The waitlist is moving? How do you know? We should probably expect a phone call at this point? They probably won't send letters will they?

I got it in the form of an email from Ms. Stuckey (sent May 31)...but because I'm an international student, my offer is conditional on getting into the MD/PhD program..which I haven't interviewed for yet...hopefully I'll get to interview for that soon

Good luck!:luck:

Congrats!

BTW, people from around NOLA don't have a southern drawl. When I've travelled, more people have thought me and my friends were northerners. Maybe some people from northern Louisiana do.

Did your letter also say that you shouldn't expect to hear anything until June 30? I understand that you likely have different circumstances than most of the other hopefuls on here being an international MD/PhD applicant.

yea..I realized that when I was in town to interview..there were some that had it, but most didn't. It would be cool just to be able to do one though 🙂

It says "While it is possible you could be accepted at any time, we will be able to more clearly assess your chances of receiving an acceptance sometime after June 30,2010."

Since you got accepted, do you think that this list is like a high percentage of acceptance or what?

I really don't know..I thought everyone is on the same list, and everyone gets the same email. If the person doesn't make it onto the list, a straight rejection is given once the list is formed? ..at least this is my impression from interview day.

Good luck! :luck:

I am from north LA and got accepted this year. I am starting the great housing search this week. A friend of mine told me LSU-S used to keep a list of students looking for roommates as well as a list of graduating 4th years trying to sell or rent their houses. Does anyone know if LSU-NO does something similar? If so, who should i call or email about this?

Find the Facebook group - they already have some students with housing questions and options listed. It's like LSU New Orleans 2014 or something like that.

Are you in the class of 2018?

Are you in the class of 2018?

haha..hopefully not. Because the PhD portion is time-flexible, my actual "class" would range from 2016-2018 (6-8 years total). I'm just putting 2018 because it seems that the average time taken is ~8 years.

Wow! That's quite a commitment good luck!

Couple more days til the 30th. Anyone heard anything since getting a waitlist letter?

No, I'm keeping my fingers crossed still, we should know by the first week of July right? I am on month to month lease so I can move if I have to so I am prepared if I get accepted but I'm not gonna loose hope!

Alright. June 30 has come and gone. I have not been contacted by LSU and haven't heard anything since May 15. Has anyone on the waitlist received a call, email, or letter? At this point I'd almost rather get a "sorry, you have not been chosen" message than continue waiting in this limbo.

Haven't heard anything at all either, very frustrating.

Anyone know how many people are on the waitlist?

I wish they didn't call it "priority alternate" because it doesn't seem to be prioritized anymore than anywhere else. When I saw the term priority, I think it gave me false hope.

No, and I don't think anyone outside of the Admissions Office does know. Hopefully tomorrow (Tuesday) we'll hear some news because of the holiday today.

Yeah, the holiday was nice but all it did was delay us another day...

For those of you who haven't heard a peep from the Financial Aid office, call for an update. Ask what day your file was registered and what date they're on. They've handed out awards for some but the old bat working this office is pretty senile so files are falling through the cracks. She couldn't believe I was registered in March, and I didn't get my award. She told me to call Student Affairs, who told me to call Admissions, who didn't seem surprised Financial Aid had started the wheels in motion. Don't trust Fin Aid. Be proactive about it.

Good. Maybe I'll give them a call tomorrow. I was complete back on April 05

Called the admissions office, admissions will be out next week, so she said final letters will be sent by Friday. Joy.

Final letters as in "class is full" letters? What a bummer if so.

Didn't specify, could be that, or could be that they're sending acceptances to people who are filling withdrawal spots and rejections to people who didn't make the cut. Feel free to call and get more details, I'd love to know more specifics as well, I was more concerned with when we would be getting any information at all in my call.

Thanks. I'm going to call when I get home and will ask for more specifics.

I'm glad yall are calling. I cant call anymore- I think my voice is off limits! I probably have annoyed them enough... So the final verdict will be soon? hmmmm... this will be something...

I just called admissions and basically they will be sending out letters tomorrow but overall Cathy said there has been no changes but she couldn't give me an absolute or indicate what the letters might say. So she said overall wait listed folks need to plan like they are not getting accepted this year although there is a chance someone may still withdraw before August. But I heard before that the wait list was narrowed down about this time also so I am not sure what will happen.

Was told exactly what pre medical wrote. I guess there's always next year. Are we given priority over other students if we were waitlisted this year and apply next year?

Thats a good question. I can't believe this though, I really thought i was getting in this year....

I'm pretty positive you don't get priority next year, sorry. I've just been waiting to hear anything, I'm in at Shreveport but I haven't been able to sign a lease, etc. because I've had this over my head. Wish the news was better though.

hey at least your accepted thats all that matters. You woudnt consider deferring a year from Shreveport would u if u dont get into LSU-NO?

I thought about it, but like you said getting accepted is all that matters I can't pass it up.

Well yeah i guess next year i won't apply to shreveport since i dont think its realistic anyway. i think i'm just going to just apply to nola. but u made me realize that location does mean everything. But i think once you move there you'll like it.

"We do not anticipate many more withdrawals; therefore it is unlikely that we will be able to offer you a position for this year's entering class. However, we will keep the alternate list open until registration."

Anyone get accepted or rejected, or was this the letter sent to everyone?

yep got this too. i don't mean to make light of the situation, bc i know some of you are still hoping for good news from NOLA, but i was laughing the entire way through the letter. its ludicrous that its almost two weeks into JULY, and they're just getting around to telling people "oh...yeah our waitlist isnt moving, thanks for trying". i really REALLY hope that everyone that was on the waitlist had already started making plans, either for another school or reapplication.

sigh. anyway, good luck for the future to everyone here!! :luck:

I think it's unprofessional how LSU has handled the waitlist. I don't understand why they couldn't tell us: 1) How many students they expected to enroll. 2) How many students they had already accepted. 3) Where each of us was on the waitlist. 4) If the waitlist had started moving.

This is information they should have shared with us at the end of May or early June at the latest.

oh i agree. last year when i applied, they rejected me at the end of may, so i wasnt on the waitlist or whatever. this year, id already gotten into shreveport at the beg of December, so it was quite different from last years experience, but i can only imagine how it is for people that were really hoping to get an acceptance from nola. i think they need to interview less people, or get pickier about who they interview. im just completely baffled at their admission process...

Does anyone have any idea how many people are on the waitlist?

I think it is unrealistic to expect then to tell your place on the waitlist. Admissions is a bit of a black box, and it is frustrating, I know. I think if the ranking was public, their admissions' rubric could be cracked (maybe giving them too much credit for having a system). Also, if you know you are third on the list and can find out who are numbers 1 and 2, they might have a little problem with their brakes or something. There is no advantage for them to tell you anything. I think it was an unfortunate year to be on the waitlist. Repeating the gossip I passed along earlier upstream, more people than they expected accepted their invites.
