I interviewed on 10/19. and I have far below average stats than most of ppl here.

How da heck did apps with 3.9 and 36+ get rejected???

This has been discussed a few times. It has to do with the fact that people with such high numbers will most likely get accepted to other top-tier schools. And since BU is one of the most applied to med schools in the nation, they can't use up all their interview slots for 3.8+/40+ applicants.

That's the story anyway... seems to make sense.

I think I've read it somewhere in this thread but.. is it true that if you interviewed very early (say the very first day of interviewing dates) then over 90% of those people are accepted?

i really hope this is true! and also that they get accepted early 😀

i love love love BU and would jump for joy if i get the accepted call this jan :xf::luck:

BU just sent me an email about my contact information? I interviewed October 16th...did anyone else get this?

haha I came on here to ask the same question. I just got the same email. Maybe it's just an automated check... or maybe... I should start looking for apartments in Boston!

lol. I interviewed 10/7. But didn't get it.. I gotta check last year's thread and see if people who received this contact info confirmation e-mail was followed by acceptance calls.

I got the email and I haven't even been interviewed....complete since 9/1

got it too, interviewed early november.

😴

Do Bu do rejections by snail mail in addition to email?

I'm wondering the same thing! Anyone out there know how they send rejections out? I was complete late september, and just got that contact e-mail. I'm OOS/haven't been invited to interview.

from last years thread.. apparently they sent out the contact e-mail several times before any decisions were sent out:

I really hope I don't get that annoying email 60+ times like people did last year. Once is enough.

I think if an applicant's contact info changes, it should be the responsibility of the applicant to inform schools, and no prompt should be needed from the school itself. These emails just annoy the 98% of applicants who haven't moved or gotten a new phone # in the past 6 months.

I bet admissions people come here to this thread and have a jolly laugh over the amount of hysteria that they have kicked up

contact email here too. what is that all about?

That was obviously a glitch though.

I just got the contact e-mail by the way.

when you think about it, looking through posts or posting threads on this forum all paranoid does not help us getting into med school in anyway. hm

it's all just a coping mechanism. this year-long application process isn't easy, so its nice to have others to bounce thoughts off of. usually family and friends only sympathize without fully understanding just how difficult it actually is. so no, it doesn't help our chances of getting in, but it is fun.

Has Dean Witzburg replied to anyone who wrote a letter to him pre-interview? Or to plead your case when it comes to any grade deficiencies?

got the contact email a couple of hours ago and just got invited to an interview! YAY!

oh and complete 10/27

Congrats!! I got the contact info today without having had an interview too.

Congrats as well! Hoping for some good news myself.

I got the contact email this morning as well, and I have been complete since 10/20! Hopefully I haven't been skipped over.

I take comfort knowing that the contact email was a mass email, and not a 'ooh your rejection letter got returned, will you give us your address again?' situation. haha.

but i know several people at BU and I think Dean Witzburg made this a point of his... very few people get accepted in January. Just keep that in mind and maybe cross your fingers for another school in the interim

take it easy

well you'd have to be a rock star

the leg-up for people who interview early is that you're reviewed twice.

This is a big leg up. Rumor has it that they fill a small percentage of the class with January acceptances (10-15%). But those who are deferred in January have a good chance in March (??%).

So if you are deferred, don't lose hope.

I guess they've already invited all the September completes that they care to invite and are at end-of-October now.

I'm a little sad that my alma matter doesn't want to interview me. But I haven't been rejected either so I don't know what that means.

nah, people get skipped over and re-reviewed. you're not done until you've been rejected.

also, it's alma mater.

Complete mid-September. No invite, no rejection.

If I remember correctly, last year I got rejected by email saying they couldn't offer an interview. I don't remember for sure though. I got the opposite email this year though 🙂
Now all I gotta do is rock my interview.

Apparently BU didn't do a good job teaching me how to spell. Hopefully their med school does a better job.

haha. but seriously-- BU came back and re-reviewed me and many others. they are not shy about handing out rejections, so if you haven't gotten one, assume you're still in the game!

Did you make significant changes to your app from last year? Re-wrote the primary essay? Hve been told that schools dont look favorably upon reapplicants ... even if they have good gpa and mcat and stuff.

Well I was in BU's MAMS program. So essentially I got a masters, got good grades in it, and did research. But yea, I also redid my Personal Statement and redid a few of the activities descriptions.

Never heard that schools don't like reapplicants though. In fact, I've been told the opposite. I've heard that they look favorably upon people who they've rejected and have significantly improved their application. Don't take that as fact though, it's just what I've heard.

I got an interview invite for January, anyone know how many people they accept and have already accepted? Also, how often do they send out acceptances?

They don't have rolling admissions, they have 2 batches of acceptances, one in early Jan and one in March. They interview about 55-60% of people in 1st semester (about 600) and accept around 60-75 at that time...they either reject rest or defer to March decision. They interview about 400 in 2nd semester and accept the rest of the class in March.

actually, dean witzburg specifically said that 125 would be accepted first round and 225 would be accepted 2nd round, totaling to the 350 acceptances expected

in my interview email, i got this:

"We would appreciate receiving a copy of your undergraduate transcript, as well as a record of any additional academic work you have completed. It is not necessary that we receive these documents prior to your interview; you may upload this material at https://myapplication.bumc.bu.edu/2010/. If you prefer, you may bring the material with you and leave it with any member of our staff on the day of your campus visit."

....i am out of school. graduated this past May....so doesnt the school already have my complete transcript/grades courtesy of the AMCAS application? Do I still need to bring or upload another transcript even if nothing has changed since i submitted my AMCAS (since i'm not in school)?

Yes you do. AMCAS doesn't send the official transcripts. If you go on the AMCAS website and print your app, that's the format they receive your grades. BU wants the original copy from your home institution (or other places you've studied). You can bring it on interview day. There's a bin in the office to drop it off in.

oh ok. thanks!

and if i wanted to upload it an official transcript, i'm guessing i would need to scan it and then upload it to the website. correct?
