Nevermind... I just got an email saying I'm complete now. Wow, that was fast.

just added creighton . . . it's the last school i'm gonna add, i'm at a round 20 now. seems like a good number.

how long does it take to get the secondary?

hey!!! long time no see. I spoke with Mr. Garland and you will definitely get an invite. He said they look for 5 things in an applicant.

sGPA>B+/3.3
MCAT with all sections greater than at least 9
and other activities.

Mary...I believe you might have all of that. Congrats! Unfortunately I will get rejected from here as he said my chances are slim this cycle.

garland is really cool! he came to talk to us at our school, its one of the reasons i applied here. Those are just the minimal things they want, like the floor limits. Its not as if u meet those reqs u get an interview. They are really big on activities, and service seeing as how thats their mission and of all the jesuit school, i think they see this as most important. Not a huge stat school as indicated by their 30 mcat average.

yeah...but for Marylennox.....she'll probably get one.

Mr. Garland said I have the other 3 but not the numbers. If my sGPA was around 3.3 then I'll defintiely get an interview. But...it's a rejection for me from this school.

r u sure about the numbers? i have lower than 9 in verbal do you think i should skip the secondary? 🙁 i just added this school too 🙁

I really think those are the bare minimum u need. I have all of those "requirements" and don't have an interview. I'm sure you need much more than that to get an interview.

And don't let this deter you from applying, OneMCATAway, I would apply. As long as you are somewhere around the ballpark of their MCAT/GPA, you are fine. Remember the MSAR shows medians for accepted students, not means for matriculants, so those numbers could possibly be inflated.

Definitely apply (unless you are wayyyy off from all of those criteria). I know people who have been interviewed in the past, and are interviewing this year, that do not meet all of those things (all OOS). Every school promotes a general guideline, but they wont live and die by it.

that is in general what they look for but its not some strict cut off. These stats are basically the same thing garland said to us when he came to talk to us at my school. But its not inflexible. Also for ANY school they would probably give u similar numbers. If you have <3.3 you are going to be in trouble at basically all US MD schools. If you have <9 in any section that does not bode well for you at any school. So dont let it deter you. Schools are not inflexible. I mean if your average mcat is 30...obviiously they are not only strictly going by numbers.

i was interviewed at Creighton last year (waitlisted then rejected) with these stats:
mcat: 29O (7PS 11VR 11BS)
ugrad gpa: s3.17, c3.37
grad gpa (included med school course) 3.71

my extracurriculars were by no means outstanding, but i believe very strongly in the jesuit ideals and i think that was reflected in my activities and essays

i had far worse stats than everyone else i interviewed with, but they picked me for a reason.....APPLY haha....i think i might give it one more shot this year too 😉

any interviews handed out lately? If so, were you complete after 8/11?

I'm not detering you not to apply. You should just to try. That is just what they're looking for in an applicant.

You got an interview with a 3.17 sGPA? He told me that my sGPA won't work for Creighton. I wouldn't be given an itnerview even though I have super activities. What is wrong with this pic? Is it b/c of my overall GPA as well???

Maybe because of his belief in Jesuit ideals and Post grad GPA? And yeah, everyone at Creighton is really nice.

trust me i was just as surprised as you!
even though they were short, my essays for Creighton were, I believe, the most sincere and well-written ones I submitted....I can only assume that my big improvement in grad school (the program was similar to an smp) got my application a second glance, and my essays are what got me the interview.....even though I didn't get in I hope that the fact that I got an interview gives some people a little hope, and make sure you all write some kick-a** essays!

Being aware of [FONT=PrimaSans BT,Verdana,sans-serif] "Completed applications are reviewed for interview purposes on a rolling basis," .was completing the app today too late for a good shot??!
Thanks 😀

thanks for the vote of confidence. they have yet to send me the secondary though, so they must be backed up by now. wish i would have applied earlier but i guess the mcat was worth waiting the extra 3 weeks for.

Recycling, don't give up yet, you never know. you applied early, which is good. i also believe that enthusiasm in this process is important . . . the fact that you're calling these schools and expressing interest is good, you know? just hang in there . . . i know it's hard when half of sdn is getting interviews by the end of august! i dont have any yet though 🙂

The first interviews start this week so maybe they are busy with that...i think classes just started too? Could be wrong about the classes though. Either way creighton looks far beyond numbers and at least of what i know about your app it certainly seems to have that unique/im interesting factor which never hurts. Good luck🙂.

Also good luck to the 1st interviews this friday and sat! some of you should pm me after haha im curious as to how it was like. Im going on 9/4 🙂, getting so excited i love creighton .

Bryson: Thanks!

Mary: With that score, it sure does look like it was worth waiting! haha congrats

Elijah: I hope you tear up that interview! :luck:

I'm still hanging in there. But I'm ready to be a reapplicant and do a SMP. It's depressing to see so many people getting invites except me...so far. That's why I don't get on here much anymore.

If it's any consolation, I don't have any interview invites either. I'm hoping it's because I didn't get verified until 7/17, but who knows. I'm still currently filling out secondaries ( I have 6 left, potentially).

An MS3 friend of mine got into.... I want to say 5 different schools, but his first interview invite wasn't until September. His stats are higher than both yours and mine, but still. Even with higher stats, he didn't get invited until later.

everyone always says this, but it's true- sdn does not paint a realistic picture of the average applicant's timeline. people getting interviews now applied early, have great stats, and maybe got lucky. but most schools are interviewing and accepting through winter and spring too. our turn will come. i am confident that my overall app is good enough to get in somewhere, but i have a feeling my gpa is going to keep me on the back burner at lots of schools at least for a little while. but seriously it's impossible not to get neurotic when spending so much time on sdn!!

that said, it doesnt hurt to apply to SMPs just in case. but don't get discouraged, it's only august!! i have friends who havent even taken their MCAT or submitted their AMCAS yet, and the very school i attend hasnt even given me a damn secondary yet. so i am trying to stay distracted (but obviously it isnt working lol)

lol i tell myself this too, but it still fails . I am very happy with at least one interview for now though..but seeing people with 7 or w/e im like seriously? I wasnt going to go the SMP route until maybe january or so

yea it's hard not to get stressed with these forums

you're totally from oregon! i'm in the same boat.
lol close CA, good luck at creighton i see thats the only one you got too 🙂. Maybe well both rock it and get accepted by oct...so no more stressing ahha. If only 🙂

haha that would be amazing. knowing me i'd still stress out about other schools though (way less than I am now though 🙂) Be sure to let us know how the interview goes.

👍👍👍 Thank you all. I will become a doctor one way or another. Even if it mean I have to become a reapplicant.

stupid question.....i apologize i am just always bad with "year of app vs. year of matriculation" issues.....in the secondary it asks for the year of previous app/year of previous alternate status.....i applied/was waitlisted last year, so do i put 2009 (even though we are in 2009 now).....i know really stupid but thanks in advance

ahh there is a big difference between 2000 characters (even including space) and 250 words, i wrote my answers paying attention to the character and even then i couldn't fit everything i want and now it doesn't let me save!! wth is it 250 then? did anyone experience this?!

It would be for the year you would matriculate. Meaning the 08/09 app cycle and 09 matriculation year. At least that's my understanding 🙂

On a different note... Who's interviewing this weekend? I'm going in Saturday :scared::scared::scared: I plan on attending the dinner that Friday evening... anyone else going?

Hey megafoofie - I will be there on Friday and I plan on staying for the dinner that night. I am excited but getting nervous for it! Hopefully all goes well for all of us and hopefully I will see you there.

So I have an interview at Creighton this Saturday. My schedule is busy all day with your typical interviewee things, but I have the night free. Anyone have any ideas on what to do in Omaha???

kick it w/ your host? unless they have a test or something.

"kick it w/ your host? unless they have a test or something."

Good plan...if only I had a host. I'm staying in a hotel. I booked a non-refundable room before I found out I could stay with a student...wa wa wa 🙁

When I interviewed there last year, there were a bunch of students who were in your position. Dont worry though, the students are very friendly. They will most likely invite you to hang out w/ them.

And...from what I remembered...bars stay open til 1 AM.

I was going to do this as well, but then decided shelling out the 50k for the 1 year SMP, plus the one year lost income isn't worth the wait, so I've decided to apply to DO schools as well, just to make sure I have a better chance of starting next year.

Although Creighton is up there on my list of top choice places, right below University of Colorado.

It was the 2009 application year. This year is the 2010 application year. It's based on when you would start, not when you actually submitted. 😉

😱 Their bars close at 1!?!? That's pretty early.

I've already submitted my primary and mostly all my secondaries, but I'm thinking of adding this school. I understand there are Jesuit beliefs and committment to service and helping others, which I value and respsect, however I'm wondering about the overall religious nature of the campus. Is it primarily a Catholic University such as Loma Linda, or is it more focused on the Jesuit beliefs of helping others? It's not something that I mind either way, however Loma Linda's secondary was extremely religious based so I'm just wondering.

nothing like loma linda, all relegions are welcomed and its not integrated really at all into the cirriculum like loma linda...so no worries really. The way their "faith" shows up is because of their huge commitment to service more then say other schools who are more research based like stanford or something.

Thanks so much for the quick response. It sounds like a great school, I think I'll go ahead and add it. I guess I'll be a little late, especially compared to my other apps, but I'll still give it a shot. 🙂

You'll have to let me know when you get your secondary. I submitted my primary there a couple days ago and haven't heard anything yet.

Does anyone know how they will choose which students go to Phoenix for their last two years for their clinical training? I suspect that students can apply through that stream after they are accepted.

Thanks in advance!

🙂

i read something that basically 40 or so kids are going ot phoenix for 3-4yr rotatons, this will start when the current applying 2010 class are 3rd years (so people like me and u). Id assume they will just ask those who are interested and then fill the rest with others? THey are increasing class sizes this year because of the phoenix addition so id assume if they dont have enough people willing to go some will have to do it there, though i for one would love to do 3-4yr at phoenix.
