they stop interviewing before march i believe, i would have to check last years though

besides that, its non-rolling and they offer very few spots in december i think

I think you are correct on all counts here. I think I was confusing NYU with another school. It appears that interviews end in Feb, acceptances are emailed early March, and then the waitlist picking starts later...the only thing I am not clear on is how many acceptances go out in December.

a lot of my friends (couple of years ago) got in off the waitlist too, so there could be a lot of movement

anyone have an idea of around what complete date they are reviewing as of now?

Would I have a chance if I sent this secondary in now? I'm worried that since they finish interviews in January, they won't get to my file in time.

Since interviews are so short, i heard that they dont count much towards ur decision. can anybody comment on this??? just wondering.

My NYU interview was actually my longest so far - over an hour long! But I've also heard that it doesn't count much towards your decision and NYU is a very numbers-oriented school.

honestly, how would any of us know the answer to this question? we are just as clueless as you are; check out the main pre-med board for proof. this question was asked in a more general way and no one really knows for sure. :lame:

my interview went for about 25 minutes... about tied for being my shortest interview.

but the interviewer asked me all the questions that he wanted to ask and i had enough time to ask him a few questions as well. i heard that most are around 30 minutes (some my day had interviews as short as 15 minutes to some as long as about an hour).

as for how much they count for your application decision... who knows.

My interview was around 20 minutes as well. Shortest interview I've had.

We talked about NYU and New York the whole time. He only asked me one actual interview question and it was a clarification about one activity I did. I have no idea how to judge how I did. I feel like it was just an opportunity for them to see I was "weird" or not. I would have really liked to have pushed my agenda and explain why I wanted to go to NYU, but I didn't really get the chance.

Am I alone or did anyone else get this impression?

My interview was long last year, but I have heard it said that NYU does seem to use their interview more as a sanity check. I can't verify this though, so take it for what it's worth.

Just wanted to say that I love your sig mmmcdowe!

Hi all, does anyone know if NYU accepts in-the-area letters? I'll be in the northeast for an interview in late November, and I'd love to have the chance to interview at NYU as well. I'm coming from the west coast, so it's a bit of a trip.

Thanks in advance!

yes, they do. i got an interview invite at columbia and emailed nyu that same day. the next morning they emailed me back with an interview invite

Can I ask what did you say in your email? I'll be interviewing at Sinai soon and would like to let NYU know that I'll be in town but I'm not sure what to say exactly...

According to NYU's website, admission is rolling from december 15th onward, and they stop interviewing in January...different from other schools, I guess..

how does that work? if you interview prior to dec 15, you are eligible for a decision by dec 15, regardless of when you interviewed? And then if you interview between dec 15 and january, you are considered on a rolling basis?

Not sure, but this is what their website says:

"Our interview season begins in October and concludes at the end of January."

"Acceptance letters will be sent out on a rolling basis, beginning December 15, 2009. Wait list and rejection letters will be sent by March 1st. "

interesting. I don't know why I'm having a hard time interpreting that. I guess it means notifications begin dec 15, but they are based on the order of interview date.

Man I am excited to check out Bellevue.

On NPR the other night, they were talking about a new book from a psychiatrist that works there, and all the crazy stuff she sees.

And then I turned on VH1 and they had some documentary thing for Tupac, and they said how he went there when he was shot. If that's not a reason to go to med school here, I don't know what is.

Now that I'm interested in NYU, Seems like every day I hear something about Bellevue.

Yes, interview invite! It had been more than a month since my last one. Apparently they aren't actually too far into the interview season, given that I'm still picking November dates. Good luck to everyone else waiting here!

For those in-the-area emails to other schools, do people usually do those before scheduling the first interview to keep things flexible?

I may be getting my schools mixed up, but IIRC, NYU will give out some acceptances just before XMAS, but will then not give out anymore until early March. At least that is my understanding of what has been done in the past, but maybe it has been modified this year to more of a rolling thing...

Go look at last year's thread.

Like I said, they may have modified their policy this year.

MSTP Interview invite today!
Complete ~ mid september.

I was shocked they just told me when to come, other schools ask you.
I'm also shocked b/c their date for me is just two days after another MSTP interview.

Scared and nervous but excited!

-------------
Do past intv'wrs (who've had positive feelings/feedback) know what they especially like to hear? I imagine the "located in NYC" is getting old for them to be hearing. Are they robotic and cold to everyone, even those they accept?

AHH! Just got an interview invite!!!! Complete late-August! So thrilled, my first Manhattan invite 🙂

Invite here too but on an extremely short notice!

Can anyone confirm that we have to be there by 10:30 am on the day of the interview? I think that is what the lady said over the phone but that seems kind of late.

It's different for everyone based on the time of their interview. Mine was 9:15am. You might as well call to make sure instead of showing up late.

That means you have the afternoon interview...if so, then your day at NYU doesn't really start until 11 AM, and they tell you to get there around 10:30 to 10:45 IIRC...

I was told to get there at 10:30 am for a 10:45 am interview. That makes sense, right? Hopefully nothing got screwed up and there's some info session at 11. Either way, that's pretty ballin' because I dislike getting up at 7 to be there at 8.

I've got no prob getting up for an 8am interview if they're putting me up in a hotel for two nights. 😀

i had an afternoon interview, and the day started at 12. i got there between 11:30 and 11:45.

but i think your best bet is to call and check. don't feel dumb; they won't care.

Was complete on Aug 5 and my status is still "Under Review", is there any way I can contact them? Or is this pretty much a rejection?

just wanna hear some suggestion. I interviewed here during october, and its probly my number one school. Should i write LOI to them or is it too early? i thought LOIs were supposed to be written after you get waitlisted. would LOI even help at all? thanks.

I know someone who just got an interview invite who was complete in mid August. There is definitely still hope.

I interviewed here also, but the housing here is definitely collegial with coed community bathrooms and all. I did not expect a member of the opposite sex to walk in the bathroom after getting out of the shower 😳... I guess for ~650, you can't complain?

does anybody know if we dont hear back in december, does nyu want our fall grades???

It's about one week till my interview and I still dont know the schedule. She said she'd contact me...hmm?

i was complete on 8/12... don't know what to think since i haven't heard from them yet 😕

Interview Invite today! Complete end of August. So excited! never been to new york before!
