interesting that we dont have to apply to them separately on amcas! so just putting both on the secondary gets you to apply to 2 arizona schools? if so yay this make me more excited about arizona now 🙂

That is how I understand it. It is pretty much one secondary for two different schools. People last year were accepted at one and not the other, so I think after the secondary it becomes like two different schools. It is sort of a weird setup, but I do know that interviews are separate.

they ask u if u have a preference. you can say tuscon only, phoenix only, or something along the lines of both = ok. If u choose no preference or w/e id assume u are considered at both.

awesome! thanks guys 🙂

I actually called on Friday and they said they had all of my stuff...got an interview invite today...OOS

Oh and I am pretty sure I put both campuses (if I remember correctly) but only got an interview invite from Tucson today...

by the way why is it that the am interviews you show up half an hour before and the afternoon interviews you show up 2 hours and 15 mins before?

Congrats Sleight, thats awesome 🙂

hope you rock that interview!

i am wondering if it is a typo...or maybe they do stuff before the interviews in for the afternoon ones and after the interviews for the morning ones (does that make any sense?) anyway i called ua a couple of mins ago to ask but no one picked up (lunch time here) so hopefully they call back...

I think the only difference between the morning and afternoon interviews is that morning interviews are before the tour and afternoon interviews are after the tour. Regardless, everyone on a given day is at the same orientation/tour thing. When I found that out AFTER signing up for a 2 pm tour I was not really happy, because I thought I could just drive down to Tucson after my morning class. Now I have to just go down in the morning.

Ok that makes sense...I just made mine for the morning so that I could get the interview over with and then go on the tour...I feel like if I went on the tour before interview I would be sweaty (reality...), and totally nervous...i would rather get it over with then not have to worry anymore...

I did the same, they said id get a decision soon, the lady made me paranoid i think its a rejection lol 🙁

Hey guys, how did you all abbreviate University of Arizona College of Medicine? I noticed on their website that they used "UA College of Medicine" but that is way too many words, and I need to cut my essays down. Is UACOM ok or did yall just put UA?

UA COM is fine for Tucson, UA COM - Phoenix is fine for Phoenix

If you are an OOS candidate and get an invitation for one school, is it poor form to contact the other campus before scheduling flights?

If you are an OOS candidate and get an invitation for one school, is it poor form to contact the other campus before scheduling flights?

it is fairly common (from what I know) for students to send an email stating that they will be in the area and request that if the school intend to interview them they try to schedule it around the same time. I am still learning about this myself as I am facing the same problem in Virginia but I would call your advisor for a full answer...

You'll have to contact the schools to see how they're doing it this year. Last year everyone interviewed in Tucson and Phoenix and both schools were able to see the interview evaluations from the other campus. For your application to be complete at either school you had to have completed both interviews. With OOS students in consideration this year who knows what has changed.

Wait, so are you saying that neither school will consider us for acceptance if we haven't interviewed at both schools? I really hope not. I am most interested in the Phoenix campus for a variety of reasons (mostly family), so I worked it in earlier than Tucson.

No, I'm just saying that was the case last year. You need to contact the school to find out what system they are using this year because they've gone from IS only to IS and OOS for the first time.

Interview invite!!! Secondary was submitted 8/17. OOS.

I only got the invitation from the Tucson campus. I will call the school later to see if interviewing at one campus is suffice. If not, I'll contact the Phoenix campus.

Ok, I called the admissions office.

If you indicated that you are interested in both the Phoenix and Tucson (pronounced: Too-sohn.. I did not know that. The lady laughed and corrected me haha), you will be receiving interview invites from BOTH campuses. The two campuses make a synchronized decision to interview you or not, but they send the e-mails at different time.

So if you received an interview invite from one campus and not the other yet, and you are OOS like me, then you should wait for the other campus to send you their interview schedule too. Hope that helps!

boo, I got the tucson invite >24 hrs ago! still nothing from phx. I go to school in CA, and I've already scheduled my tucson interview... so I better be able to schedule the phx one around the same time...

Really? I just got the Phoenix e-mail, 5 hours after the Tucson invitation. Maybe you should give them a call or e-mail, or make sure you didn't accidentally delete it. >.< Good luck.

I just got the phx invite after getting tucson yesterday...is it standard to select the first possible date? I mean it would work MUCH better for me to wait until the 3rd or 4th week that they offer...is this a bad choice?

did you all call to check if you were complete? or did you check to see if they cashed your checks? i wonder if i should call after a couple days..

called after like 3 weeks or so of sending it in.

I'm interviewing at both Tuscon and Phoenix - they got back to me quick! I have been very impressed with the admissions office. I have called them a couple of times and they have been friendly and accommodating, especially if you talk to Anne. If anyone else has questions about your personal situation, you should just give them a call. 🙂

When is everyone else interviewing? I haven't picked a Phoenix date, but I'll be in Tucson on Sep 14th in the morning.

Weirdest thing. I had problems with my internet upon submission (firefox was being stupid) and it apparently deleted my email address. I sent an email to the school asking if it was okay add a cover sheet with my email address on it. Did anyone else's email get erased? 😕

Definitely not a bad choice. They claim that admissions is "rolling", but last year no offers were made until mid December even though almost everyone had already been interviewed. So, there's no advantage to doing it ASAP.

Thanks for the help! I think I will go with a date a few weeks later...it works better with my school schedule...and other interviews...

Isn't it odd that according to US News, AT Still in Kirksville, MO (which is a DO school?) is higher ranked than UofA?

Yikes.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Really? Because according to U.S. News both schools are unranked.
U of Ariz 2008-2009 ranking: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-medical-schools/items/04003
At Still 2008-2009 ranking: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-medical-schools/items/04136

Also, D.O. schools don't even have a ranking system for themselves, since there are so few of them and each school is known for their own "specialty". So I don't see how they can even compare it to an M.D. school.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

basically UofA had a pretty crappy USMLE pass rate a couple years ago, which might've dropped their rankings. However, they've revamped their curriculum it seems, so hopefully it'll get them back up. In any case, MD >>>> DO (nothing's wrong with DO, but I'd still rather have an MD)

that is actually correct...according to one of my professors who is really involved in the the SOM said there was a new dean that basically totally changed the curriculum and it was disastrous and that year 12 ppl failed the USMLE and the other people did fairly poorly. Since then, there is a new dean and things are looking up

Interview invite from Phoenix!!!!! My first interview!

:soexcited::soexcited:

I added the school yesterday (8/26) and I got the secondary email today (8/27). Not looking forward to answering those questions, but hopefully I can get this done soon! I really like U of A, it'd be a dream come true to get in!

Hi, guys,

Just like MadEvans, I am a first-year student at the UACOM-Phoenix. I was accepted to both Tucson and Phoenix and was very torn between the two, but eventually chose Phoenix. I just wanted to let you know (as probably most students at any school would say) that I absolutely love my school. We have a cutting-edge curriculum with many unique highlights, brand-new amazing facilities and technology, and our small class size makes us all very close and supportive of each other.

I won't overwhelm you with a lot of information this early in the cycle, unless you want it (you can just PM me), but I just wanted to let you know that some of us SDN addicts from last year are more than willing to help with any questions you may have. Good luck to all of you, and perhaps we'll see you on campus for your interviews!!

Is anyone interviewing Sept 22-23? Tucson first, then Phoenix? And what is the best way to travel from Tucson to Phoenix? It's 2 hours away, right? I'm OOS so I won't have a car. Thank you in advance.

Just got a Tucson interview! I scheduled it for September 21st! So excited! 🙂

Ok so I have to change my interview date for phx bc of other interview conflicts. I tried to call all day and no one was there. I left a message and then called the tucson campus. They said i would be able to change but that i needed to do it through the phx campus. now it is friday and no one has called me/emailed me back. i wish i could have gotten this all taken care of before the weekend...has anyone else had problems contacting the phx campus?

I have an interview scheduled at Tucson on 9/23 and at Phoenix on 9/25 any one going to be there on either of those days?

Same. They won't pick up my calls or answer my e-mail. 😡

Can anyone tell me how much the secondary costs? I can't seem to find the price anywhere.

So I just went to a mock interview at U of A that was a free event put on by the school and I learned so much! I haven't had any interviews yet so I didn't really know how I was going to handle them and it was such a good experience! I got to sit for three interviews and then the interviewer evaluates you and basically talks to you about what was good and what you need to work on. I feel like it really helped me so that I won't be as nervous about the first interview. Plus, it was done by people who actually either used to interview applicants or currently interview applicants so that was great!

Ooooh. Care to share any particularly good or surprising tips? 😀

Just to make 100% sure - they don't send you an "app complete" notification do they? Is the only surrogate I have to know if they received my payment, to see on my bank account whether the check has been cashed?

well u of a is a pretty casual school when it comes to interviews...they do two one-on-one interviews that are each about 40 minutes. they are closed interviews for tucson and open or closed for the phx campus.

they pretty much talked about what to wear and how to prepare for each school as far as doing research about the school and how to present yourself as confident but not cocky. they basically dont want you to recite your resume but at the same time hit some key points about what you are proud you have done (remember its a closed interview so they see nothing at all)

they will likely ask about health care reform (along with every other school) so know a lot about that...and know "why ua" and be able to cite specific aspects to the program that interest you...

more than anything it helped to get the nerves out of the way a little bit and to give an idea about what to expect when you walk into the room...

nope they don't. i called a couple of weeks after submitting and they told me over the phone.

I was there yesterday too, and this was the biggest thing for me.

I'm an OOS and applied to UA and they sent me an email saying they have received my application and will decide soon if they give you a secondary blah blah. Anyone know how long it takes for this screening?

Does anyone have a saved copy of the domicile affidavit? I submitted my secondary yesterday, and now I can't access the affidavit. I tried calling both offices, but they are not picking up 🙁

I did the same thing. Just keep calling. It took me a few tries and I got a hold of a very nice lady in Phx and she e-mailed it to me. I deleted the email though so i cant help you.
