Sigh, I have been waiting for so long, I don't remember how it felt when I wasn't waiting for anything. I guess I should be thankful I have an acceptance, but the waiting game definitely is cRAP!:scared:

Davis is really getting on my nuts. It's May 21st!!! COME ON!!! It looks like they have a **** ton of us "on hold"

has anyone talked to Ed post-May 15 in regards with the people on Hold...

No, but that's a good idea. Are hold people higher priority or lower priority than wl?

For all of those who are wondering, there is some movement from the hold list, although in my case, it was not good news. After almost 8 months of no news/hold/whatever mysterious thing we want to call it, I was waitlisted. :scared::scared:😡😡

Waitlist at Davis is hopeless, so I've pretty much given up. 🙁 Good luck to those of you who are still waiting with the hold positions, but just know it is making some sluggish movement.

Now to wait for UCLA. :luck:

Just wanted to let any rural-prime folks who are still waiting to hear that there has been some movement. I was accepted off of the prime wait list early this week. Good luck everyone! Hopefully there are still some seats.

Are you accepting the offer?

No, but that's a good idea. Are hold people higher priority or lower priority than wl?

I am wondering about that too. Someone had talked to Davis admissions before and it seem to have been hinted that it was above wait-list. But after seeing how things are on SDN, I am not so sure.

A WL for Prime was accepted. A WL for regular MD was accepted. But a "hold" was denied and a "hold" was put onto the WL.

I know every case is unique and SDN is a small portion of the total number of students applying but from the 4 examples it seems like "hold" is below WL.

But Oze was planning on calling to find out more info. In any event, I guess all we can do is just wait. And fret a little.

I don't know why you would say that, there has already been some movement and I'm sure there is will be more to come. I would imagine that the competition at UCLA would be even steeper... Either way, good luck!

I'm sorry if I sound like a pessimist. It is my nature on these sort of things like applications. But so far this application cycle, my pessimism has served me well. After all, it was always right and it always softens the blow so very much. 😀😀

About wait-list movement, I'm highly skeptical about it this year. For example, if you migrate over to the UCSD forum, you will notice that their wait-list is moving so slow that they are going to do another round of cuts to their acceptable pool. I would expect the same for other UCs. Wait-list at this time of the year is a very sad position to be in if you are waiting for a UC.🙁🙁😡

In conclusion, if you are wait-listed at Davis but accepted elsewhere, be happy. At least you will be going to medical school next year instead of having to pin your luck on winning the lottery.:laugh::meanie:

outside of UCI, the WL at the other UCs tend not to move as much it seems, its just how it is. I believe at the interview ed even told our group that the WL doesnt move a whole lot or something to that affect. Its unfortunate but gl to the lucky few who get in.

I remember this statement from Ed as well. And the class has been full at UCD for a long time, hence the holds and waitlists.

Is UC Davis' wait list ranked? And if so, does anyone have any idea how it is ranked?

This school seriously lacks professionalism when dealing with applicants. There are people here who interviewed back in September (Almost NINE months ago) that have yet to hear anything. Davis needs to get their act together. Good luck to those who are still in dark.

Hahaha crap, thats certainly not good news. Well I am giving up. As an international I'm probably at the bottom of the bottom of the bottom of the list, with a RED SKULL next to my name ;p. Good luck everyone! 👍

But Oze was planning on calling to find out more info. In any event, I guess all we can do is just wait. And fret a little.

I called but got more personal info on my file than I bargained for (nothing bad). As far as what is better (hold or waitlist) I was told I was still in the running for anything from WL to acceptance off of hold, so take that for whatever it is worth. It does sound like there are actively evaluating hold files, so hopefully we hear something soon.

Have any PRIME applicants been accepted into regular MD? If movement ceases for PRIME, might I still be considered for the regular MD..?.. I sure hope so..

Thanks for calling Oze! Good luck! Did they go in detail about your file and reasons why you are on hold? Naturally, you don't have to answer that question. 🙂

I was accepted into PRIME off of the wait list last week and what I got out of the entire acceptance process was that you should still be considered for both programs. I say this because I was given the option to accept the PRIME seat, or decline it an remain on the regular MD wait list. The only way one decision could derail the other is if the MD committee decided not to approve your file. Sorry for the long winded answer, but I think you will be considered for both until all movement ceases.

Thanks for calling! That answers my question. Oh well, que sera sera.

I'm not sure if anything has changed since publishing, but my professional school advising counselor had a book that said UC Davis waitlist has "high", "middle" and "low" and that we can call and find out what level we are in starting June. It said that 1/3 of the High waitlisters get in. Not very good odds if you ask me. Like I said, I don't know if it still works like this, but maybe we could try calling in June and find out.😕

I'm one of the people who hasn't heard a word since interviewing back in September. I just called the admissions office again to ask what my status technically was ("on hold" / "waitlist" / etc), and without actually looking up my info I was told that my status was "technically nowhere".

I asked if they had any kind of time frame in which I could expect to hear, and she said ~2 weeks. So hopefully those of us still waiting to hear anything will get some news, be it good or bad, in the next 2 weeks!

:luck: to everyone still waiting!

Call Ed. He gives you more information than the assistants.

Think if I call Ed regarding the waitlists placement or chances of getting off list he would get ticked off?

Sigh, ED IS out on Jury Duty...

Update: In response to my question of if the waitlist was ranked yet the staff lady replied with " The Adcom is not there yet. "

PS Jesus why are the staff such a holes, they respond in such a brutal way. "NO! YOU ARE MISTAKE!"

As I get more and more jaded with this process, I tend to have less and less reverence for the feelings of admissions people.

"Technically nowhere" I love that! 😀

Anyways, I certainly understand the frustration because I am one of those that are on hold too. But let's not get mean towards the admissions people. I have been involved with reviewing applications and dealing with acceptances before for other programs and it is no easy business. Then after years of getting applicants calling and emailing in semi-panic mode starts to train you to be very short and detached in your response. It is not personal. The people that answer the phone essentially are stuck in the middle and have to "apologize" for things that are not their fault.

Let's stay nice everyone! 🙂

Agreed. UC Davis has one of the rudest telephone people. I called twice and never wanted to go through that experience again. So, I guess their meanness accomplishes their goals so we don't bother them. 😡😡

I think Ed is great though - I think he lets you know as much as he knows. The assistants just follow the party line.

I agree. In my emailing with Ed, he has been helpful. Poor guy though. He probably gets more emails and phone calls because he knows more and is nicer about it.

Hi everyone, Ed is back and I managed to talk to him for a few moments. He looked at my file and informed me that no decisions have been made about my file. They still have a lot of applicants to sort through and they have sent off a lot of rejections already. I asked if I am still in the running to be accepted, he said it's hard to say. I wonder what that even means? Are anyone out there still receiving acceptances? Any advice about what I should do? I have some concrete ideas about how to enhance the school's community and am thinking about writing them a letter of intent. Not sure if it's a good idea. Any thoughts? What have you all done?

I am not sure that UCD accepts LOIs. Can anyone else chime in?

Called Ed, he basically said "You are on the waitlist, but so are 100 other people" And also he said they don't practice the Tier system anymore, so don't call and bother him if you were wondering. I take it that my chances are not looking good with that note and will be starting preparation to cues next week! GL everyone!

I asked Ed if I could send in an update letter and he said that the committee wouldn't consider it.

Hmm. Oops. Wish I knew that sooner. I sent an update because I moved recently and therefore started up different ECs. Oh well. Hopefully me sending the update won't be a knock against me.

I recall that on interview day they said they would only accept update letters for 1 week after your interview day. After that, they wouldn't consider anything else you sent them. I assume this applies to LOIs as well.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you guys know that my best friend just got off the waitlist. Looks like the waitlist is moving. Good luck to every waiting, especially you guys in application purgatory.

Hi everyone, thank you for all your advice! I really appreciate them. What about for people who don't have any decisions made? What does that mean for them (folks like me)? Does it sound like I have a shot at being admitted?

Also, I sent a 2nd update in early May. The way I feel is that at least they have them. If they want to look at it, at least I know I put my best effort into this process and they have it to do what they (admissions) want with the additional update.😳

The general consensus here is no one has any idea what is going on. Davis has been rather cryptic. The conversations Oze has had with Ed indicated initially that being on "hold" was better than being on the WL. However, after more calls from Oze to Ed and from what Oze has reported back with, that initial perception is not really strong any longer.

I have a slightly bad feeling that those of us on "hold" are lower than WL. Kind of like we were reviewed, but left aside to come back to and along the way suddenly Davis accepted a full class and WL a full list. Then they looked back at our "hold" pile and was like...oops.

I say this because from reading here on SDN, 1 "hold" was rejected, 1 "hold" was WL. While 3 WL was accepted off the WL. (1 was from Prime)

Anyways, in the end I have no idea. I know SDN is only a small % of the # of people applying, but that is my feel from reading people's post. Being someone on "hold" myself, I hope I am wrong and that the "hold" is basically a WL.

Is it alright to ask for people's stats to do a little analysis? Or perhaps it'll just make us go more crazy. 😱:scared:

Hi guys. I've been a silent reader of this thread for a while. I talked to Ed and he told me that as a hold, the best we can expect is a WL at this point (or a rejection). He said we should be notified by email in the coming weeks of their decision. Not the greatest news, but there still is hope😳.....

That sucks to hear. When did you talk to Ed?

I guess then the next question is when one get put onto the WL, does one automatically go to the bottom? Or can one get ranked to a high spot from the hold? Heh, but I suppose that means someone needs to know how Davis' WL gets ranked and I read above that they don't do the Tiered system any longer.

I talked to Ed during the end of this week. Good luck everyone!

Hey guys - not sure how helpful this is (in terms of figuring out what is going on with your own application), but I thought I'd post my experience.

I interviewed in March - I don't know if I was ever on "hold" - I never received an email saying "hold" or noticed the word "hold" on the application page. I was waitlisted on May 18th, then received a call from Ed on May 27th in the afternoon. At 4pm on the nose, they sent an acceptance email. I have until June 1st to accept or decline (so about 5-6 days); the email said that "after this date, your spot will be given to another applicant."

So it sounds like they are still accepting, probably spot by spot, as people accept or reject.

Good luck to everyone! I know it's frustrating...

Ah, finally, this makes sense (in terms of timing for me). Hopefully I'll be in your shoes soon.

Thank you for that info. It was very helpful. Information is valuable. Congrats on being accepted!

The hold is something we made up. Some of us has never heard anything since the interview, a few since Oct last year. We weren't waitlisted or anything. So we made up the term "hold" unofficially. It kinda stinks cus we have no knowledge on what is going on. Oh well!

Man, I find it annoying that I went through the time and money to fill out the secondary, fly over for an interview, book a hotel, and yet still not receive a decision on my application half a year later! 🙁 This process is grueling....sorry for the ranting.
