Does UCI accept additional LOR's? I'm in the alternate list (post-interview) right now and I was wondering if I can still send one from a significant activity.

Thanks for the input!

Absolutely send it in.

Awesome! thanks a lot guys! Hopefully we can all get into UCI! It would seem like a very fun class!

Anyway, last question, do I need to contact UCI to tell them in advance to expect a letter? Or does my letter writer just send them one directly?

Thanks again!

no need to contact them. They will figure it out. Make sure your letter writer has the email address (medadmit) and your full name and AMCAS id number and you are fine as long as they reference this. your letter write sends it to them directly.

I accidently sent the letter to somint and peterson. However, peterson email and thank me for my continue interest in uci som. I'm good to go right?

Yea you're good. 🙂 Good luck!

Anyone hear back from Feb 22 interview date?

Read what I wrote on the previous page. The committee is running behind schedule. I'm guessing we should (hopefully) hear in the next week or so.

If Feb 22 is taking this long, I may have to wait until July to know my fate at this pace.

checked status and found alternate list. Extremely saddened by the news. I don't know what to do?

I'm sorry to hear that. 🙁 I would send a letter of interest/update if you haven't already. If UCI is your first choice, you can try an LOI in May when the waitlist starts moving.

Also did you interview in March? If so, I'm just so puzzled by why it is taking so long to make a decision on some of the 2/22 people. 😕 Wicky and I are dying...

write a letter telling them exactly how you feel.

this was me exactly in december. i did what i just previously suggested, got accepted, and (barring any drastic changes in circumstances) will be attending in the fall. try it...you've got nothing to lose.

I'm wondering if I should send a LOI post-interview. I sent a letter of appeal when I was denied for an interview in the first place and that got me one in March. It was pretty much a LOI in itself (2 pages long). Should I send another one or is that overkill? Last Cali school standing makes it de-facto #1 in my book. :scared:

yes, early march. I am not sure why it is taking you guys longer. I hope it was not because they knew right off hand that they did not want to take me. that is odd. i thought i had a great faculty interview. we really hit it off, or at least I thought.

I think you interviewed the same day, but you have not heard anything yet?

Status said nothing and no emails (could've been sent to spam and deleted, which isn't the 1st time for a school this cycle).

Even though you had a great faculty interviewer, ultimately it's the committee that votes on you. I remember Dr. Peterson said the committee is made up of a clinician, a researcher, a student, etc.

send it!!!!!! Let them know of your continued interest. Seriously. I know people in my class that were in your exact situation last year and ended up getting in after sending in LOIs after initial rejection and after being waitlisted.

Good to know. You helped me get an interview in the first place too. So a big thank you again! 👍

I'll probably send one after I take the NREMT and include the result (hopefully good) as an update/LOI combo. I hope I have some time before their decision. Or should I not wait?

rejected post-secondary, finally. and with that, interview season is over after 5 months and 11 trips. woooooo

This decision has been killing me for weeks, but I have just opened up a spot at UCI and withdrew. UCI is such an awesome program. I really hope one of you SDNers or my best friend on the wait list gets it. Good luck to everyone!

UCI has been pretty good about notifying applicants in the order they interviewed, but it seems that since the early February interviews or so, their timing has been really thrown off (at least gauging from responses to this thread). I don't think hearing back earlier versus later is a reflection of the strength of your application. I'm sure your interview went very well, but like a previous poster stated, it's just a part of the whole pie.

Anyways, good luck. I know how nerve-wracking being on a waitlist can be, but UCI seems to respond well to letters, so if they are your first choice then definitely let them know.

Good luck at UCSF! :luck:

I'm not really sure, but I'd just say the sooner you get it in the better. From what other people have said on here, it looks like the waitlist is moving a little already. There is no "ranking" of any sort for the waitlist - they just pull people as others drop. So who knows, sending in the letter now may help you sooner. But if you are waiting for a big update, thats also important too....tough call. When do you get your results for the NREMT?

Ahhhhh!! I just got the call! I'm in!!! 😱

Can't believe it, I'm still shaking. Still waiting on UCLA, but at this point I'm 100% matriculating here. So happy. :biglove:

just got an acceptance call - interviewed 2/22 (for those who are wondering about timelines). good luck everyone!

Hey congrats! I interviewed on the same day. 🙂 Do you think you'll be matriculating?

Hey Elijah, thanks dude. You had way more confidence in me than I had in myself. Hmmm if I got into LA, I'd have to do some serious decision making. But regardless, I know I could be really happy at UCI too. I'm sure you feel kind of the same way with Davis? I still got my fingers crossed for you at LA and Irvine tho. :luck:

First week of May at the earliest. Then a lengthy process just to get the license but it's pretty much guaranteed since the NREMT's the hump to climb over.

Congrats!!!! 👍 I wish I could be waiting for my alma mater (UCLA) but I think 2 rejection letters pretty much nailed the coffin shut.

Congrats on all the acceptances! I hope you all choose UCI! Are any of you guys planning on coming to the revisit day on May 8th?

yes: it'll be nice to see the vibe of the incoming class, get a formal tour of the hospital, and hanging out with smart people is always fun 🙂.

I haven't had a decision yet post-interview so I dunno about waitlists. But I am sure I won't get the NREMT exam scores back until early May.

who is the person in charge of admissions,

Gayle pierce or Ellena peterson?

Anyone have their emails?

I am going to write a letter of intent, but is it possible to ask why one was waitlisted so that they can address it potentially in a letter or something of that matter or no?

Gayle is on a leave of absence. We were told to just address all correspondence to the admissions committee via the regular [email protected] email address.

And typically you can get feedback on your application only after the cycle is over. So since it's still ongoing, I don't think they are able or willing to discuss it.

Sigh, it is quite heart breaking to keep on looking at my alternate status...I really hope I get off the waitlist and get in...sigh minimoo goodluck

Aw, don't be down HomeMD. You still definitely have a shot! Gotta stay positive. I'll be sending big good luck vibes in your guys' direction! :luck::luck:

Decision Time: USC (Keck) or U C Irvine. Need the "student doctor" help!

Personally, I'd go with UCI all the way. I don't think there are any opportunities at Keck that you can't find at UCI. UCI is also over $20k a year cheaper for in-state residents. Also, even though I spent 4 years on the USC Health Sciences campus and got attached to the place, the neighborhood surrounding UCI >>>> USC. Another attraction for me is that UCI med school is part of the undergrad campus so you're going to get all of those perks that come with it -- huge variety of places to eat, a pub on-campus, awesome gym (ARC), etc. The USC campus has one small cafeteria, a bagel shop, and hospital cafeterias and that's it. Believe me when I say you get deathly sick of eating the same stuff everyday.

I was gonna be in this boat so I thought about it alot. First off both schools are great and have a lot to offer.

Money- I was gonna choose Irvine for $$$ reasons. The USC tuition is killer so Irvine wins by far.

Location: Irvine wins. Nice, safe, near the beach. I also like the idea of the mor centralized housing of students. Also a great distance from other places in the OC, LA, and San Diego.

Facilities: Irvine by far. New Med Student Building and Hospital. Keck is kinda old, but not bad

Curricculum: I think USC wins by far. They have the packet of info that is the only tested material. Systems based. Great support with ICM groups. Also getting to work at LAC Hospital sounds freaking amazing.

Campus Vibe: Tie, both have a lot to offer. Seems like both place effort to mak socializing easy. Irvine felt more "college" like to me, while USC seemed a little more mature. Both also have a lot to get involved in.

Both are close, but if money wasn't an issue, I woulda gone with USC because of the curriculum and LAC hosptial. But I think $$ usually talks and you should go with Irvine.
