I just reserved an interview date yesterday, and I only saw that the earliest date is Feb 9. The ones left are Feb 9, 10, 17, 25. The admissions guy on the phone says there're probably no more interviews after those date (meaning they will finish by end of Feb). Well, I can't be 100% sure b/c I can't see the dates anymore after reserving my interview.

Wow, that's not good. Anybody received an interview invite recently?

i got an interview invite today at 5 pm, i have to say i was really shocked considering i dont consider myself qualified for UC....i didnt accept the interview date yet since i was hoping they were going to post more sooner ones? should i take the feb date? all they had were 3 feb dates...nothing sooner, nothing in march

feb is the last month they are interviewing so take it...

Hey can anyone give me a run-down of how the student overnight works? I have an interview but they havent sent me info about it yet. I'd like to buy my plane tickets this week because Southwest is having a $25 ticket sale.

Do you just show up at your host's in the evening and sleep there and then just go to the interview in the morning? I assume an evening ticket would be best, like 6 or 7 pm arrival?

yeah you show up at your host's place the evening (or afternoon) before, and then usually take all your stuff with you to the interview and head directly to the airport or wherever after interview day is done.

there should have been info about student host and who to email when they sent you interview invite/confirmation.

Call the call from Ed on Monday. Im in! Interviewed on 9/29. Got the news much earlier than the original 6-8 weeks time frame.

Congratulations OLee! As someone who interviewed a week after you I'm officially going to be on edge the rest of the week...:scared:

From previous posts it seems the interview dates up to Jan are all booked up. Feb is the earliest. Also, the admissions guy on the phone (Ed?) says they should be able to interview all invited candidates by end of Feb, so that they probably don't need to schedule any March dates.

Nope.... interviewed on 9/15 and haven't received ANY news yet. Although now that someone who interviewed 9/29 has gotten accepted, I'm assuming that means I'm not in. 🙁 Hoping for a waitlist spot at least!!!!

Has ANYONE been waitlisted or rejected post interview yet?

i interviewed on 9/23....now paranoid, dont want to freak out too much but its odd that they had such a fast turnaround on someone who was on 9/23....very worried now

The Southwest deal is rad for me, 25bux to fly from SD is great, especially because it is the same price as flying from OC (SNA) or LA which are usually cheaper.

I haven't gotten anything about overnight stay with a student, at least I don't remember anything in the email. I think I will look over everything again, but probably going to just book for a flight landing around 6 or 7pm on the day before. That sounds reasonable for a student host.

didn't someone previously mention that the timing of your decision is based more on when your interviewer is able to attend one of the committee meetings than on when you actually interviewed? or maybe that was for a different school...

in any case, I would think SDN would have more than just 2 acceptances so far... SDNers are just more talented than that. Then again, this does seem like a pretty selective school.

Hey, Just to check, since UC Davis is in Sacramento, we're flying to Sacramento International Airport (SMF) for interview right?

I wonder if both the student and the faculty member are present at the committee meetings... That could present some scheduling challenges for sure... I'm kinda hoping it's just faculty, I think that I did better at that interview 🙂

yes

I doubt the student is present at the meeting. My student interviewer seemed to suggest that the student interview was very low-key, and it just seemed like a check we had to pass through to see if we would fit in.

On the contrary, I heard from current UC Davis students that the student interview counts for 50%. It's apparently just as heavy as the faculty interview.

This is my alma mater, for goodness sake. I'm been complete for almost 3 months. Any thoughts on getting a review so I can get an interview? The office isn't helpful at all.

Yeah, I've been complete since like early July. I'm guessing it's a silent rejection, as it seems like most of their interviews have been given out.

interesting. perhaps my interviewer was just trying to make sure I was relaxed.

Has ANYONE been waitlisted or rejected post interview yet?

I called Ed this am and left a voicemail. He emailed me back with this reply:

"Folks that were offered admission by the Admission Cmte. have been notified by phone. *The Cmte. is working on sending e-mail notifications to others as decisions are being made.*"

So I guess I'm hoping for waitlist spot now! I interviewed on 9/16. Congrats to those accepted and good luck to everyone.*

Perhaps this means they are deciding whether or not the non-accepted are waitlist or straight up rejection. Doesn't bode well b/c I remember Ed saying they don't form the waitlist until June or something ridiculous like that.

hard not to feel a little disheartened after seeing that. I wish they'd just send the waitlist/rejection and put us out of our misery already. Does that really take so long?

Pretty sure Davis doesn't do silent rejections, seeing as I just got one.

I don't like Sacramento very much anyway... 😎

Heh. No, pre-secondary. They really took their time about it too...
So, maybe they don't do post-interview rejections? I'm sure they're just taking their time trying to think of the most creative way to tell you you've been accepted. 😀

I think a pre-interview rejection would hurt much less here than a post-interview rejection, simply because virtually everyone who interviews at UCD seems to fall in love with it.

Pre-interview rejections hurt much less than post-interview rejections, period. Anywhere.

i agree cause pre interview i tell myself, "they rejeceted me because they did not really get to know me personally, i know i'm still awsome"

but post interview "they rejected me BECAUSE they got to know me personally 🙁"

Hey guys,

Thought I'd share some numbers, which Ed provided yesterday:

4500 applicants
400-450 interviewed (includes MD, MD/PhD, 60-70 are in MD/PRIME)
175-225 acceptances (includes MD, MD/PhD, MD/PRIME, and wait-list)
*Ed noted that very few from the wait-list are accepted
*Ed also noted that as of yesterday, UC Davis has ACCEPTED 12 TOTAL STUDENTS.

And I'm sure a lot of people who interviewed have mentioned these numbers, but I thought I'd put it all together:

Either last year or the year before, they matriculated 105 students: 12 MD/PRIME + 3 MD/PhD + 90 MD

This year, due to budget cuts, they are planning on matriculating 93 students: 12 MD/PRIME + 3 MD/PhD + 78 MD

Good luck, everyone!

Sighh.... Interviewed on 9/29 and still no news.

i was on 9/23..same no news. They did say 6-8 weeks at my interview though, so im still holding out hope, but the fact that 9/29 was accepted i am somewhat worried, but i dont think any of us should freak out when nobody really knows whats going on or how this works. All we really know at this point is all acceptances went out for people who interviewed on 9/16 or earlier.

Here's to you being right. 👍

So.. if by this time, we haven't gotten the interview invite.. we are probably rejected then huh?

theres still some dates left but its almost all over at this point for UCD. They dont plan to interview past feb and are currently scheduling feb interviews...so take that for what it is

pre secondary rejection just an hour ago. saw it on my cell phone during a huge dinner i was having with my family. such a mood killer.. 🙁

at least i still have the other 4 UCs :xf: (3 silent, UCSD secondary pending)

when you guys send thank you notes are you sending them to your faculty interviewer only or the student as well? how about the Dean since we had that meet the Dean session.

i only sent to faculty as i forgot to get my students email, truthfully it doesnt matter a TY note will never make or break you in the process. by the time they get your ty note they have probably already filled out their evaluations

i sent email thank yous to my faculty and student interviewer as well as the dean. i agree that it probably doesn't make or break your candidacy but it is the courteous professional thing to do after an interview. that said i know that a thoughtful post-interview thank you note has landed me at least one job in the past.

ditto. Not sure what's worse the rejection or sending getting it at 10pm Friday night. Such a weekend mood killer. 👎

I'm kinda confused about this whole process, maybe someone can fill me in.

Davis is my dream school, lets just make that clear...uhum anyway now...

I received my secondary october...10, and submitted it about a week later, but it took until october 22nd I believe for them to "Complete" it by downloading my letters and such...

now, if they are not planning on handing anymore interviews out, why would they send out secondaries??

this kills my mood and hopes for davis. are you guys sure they're not going to give out any more interviews? is there a way to know if my application has been reviewed by the committee? also, do they send out pre-interview rejections? (POST-secondary, that is.)

I hope someone can help me resolve these questionable issues that have came up for me.

i really just feel like crying right now. im really crossing my fingers for davis, its not just any other school for me since i live in the area with a lot of family obligations that prevent me from moving too much.

Well the direcotr of admissions on my interview day in sept said that they only plan to interview until feb, and now they are currently all filled up and handing out feb interview days...does that mean you wont get an interview? No it does not as there are still days left and who knows maybe they wont be able to fit the 400 or so people they want to interview in feb and will extend until march. While UCD may be your dream school thres no real point in worrying. You filled out your 2ndary now all you can do is wait. Until you get a rejection letter there is always a chance, its just at this point that chance isnt too great.

There's no way to know if your application's been reviewed or not since they don't make any notification until interview invite or rejection (rejection in March).

They are still handing out interview invites, just down to their latch batch of invites.
I got my invite 10/19, and the Feb dates (3,9,10,17,25) opened up for registration on 10/20. That means the Feb dates are only slowly being filled up since 10/20, and therefore not all gone.

I'm assuming there are 10-20 interviewees per day (correct me if I'm wrong), which means at least 50 interview spots are till available as of 10/20.

If they gave you a 2ndary invite this late in application season, then they think you're a strong candidate, as I imagine they'll be more stringent in sending out 2ndary invites since they can't interview many more.

So keep your hopes up. Also, people will decline interviews or acceptances, and they may interview more people then. So your chances are definitely smaller compared to people who applied early, but it's certainly not zero.

You're doing yourself a disfavor by applying this late. but be strong and reapply if you have to. Good luck!

Hmm... I wonder when I'll get my rejection notice, since they've already started to send them out... :luck:
