i just called them. they've only had one committee meeting thus far and have already called/emailed everyone from that batch. a longer wait doesn't really mean anything. when your application goes to committee depends on when your faculty interviewer is available to attend a committee meeting. the lady on the phone told me they contact applicants as soon as a decision has been made. back to waiting for a random phone number to appear on the my cell phone.

Cool thanks. That makes sense. It's still gonna hard for me to keep my level of neuroticism to manageable levels this week 🙂. Good luck to all of you guys.

Thanks for the info.

All I know is I'll freak out if I see an area code 916 on my caller ID.

Hey guys,

I interviewed on Sept 29th, is there any chance of hearing earlier than 6 weeks from Davis? Or is it pretty much 6+?

They didn't happen to mention when their next meeting would be, did they?

I was in the same boat until 2 secs ago, when I checked randomly and dates were up for January. You should check again now.

Gah!!

I still don't see any dates available everytime I log in. Should I give them a call? It's been almost a month now since I got the interview invite.

I asked, but the lady on the phone was not sure. She also seemed a little annoyed so I didn't want to push for too much information. I interviewed Sept. 15th, and I was told we would know by the end of October at the LATEST. I'm gonna keep hoping that they stay true to their word.....

We both are hoping. Thanks for the help.

during our admissions office presentation, the director of admissions guy said that decisions will be coming out ~8 weeks after your interview date via phone call and/or email. he also said they offered 7 (? it was some number less than 10) acceptances on 10/15. so i would just hang tight and try not to obsess... at least not for now 😉

wow that's not very many acceptances. I wonder how many people were considered in that pool, and what happens to those who were not given the acceptance.

I called Ed in the office at lunch today. The woman kept saying that they hadn't made a decision yet and we'd hear as soon as one was made. However, Ed said that they'd made a decision about all the applicants who interviewed on the 15th. All the acceptances have been called in, and when I talked to him he said they were working on the e-mails. I think we should of hear news by tomorrow. This sucks!

So are you saying those accepted have been notified and the emails are for those waitlisted/rejected? Or just that all the decisions have been made and nobody has been notified?

How come Ridley and Elephant 333 don't agree? I like Ridley's answer better.

so the wild goose chase continues. i called Ed this AM, and he told me that there's a possibility that if you interviewed on the 15th, your application has not been reviewed yet. i'm honestly fed up with all of the differing accounts they are telling people. i think someone else needs to call ed, and see what he tells them. he did tell me that all acceptances thus far have been notified, and the committee is still working on the emails for those not accepted, but he could not track down individual application statuses.

Never thought I'd say this, but here's hoping they haven't reviewed my app yet. (interviewed on 9/9)

I really really want to go here. Interviewed Sept 29th, can't wait another 3 weeks!!

Maybe after this set they can start sending out the next batch of interviews 🙂?

Hi guys, I got a dilemma.

I have a 30 MCAT, GPA 3.59, and I'm studying to retake MCAT Jan 30. The score comes out March 2. Now the interview dates are all in Feb, which would be the earliest possible.

Should I schedule my interview early March so I could show Davis my new score during interview? Or should I interview as early as possible (ie Feb)? Does Davis even allow Jan score to be considered?

Thanks!

Honestly, I'm not sure why you're retaking a 30. That's a solid score, unless you have one very low section.

Hi, thanks JimmerJammerMrK

No, my score's pretty even: B 11, P 10, V 9. I thought it's not good enough since Davis' average is 32, and I've only gotten 2 interviews so far (last app cycle, none). So I thought my score's not good enough, maybe to make up for other areas I'm lacking? So a 30 doesn't need retaking?

I guess my question is: Would a better Jan score help after interview? Do they even consider it? Doesn't Davis state that application file is closed after 2ndary?

You'll need to check to see what the latest MCAT date they'll consider is. Keep in mind that an average (or even a median) is exactly that. There are people with scores below that and above it. If you have an interview at Davis, they are probably OK with your numbers.

taking the jan mcat is useless for this cycle. If you want to take it because you feel you might have to reapply then so be it. Davis considers your file closed basically, they accept no updates or anything else. After the interview they give you a one week period where you can update then thats it. Once agian jan mcat = useless waste of time as far as helping you get into davis post interview. no school will consider mcat scores released in march 2010 for their fall 2010 class.......unless im misunderstanding you, i have no idea what you are taking it for outside of reapplying for next year (which is fine if thats your plan not saying its bad)

Sorry if I wasn't being clear. I'm applying this cycle, and besides my other interview (final decision pending), Davis is my only interview so far (haven't attended interview yet, earliest date in Feb). Since my GPA's only 3.59, I thought a 30 MCAT isn't high enough to prove my academic caliber. The chance of getting accepted with 2 interviews is kind of 50/50 (I'm not good at stats), so I'm gearing for reapplying next year if it needs to be.

I was thinking of the U of Toledo model. They said they would consider Jan MCAT if they receive the score before a decision has been made, during the interview season. I thought if Davis have a higher score from me, it would boost my odds of acceptance. And since the Feb interview is so close to March 2 release date of Jan MCAT, I thought it'll be better if I hold off on interview a bit. But then later interview means less class spots up for grabs. Thanks for the 1 week post-interview window of time for updates tip.

theres still a lot of interviewing time left, but if you got an interview from davis they obviously think on paper you seem like a good student. I wouldnt stress so much about it. It seems you are already in the mindset of reapplying so just go with your current plan of jan mcat. Even if you got a 35 mcat its not going to matter much this cycle as by march most schools have filled most of their classes. Not to mention many schools do not accept such a late score, toledo is the exception certainly not the rule. I dont know davis policy on this, id call them but chances are such a late mcat wont do much.

Yeah, I don't know if they would look at the score from Jan...but honestly I don't think Davis is really all about scores, I have a friend who got in last year with a 29. I agree that the fact that you got an interview means that they already really like you.

.I guess they may be strict on that Sept is the latest acceptable MCAT rule. And if I got an interview invite, my score is probably acceptable and my interview performance would weigh much more heavily in post-interview final decision-making regarding an acceptance. So it's probably a better game plan to practice and nail the interview. Thanks for the advice, good luck to you guys too!

Update: I called the Davis admissions and the guy on the phone said they would not consider a Jan MCAT score, even if they receive the score before a decision is made. So that answered my question...thanks for the help again. Also, he said Feb is likely to be the last interview month, as they should be able to finish all the interviews in Feb.

same boat here. this officially sucks!

Hey, I'm trying to plan some logistics for east coast/west coast travel. Does anyone know when Davis's earliest interview slots are for, at this point in the application season?

I just reserved an interview date yesterday, and I only saw that the earliest date is Feb 9. The ones left are Feb 9, 10, 17, 25. The admissions guy on the phone says there're probably no more interviews after those date (meaning they will finish by end of Feb). Well, I can't be 100% sure b/c I can't see the dates anymore after reserving my interview.

Noooooo! That means if you do not get an interview here soon it's over!

I don't think that's the last word. Feb is still long way off. They'll keep the interview invites coming along.

Do these guys do silent rejections? Complete for over two months, no news.

Whoever said the med school admissions process is random was right.

Last app cycle I was complete in Oct and didn't get a rejection email from them until early April. So feels like they kind of do silent rejection. Don't almost all schools do that, though? Or you mean some schools small pool you for interviews? But getting a secondary invite from Davis is like being small pooled.

This app cycle, I'm complete 8-7 and got invite 10-20 (over 2 months too), so there's still a chance.

Why do you say the admission process is random? Something odd about how your application's going?

Sep 15th interviewee here too. Heard nothing. I'm going just as crazy. I am definitely feeling an impending rejection/waitlist since I got no phone call. But still, I would like to know now!!!! Seriously, it shouldn't be that hard to write: sorry, we had a lot of good applicants this year, good luck next year or somewhere else and then look up some email addresses to send to. 😱

I know.... I'm hoping that what Ed told ridley is right and there's a chance a few apps from that day haven't been decided on yet.... but otherwise... I'm hoping for at least a waitlist! 🙁

Interviewed here on 10/22. As others have stated, it is hard for this place not to become your first choice after meeting the faculty and the students. I sensed a vibe of camaraderie among the students that has been unmatched from any other place I have seen. Loved it!

It was mentioned during the orientation that 8 acceptances had been offered out of 24 interviewees, and that there was still some conjecture as to whether the 2010 incoming class would be smaller. I think 105 vs. 93, including MD/PhD, MD/MPH students. Yikes! I may have the numbers wrong, so if anybody wants to chime in that would be great. Good luck everybody!

Surely there had been more than 24 interviewees by October 22nd. In my group alone there were probably like 12 people. So I guess that means they've reviewed 24 people so far.
