Good attitude....there are always people that will try to bring negativity to you....but you are about to be a Dr.

I am going to PM you. I did the it the other way sorry

not trying to stir up another fight but... anyone can be nice when things are going well. its how you behave when everything is going against you that defines who you are... just my opinion

haha, that's how things feel without the letter. Which state do you live in? You got the letter pretty quick. They said to expect next week.

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving!!!

I live in Maryland. That's probably why I got it so fast.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I have a feeling this time next year, some of us will be celebrating it together instead of heading home. We should start getting cozy here. haha

I just want to say congrats to everyone who has been accepted to c/o 2014. I look forward to meeting you all next year. It has been a dream come true for me to become part of the Howard family. For those of you waiting, the fact that you interviewed this early is a very good sign. It is hard, but hang in there. I will be praying for you.

Although we work extremely hard here, the atmosphere is very supportive. I am SOOO glad that I made the decision to come here. The District of Columbia is an awesome place, and Howard College of Medicine is equally if not more Awesome.

WOOOHOOOOO Just got my acceptance letter in the mail! I live in Massachusetts in case people were wondering.

!!!!! :soexcited::banana::banana::zip::zip::soexcited: !!!!!

congratulations man. wish you much success at howard. I saw something weird at howard that i cannot get out of my head: there was a female student wearing a sleeveless shirt where her underarms were clearly visible. That student had more hair under her armpits than me. just cannot get that out of my head. anyway, good luck man.

lmao...was she a med student?

lmao...was she a med student?

yep, she was a med student. she was in the lecture that they made us observe. She wasn't even an ugly girl either, that's why it was so weird. Definitely a great way to get guys to leave you alone.

Thecleaner I guess you should grow underarm hair, I will act as a male repelent. That's too funny.

Ok, I read on the secondary application that you have to have two letters from professors but on the website it says you can have either letters from the professors or committee letter? Which is true cause I had just committee letters.

I'm sure if its a committee letter you good but call Ms. Walk in the morning

Hey sometimes u run out of razors and either 4get when your in walmart or can not get 2 walmart. When that happens 2 me i convince myself no one notices. I guess i need 2 rethink that. LOL

Trust me us men and I guess some women DO NOTICE I don't care if she looks like J-LO, hairy arm pits keep me away. I can deal with hairy legs in the winter well semi hairy, but armpit NO WAY lol.

that's true. the girl i saw could have used scissors on hers. also, one of the female students that was giving us our tour was wearing a V neck shirt and showing MAJOR cleavage. Howard needs to talk to that student asap. I've seen some beautiful black women on the interview trail but i didn't see any at howard (not saying they aren't there). the chocolate skinned girl with the dreads was kinda cute though 🙄

I saw plenty of cute girls when I was there, I'm surprised you didn't.

I wasn't gonna say anything but I decided to step in because this is worth me breaking from my studying for a quick sec. I can't sit back and allow you to keep doggin on my sistah's here! Howard has some of the MOST BEAUTIFUL black women here. I don't know where you interviewed or what but here at HUCM we got some bad sistah's! So I would appreciate it if you would refrain from speaking on my school and especially my BEAUTIFUL BLACK SISTAH'S!

Ok, back to yall's convo. Congrats again to everybody who has been accepted and welcome to the FAMILY. I emphasize FAMILY because that's what we are around here, a FAMILY and I said something to you cleaner because I am protecting my FAMILY. Nothing personal, but I can't just sit back and watch you talk about my FAMILY.

If you have any questions, holla at me. God bless yall!

bravo. seems like a second bad turn for this thread 👎

thecleaner, did you not have a good impression of the school when you came to visit? it seems like u've had an acceptance this cycle already. Is howard still one of your choices?

sidenote: I'm very glad howards super laid back. I saw some programs request that their students dress profession/semi prof when they are attending class. ie. ties n slack. man, that would be awful. I know that would be our future, but i'm in no hurry for that. I like having the option to dress like a scrub for a few more years.

wow , easy there little buddy. why are you getting so worked up if what i'm saying is complete BS. i mean, would anyone in their right mind get worked up if someone called tyra banks ugly? probably not because they'd know it was complete nonsense. You can always fish out the phonies and UT's by seeing who storms out to defend BS. I'm sure the women at howard are confident with what they are and dont need YOU to defend them. i bet you end up marrying a non-black woman

yeah i'm still considering howard. no school is perfect. i could find fault with every school that i interviewed at. howard isnt immune from criticism just because its a black school.

Ok Im a female and I can say that on my interview day I saw a number of beautiful black women (and men). I was a bit surprised because I was expecting everyone to look nerdy and uptight but that wasn't the case at all. Come to think of it, I didn't see anyone that looked ratchet (bad) male or female. Of course, like anywhere else on earth there probably are some rather "not-so-pretty" people at Howard but don't generalize all the Howard ladies. And I see exactly why blackdr2b got on the defense... I was a little offended and I don't attend Howard. I'll tell you the way my grandmother used to tell me, "If you have nothing good to say, don't say nothin!" We don't need the negative energy on this board, so please take that somewhere else!

PS. And why do you keep playing the "black" card? (saying that he would marry a nonblack woman, saying that you can't criticize a black school)
Black has nothing to do with it, he was offended because it's his school. If someone starts talking bad about my PWI school, I will be offended too.

Ok, Im done. Back to GOOD VIBRATIONS!!

So I am going to address you and not mess with you anymore because it seems as though you like to stir up some mess. That's not what the Howard thread is about and that's not what Howard is about and I am here to represent Howard University College of Medicine.

Just so you know, i'm not worked up at all. I don't have time to get worked up over your silly comments. Next, I know that none of my sistah's need me to defend them, but I do because I love my sistah's. The women around here are very confident and probably wouldn't trip off of what you think, but like I said earlier, I don't let people just talk about my family. That's what family is about, you protect one another even if the other doesn't need it.

And lastly, your comment about me marrying a non-black woman is actually funny. It made me chuckle for a second, especially seeing as how my WIFE is a BEAUTIFUL, STRONG, INTELLIGENT BLACK WOMAN. LOL. So before you begin to judge me or tell me what I would do, how about you try to get to know me. That way you don't end up with your foot in your mouth next time!

Well, now that that's done, I apologize for participating in the de-railing of this thread. I won't do that again. This thread is about you all and not about me. I had my time and now it is your time. So lets get back to celebrating the acceptances and the interviews/acceptances that are to come! God bless yall!

anyone know when howard will send out its next set of intw invites?

i like your style J, i'll look you up if i matriculate at howie

btw, 1 in 4 women in DC are HIV positive so that is definitely not the place to be hunting down women

🙁Why would you put stats up like that without checking your sources first. You know that is incorrect. If that were the case, then Washington DC would be on the same level as southern African countries (20-28%). A 25% rate among women, come on, you gotta be joking! The CORRECT rate is about 3% for both male and female. (And yes, this 3% is higher than West Africa. But still, you can't exaggerate or throw around numbers so loosely - that's just irresponsible. You're really beginning to come off as a troll... intentionally or unintentionally...

Sorry, but I just had to comment because ignorance is contagious and you have to catch it early on. No offense really.

For what its worth The Cleaner or whoever you are, I hope one of the students from Howard finds out who you are, submits your stupid comments to the admissions committee and get your admission revoked if you have been accepted already. You have no place being at Howard or touching patients in general if you have the views you do. This same population that you look down on will be the guys who will offer themselves as subjects for you to get your medical education. They should be respected and not talked about like that with your false statistics and all. You are lucky I don't know who you are. I think every school that accepts someone like you should know what a prick you are before they let you in and regret it. And unlike some posters who were not harsh on you, I am not sorry for being harsh. You deserve it!!!

that's harsh. i'm not a troll or a prick. i heard someone say 1 in 4 and it just stuck with me. I do not have anything against anyone in DC, howard, or people with HIV. i never said anything bad about anyone except put out a faulty statistic? so that makes me a prick and undeserving of being a physician?

I would not want ANYONE kicked out for what they said on a forum it's supposed anonymous. But, thecleaner you really should consider the school's mission which is to provide quality care to disadvantaged communities. So if 1-4 women has HIV in DC " which is not the case" you should be concerned with those numbers and as a physician want to help decrease those numbers. Disadvantaged communities suffer from a lot of diseases that other wise in suburban areas remain under control. Remember bridging the health disparities in urban communities is what you will be doing if you elect to attend Howard, not to criticize flagrant statistical data. Some of the data might surprise you, but your obligation will be help patients and increase the overall health of the community. Either way, I hope to become your classmate one day, even though some of the stuff you have said is a lil off, it's all good. I don't mind debate, as long as it is constructive and based on sound evidence, not he said she said. Good luck, I hope you choose Howard.

Some of the things said are definitely troll-like. I do remember ms walk kindly reminding us to mind our behavior on the forums. She mentioned an applicant who wasn't accept who wasn't paying any mind to what he said on the facebook forums. At least SDN is mostly anonymous, minus any "tell" to allude to who you are.

So anyone out there married or has a girlfriend/ boyfriend who is worried about losing you due to the demands of school or being away from their family to be with you. My girlfriend is suffering from both, I don't blame her she has a great family and has a sucessful job here as a nurse. Anyone care to share advice on how they are coping with this new chapter in their life. I tell her its gonna be okay we been together now for 8 years now since high school! But she is worried.

definitely not a troll. remember, my battles started while DEFENDING HOWARD. If i get rejected oh well, already accepted elsewhere. If they pull my acceptance i have 10 more chances to get in somewhere else. If those 10 other places reject me then oh well, life goes on.

good looking out jclass. good luck all

I'm worried about balancing the personal life with the med school life. On my end it's me who's worried and the bf who's trying to reassure me that he's not gonna get fed up with sharing me with med school. There's that feeling that unless they are a MS too they would just not tolerate or understand the demands of Med school. I have no idea how busy it will actually be when I'm finally doing the med school grind. He doesn't know if he wants to leave his family and career in the west coast, and its a decision I'm not wanting to influence. Sometimes it feels like it would be easier if it wasn't long distance, and the close distance would make it easier to get moments together between studying. However, I've heard some MS saying that even then it's hard to borrow time for the studying and the relationship.

One thing that I've been told sounds like good advice: "To keep him/her included and in the know of what's going on with the med school no matter how busy it gets" Maybe he/she can come and meet some of the classmates so he/she can get a better picture of what life is like there in DC.

Any advice/reassurance or perspective on this topic would definitely be welcomed.

i have mailed my secondary and application fee since nov.5. i have not had an email that says am complete. should i be worried wether they received it or not? i will really like to get an interview here.

Note to self: armpit hair will seriously derail a convo.....

I got the complete email about 3-4 days after I mailed my secondary. If i were u I would call.

I didn't get an email confirming until after 2 weeks of mailing my application (Aug 30). They might be slower now since they are in full interview/secondary processing mode. There was a hiccup earlier this month when Ms Walk (Is it Ms Walk or Dr Walk?) was out sick for awhile. That plus Thanksgiving break might have slowed them down too.

I am worried now about the LDR since I am now considering someone who is not in my city now or in my med school city. I do not want to waste my time or his. I wish there was an instruction manual for dating. There was one for getting in med school. Actually it is easier getting in med school than it is dating. LOL

I saw some cuties at HOWARD...the tall slim one that came and introduced himself.... the class pres....the dr that interviewed me....in the immuno class we were in.....whole lot of eye candy. The ladies had on nice outfits it made me realize I need to get a fall and winter wardrobe if I was coming here.

Yea the situation sucks overall but, what can you do? It must be a woman thing because I keep telling her I will make time. I wish someone out there a med student could provide some insight. It has got to be harder for you duckie, all the way in the WEST coast😱 thats gotta be rough. At least I'm only going from MA to DC.

PS who's ready for some monday night football!! Let's go Patriots baby!! Oh another thing I just gave away my MCAT stuff from kaplan, god it feels good getting rid of those helpful but anoying books!!!
