. Of course that means getting a hotel will be nearly impossible, but that's why you sign up for a student host. Just be friendly and courteous and they'll show you a great time.

On a side note, even if you end up going on a weekend without a home game, there are always things to do (especially with the undergrads...). Just make sure you can get back to the airport when you're done since the Ann Arbor MTA doesn't run every route on the weekends and you might need to take a cab to get on the Michigan Flyer shuttle.

Hi, I've been stalking for a while and decided to come out. 🙂
I got a huge shock today when I got an automatic interview from Michigan this late in the game! I actually thought I was in bad shape cause I still haven't turned in the secondary. Has this happened to anyone else? Not that I'm complaining. I am super happy, this is my first interview (I am a little late on a lot of secondaries :scared:).
Another thing is, when I first went to sign up Oct. 24th and Nov. 7th were available, but an hour later Oct. 24th was gone. Does two weeks later make a big difference? I know that acceptances start coming out Oct. 15th.
Good luck to all you September interviewees!

Two weeks shouldn't make a huge difference. Congrats on your interview!

we talked a bit about a few topics, and the conversation generally drifted off in a random direction. we talked a bit about ann arbor as well =)

hey congrats! 👍 ..i believe they interview through march, so yea, nov. 7th is just fine-- i actually interviewed on nov. 9th last yr 😀.. and no worries about your secondary not being in.. get it in before your interview date and you're good.. abt the interview, i felt they were trying to elicit more about your personality rather than figure out how much you know about healthcare issues and what not.. hey, and since you received an interview, im sure you're an awesome candidate.. so yea, just relax and be yourself.. gluck!

Thanks Carlin and radiohead! I hope you guys are enjoying Michigan. I'm originally from Ann Arbor, so it'll be cool to go back!

congrats on your interview! i got the auto-invite this week too.
see you on 11/7! 🙂

hmm so i've been complete since 9/10 and i still haven't heard a peep from mich... is it normal to wait this long or does it mean it's not looking to good?

I've been under review since July 15, so it could definitely be a long wait. 🙂

It's better to be under review for a long time then to get a rejection 😉 Probably means they are considering you?

lol, I sure hope so! I hope they're giving me a looooooot of consideration, considering how long I've been waiting! 😉

I'm sorry you have to wait! I know it sucks...maybe it's worth it to give them a call? It has been almost 3 months!

I've been "under review" for about that amount of time as well, I was complete there VERY early on and still nothing... but hey, I'll take a long time to review over a rejection any day! If you do call let us know what they say!

Ohh wow, you too? My wait only lasted a month and a half (throughout which I complained 😛). DrJD, I'd really call if I were you. A 3 month wait seems like a long time for a school that has been sending out decisions for a while now.

Yea, considering my skewed application I was trying to give them time to deliberate, lol Maybe I will call tomorrow and see what they say... 🙂

Actually, UMich doesn't send out post-secondary rejections until it's way obvious that you've been rejected by looking at the interview counter on their website.

Yeah, but a lot of people have already been placed on hold.

And some have been rejected (if I remember correctly)

Oh, really? That's interesting, heh! I currently theorize that they consider me good enough to interview if they get around to it. 🙂 Looking through mdapplicants profiles, it seems like some people have waited all the way until November until they were invited for an interview, so I'm not going to give up hope yet!

I have called before, by the way, and I was told that they could hold on to my application all the way until December. I just hope the wait isn't that long!

Yeah, I've been under review since 8/20. This school is probably my top choice (can't say 100% for sure until I get to actually interview there, but it's my top state school and I have ties to the Ann Arbor area) and I would like to hear something from them soon.

400/750 interview slots have already been offered. Makes me nervous.

It's not over until it's over. 🙂 Remember, a lot of those slots were given automatically, so they really haven't invited all that many people out through the review process yet.

um does that mean only 350 spots remain for interviews?? that seems like it'd be impossible to get one at this rate lol...

Is anyone on here going to be participating in the chat tonight? I'm actually pretty excited about it. It's going to be nice to get some questions answered in real time from people who have a considerable say in the application process. The last two weeks have been pretty uneventful for me application-wise so it's nice to have something to break up the dead air.

According to last years chat, about 200 interviews are given automatically, and from those about 75 acceptances.

200/750 is a huge chunk, if you ask me.

Also, finally got my good news today, after three months of waiting. :>

haha congratulations!!! I'm glad it turned out to be good news! 🙂

This is a good sign for everyone waiting out there.

Thanks 😀 I almost passed out when I saw the email! When I called the admissions office earlier this week, the lady told me I could end up being under review until January, so I was preparing myself for a loooong haul. 😵

Haha well I'm glad! It's time to change your mdapps 👍

The Umich interview is probably the most enjoyable, relaxing, chill experience ever. They're all so nice there, it's amazing. Not only will you not be nervous interviewing there, I think you'll actually have some fun

I totally agree! We went out for pizza w/ 1st years and other applicants the night before the interview. The Admissions Office pays for it by giving the student hosts gift cards! 😀

At the chat last night, I think they said that this year about 95 acceptances went out from the auto-invite folks.

Wow, if that's true, that's a huge number...almost makes me feel slightly inadequate. But that's good news for a lot of folks. I hope they put up the transcript from last night's chat soon, I'd like to see what they had to say.

Yeah they said they were offering about 90 out of their 365 acceptances last night. They also said that 365 number did not include people taken off of the waitlist.

🙁🙁🙁 waitlist 🙁🙁🙁
