I got my last complete email today from here! w00t

Do you remember when you submitted? Been waiting since August!

Submitted 8/26. Complete 10/6.

Columbia-Bassett interview invite today! I'm so excited!

Columbia-Bassett interview invite today! I'm so excited!

give us some details - how is the nyc/cooperstown thing being handled...when are you scheduled?

My secondary was submitted 7/21 and complete 8/24. The interview is scheduled for early November.

As far as NYC/Cooperstown goes, the admissions office was extremely helpful. I'm from the west, and so they have really gone out of their way to help me find transportation. They told me to fly into Albany (1.5 hours away) and that they would arrange transportation and then put me up in the Inn at Cooperstown. The next day, they would schedule transportation for the 4 hour drive from Cooperstown to NYC.

Honestly, I am ecstatic to check this program out. This was the first specialty program that really caught my attention and I can't wait to see it!

Excellent!

I agree, this program really caught my eye. Don't think I would have applied to Columbia alone, although it is a great school...but this program sounds like a real innovative approach.

Yeah, we are doing the play into the woods. I'm the big bad wolf.

Do you guys have a bassist play who plays in your pit orchestra? If so, do you know what year they are/if they are a student?

I'm not sure. I seem to recall that they were looking for someone at the start of the year. I haven't met the pit yet.

Well tell them to let me in, and I'll gladly play for you guys!

Next time I have a fire side chat with Dean Frantz I'll pass your enthusiasm along .

(before I get emails I have no influence on the admissions process and can only pass on advice and what I hear from chatting with the admissions office)

Just curious, why is the columbia application turnaround time the slowest out of all schools. more than a month to 2 month.
Would it annoy the staff to inquire your secondary application status?

They're old fashioned and do paper applications rather than electronic tracking of everyone's app, which makes sense as to why it takes longer.

Interview invite! So happy 🙂

Complete 10/06, invite 10/09! Ballin'!

The email inviting you for an interview was kind of weird, it almost looked like spam.

Anyway, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere!

quick question:

which airport is best to fly into for columbia?

and about what time should I expect being done? is a 5:30PM flight impossible to catch?

I would probably recommend LaGuardia, but I took a cab when I interviewed.

A 5:30 flight is totally doable, just request a morning interview and you will be done by 2:00.

So does Columbia only interview on Wednesdays?

Oh. My. God. One month and not even a complete email?? What on earth is going on here? I don't like calling schools but this is seriously ridiculous.

Nope. I'm interviewing on a Thursday.

Cool thanks. The day I was given was a Wed., and the alternatives were also on Weds.

But after reading your post, I asked them for Thurs/Fri, and they offered me some dates.

So thanks a bunch.

You guys were great and I hope I end up at the same place as some of you.

I'm not sure if the guy from UGA will read this...but I'm sorry I missed you. I was looking around and thought if I grabbed coffee you'd be there when I got out and so I just missed you. Hope your cab ride back was MUCH shorter than the first.

To my two friends who were there at the crack of dawn with me for no good reason, you know who you are, you two made my day and I definitely want to know where you end up.

To everyone still waiting to interview...get to know your interview group. Since there aren't any info sessions besides the lunch and tour with students it could be a very long day if you aren't too social.

Good luck everyone!

I'd also like to add that you guys are welcome to explore if you get tired of sitting in the admissions office. The first years have classes right next to you if you wanted to sit in. The Hammer building (tall and straight building building that's kind of by itself on the other side of the street as the P&S building and about a block away from it) has public computers by the coffee shop and inside the glass room that you will see as you enter.

Your sticker and snazy clothing should get you in anywhere that doesn't require you to swipe an ID.

Just received an invite via email! Can't believe it. Complete on 9/9.

For those who have had an interview, please post feedback on the interview feedback page of SDN. The admissions office and the student admissions reps is looking into some options on how to change the Columbia interview experience and they would love to hear some fresh opinions.

Anyone have a problem of not being able to download/view the Photo Document?

How do we know that they received our photos in the mail? On Columbia's status page, there's nothing about 'photo received' or anything, right?

They send you an 'Application Complete' email when all your paper work has been processed which I am assuming includes the mail-in photo.

Secondary Submitted 9/12-ish, Complete email today, 10/22

Starting to wonder about something...I did the Bassett question, so by doing so, am I only under consideration for Bassett? If Bassett passes on me, could Columbia still offer an interview?

Starting to have mixed feelings about all of this...anybody know anything about it?

The app itself wasn't clear, and I read over the long deal-o, and it wasn't any clearer...

If you are not accepted to the Bassett program, you will still be considered for the regular Columbia MD program.

I feel like this Bassett thing is dragging out way too long - I have only seen one post about an invite on SDN...I feel like my app is sitting at the bottom of a well, and by the time they decide to pass on me, it will be really late in the cycle for the regular MD program...

Anybody heard any Bassett news recently?

Has anyone been accepted to this school yet?

😍
Secondary Sent: 8/17
Complete: 9/21
Interview Invite: 10/22

Good luck to everyone!

Bassett interviews start tomorrow for sure, though there might have been ones earlier that I didn't hear of. Don't sweat what part of the cycle it is, no one gets accepted here before March so you have plenty of time. The way it works is that Columbia approves your application and then sends it to Bassett. If they don't approve, assuming that you indeed are eligble for normal Columbia admissions (I don't know), you will already have gotten Columbia approval.
