i applied her 2 years ago and got an interview, was waitlisted, then rejected. I really liked the school, and I am excited to get a secondary this year. Hopefully things will fair a little better in the end this time.
Hopefully🙂. Its changed a lot since you applied. Though i would like a change of scenery, id still love to be here for another 4 years, though it would be weird to do undergrad, med school, then residency at UCI lol.

I would get so sick of it. If Berkeley had a med school, I might not even have applied.

I'm like pretty much done. But scared of submitting. Maybe tomorrow.

For the section on Disadvantaged application, if we are not applying for disadvantaged, can I skip that section?

yep, its only for people like me who did put disadvantaged on the primary app. "

To be completed only by applicants that applied as "disadvantaged" on their AMCAS Application."

Did you have a 37 the year you were rejected?

So I got my e-mails acknowledging receipt of application and inviting me to fill out a secondary two minutes apart 🙄......

woot! Never mind. I submitted this bad boy tonight.😀

you have to write another disadvantaged essay for them?

For UCLA and UCI 2ndaries, there is a seperate disadvantaged form you must fill out. Its not essays just question like where did you grow up (inner city, gang area, rural, rented by family, owned by family, homeless, etc). how much did you and your parents/spouse make, how many dependants you have, income tax info, what languages are spoken in the home, education of parents, what jobs your parents work, etc etc...Just more info to truly see if you are disadvantaged, or just some kid who lived a normal middle class life with parents who made 30k a year or something.

you always submit so quick i feel pressure to submit faster!! 😛

so the 1st question, is that like a diversity/why are u special question? Its worded oddly i dont like it 🙁. Or did u guys go another route..

UCI is weird. . . last cycle they sent me a secondary in April or May I think (something SUPER late) after having my primary completed in July. Still no secondary yet for me this time around. . .

UCI usually ends up accepting people super late though, i think last year they didnt have too much wait list movement, but normally they have decent amount. i always hear stories of people who were liek accepted one day before class starts.

Are you guys picking and choosing which bio courses to put in the prerequisites section, since there don't seem to be enough boxes, especially for those of us initially on the quarter system who are converting to semester hours.

i am so confused about the LOR section. 😕

if we have a packet...do we only just list "packet from ..." and not the individual names of each writer?

and also, what is the difference between "Affiliation" and "Relationship?"

The institution that your LOR writer is in is affiliation. Relationship is your relationship to your LOR writer.

can someone please post the prompt? i didnt receive an invite to send secondaries, but it would be nice to hope and prewrite at least 1 of the essays 😛

They're probably not going to be a hardass about it. I filled up all the boxes and if you add them up semester or quarter units, they fulfill the requirements on their prereqs page. Shrug.

In evaluating applicants with a variety of backgrounds and strengths the Admissions Committee assesses each applicant as to what they can contribute to their class. Please describe to the Admissions Committee what you have to offer in this regard. (1,800 characters, with spaces).

Please describe to the Admissions Committee a challenge you have overcome and what you learned about yourself from that experience. (1,800 characters, with spaces).

Good luck everyone! 🙂

Ack, I'm sorry, I only posted the prompts that I answered. There are two more prompts-- one for disadvantaged applicants, and another for those who have already received their bachelor's degree. I submitted already and so I can't go back and access these. Can someone please post these for those that need them? Thank you!

theres no disadvantaged prompt.

Did you have a 37 the year you were rejected?

I did. My GPA was a little lower (~3.6 vs 3.7). I applied late. My primary was sent in in August, verified in September. My secondary wasn't complete until late november. Hopefully that played a part. Good luck!

So I submitted and payed last night, but according to the status page my secondary payment hasn't been received. Did the payment go through for those who payed?

you know I got the confirmation after I payed but nothing on my status page. Does your status page reflect your payment?

Yeah but it took me a few hours. It's been longer than that for you, I presume?

Mine reflects it now. maybe it took a while because I turned it in late at night.

Since they use AMCAS letter service, do I have to add anything the LoR page? should i put in my committee letter writer's name or just leave it all blank?

I was just curious as to what the general consensus is on the ranking of the UC's for medical training (not research). Currently I have heard 1.UCSF 2.UCLA 3.UCSD 4.UCD 5.UCI

thats the prestige rankings, which in general people relate to training. As far as training goes it would be somewhat subjective and hard to say since no one has experienced all 5 programs.

My list is like 1. UCLA 1. Irvine 1. UCSF 1. Davis 1. UCSD.

Why does Davis keep getting ranked above UCI? Have these people driven through these cities before? Academically, Davis is a solid school, but it's only scenery is the smog coming up over Sacramento. Meanwhile, UCI is literally ten minutes from the Pacific Ocean. You can study for Step I while watching the surf come in at any of twenty ridiculously beautiful beaches. At Davis, you can watch cows.

Location location location 😍

I rank Irvine above davis, but i think in general people tend to have a low opinion of UCI SOM, it doesnt help that its probably the least established med school also of the UC schools. Consdering its my alma matter, you know i love it 🙂. The campus is beautiful, theres everything here you could want in the area 😍. Not to mention that UCI is really trying to do a lot with the school to improve its "status" so to speak. They built a brand new amazing hospital just completed this year and there are tons of upgrades going on at the school also.

i hope that they look at the junk applications more thoroughly 😉

some of the buildings you do yrs 1-2 in arent all that great but its all lecture based and everything is podcasted so . Most of the campus is pretty beautiful though, its not like its all old and dilapidated. Theres also a lot of construction on the main med school campus now, im not sure what they are building exactly but they are trying to make everything nice 🙂. The 3-4 yr rotations are done in a brand new hospital that was just completed this year. I do my research there and let me tell you its amazing there. But the old UCI hospital wasnt all that great, so maybe thats where you heard it from.

lol they do dont worry 😉 UCI is really odd they will send out 2ndaries in like december.

If you had bothered to drive through, you'd notice that Davis med school is not in Davis. The medical campus is located in Sacramento, which is not where the cows are.

Sacramento is still a terrifically unexciting city. I mean, I haven't spent a lot of time there, but trying to find things to do there after hockey games was an exercise in futility. No matter, Irvine > Davis/Sacramento for location.

If any adcoms happen to be browsing this thread looking for reasons to reject people, let it be known that a terrifically unexciting city means that I will spend less time off-campus and more studying, which could potentially make me a better doctor. I'd be happy as a clam at Davis.

🙂

I'd be happier if the med center was in Davis, quite frankly. I love Davis. The greater Sacramento area? Not so much.

UCI is teh same way actually. The campus itself is in Irvine, while the medical center is in orange, which is about a 20-30 min drive from the irvine campus. UCI med center is actually right across the street from angels stadium if that means anything to anyone 🙂
