Yea you can and you have to actually if you want funding. The due dates are before may 15 th you'll notice. Make sure you fill it out now🙂

I see they have a bunch of forms online but are there explicit instructions anywhere as to what I need by when and where to send it etc?

Thanks elijah

Any idea what constitutes extreme economic disadvantage? If not np just curious. I'd say I probably fall in that category but idk

no, sorry 🙁 I mean i dunno if they actually use the term "extremely." I just exaggerated it to express that they dont really give much aid unless you really really need it. "I dont want to take out loans" is not economically disadvantaged, haha. I mean just think about your life and how you grew up and the things you had and you should be able to answer if you were economically disadvantaged. Was there a heavy financial burden growing up that impacted how you lived? If no, then theres your answer.

Wasnt there are a box you could have checked when you filled out the primary? Or maybe the secondaries? If you want specifics about financial aid itd be best to just call and ask and they should be able to tell you their guidelines more specifically.

I am going to write a letter of intent, but is it possible to ask why one was waitlisted so that they can address it potentially in a letter or something of that matter or no?

USC! ranking and everything are a lot better.

Did you write that in your LOI?

...trying to get people to withdraw so you'll get in off the waitlist... that's pretty low

Just checked my voicemail and had that wonderful acceptance/congrats message from Dr. Peterson. Interviewed on Feb 22 and accepted 4/8.
:soexcited:

Congrats! Are you coming to the revisit day?

Jump to conclusions much?

😀 Just sayin. I'm following the USC and UCI threads, and I see this person posting in the UCI thread numerous times, recently getting a waitlist and asking about sending LOI's. And wrote in the USC thread like once last year...

Should i be worried that you are stalking me? But yes, I do want that person to go to USC, so I can get into UCI (it was kind of obvious the way I said it). There is nothing wrong with that, its not low... its more like sharing the wealth. It's a win-win situation in my opinion, except for someone wait listed at USC.

I agree with Nafis on this one...

Agree with what exactly? The scenario where everyone gets into their school of choice? Well, yeah, I would like that too... The douche move was giving someone who asked for advice a baseless and unsupported response so that you can take his seat (which was his admitted reason)

Trying to tell me that Nafis actually gave a rat about that person is a lol

Received the good news from Dr. Petersen on 4/16. Interviewed 3/8. I love UCI (my alma mater, current place of employment, etc etc) but I will most likely withdraw...probably not until beginning of May though, after I've had a chance to visit one more ASW elsewhere.

No, it was not a douche move. a douche move would be some other pre-med giving "advice" to someone, but twisting it to his own agenda...like a ton of the info given on SDN. I could have well wrote a whole essay with bullets on the different aspects of how USC was better, and that would have been a douche move. BUT, I did not. you never know who is on SDN.... it could be all the gunner pre-meds who give "advice" yet in college these were the same people that try to not help you study so they can get a better grade. Who knows.. but I was just being more honest. I don't know the person, but I am glad he got into a school. That being said. his question is asking which school should i go to when they are both excellent schools. And what RasheedMD agrees with is the "share the wealth" part I think. anyways, calm down. 😎

just got my fin aid award with a nice grant in it. think it made my decision between uci and case a bit easier. although i still haven't gotten a financial aid package from them.

but i wanted to ask if you guys have thought about your living situation? just talked to ryserr21 to get some insight (thanks man). what are the accepted students doing? on or off campus? are you guys thinking about looking for roommates at the revisit day?

I think some people have networked off Facebook to find roommates & housing. There's a Class of 2014 group already. I'll be living off-campus. Dogs and dorms do not mix. 😛

If you call the admissions office, do they let you know where you stand on the alternate list?

The alternate list is unranked, although I'm sure they use some kind of undisclosed internal ranking system. Since everyone that isn't accepted is waitlisted, I doubt they re-review everyone in the process of pulling people off the list.

nope its "unranked" though like all schools im sure they have their favorites and those who will likely never get in. they will say its unrranked and to wait

🙁 *sigh* Oh well, I guess I'm going to have to make my plans for the rest of the year under the assumption I don't get in anywhere after all.

Some cool news about curriculum at UCI...we just had a Dean's hour today that discussed H/P/F and the possibility of it changing to P/F for the 2nd year as well and also the possibility of completely getting rid of the ranking system for the first two years all together......

From what it sounds like its pretty much locked up that 1st and 2nd year will both be P/F. It also looks as tho the ranking system will be thrown out all together for the first two years. This depends on our class vote. They said that whatever we wanted we could have we just had to poll the class and vote. Through word of mouth and talking to people it seems as tho most are on board with throwing out the 'ranking' system, so unless something unexpected happens, thats how it should go down. Pretty sweet.

Stop making me want to go to UCI even more than I do now! :boom:

🙁 That's probably a smart idea. But there is still hope, so chin up! May 15th is almost here.

What is the ranking system, exactly?

Second this question. From my interview day, I was under the impression that students weren't really ranked?

They aren't really, thats why i put it in quote. The whole 'ranking' system is kind of stupid. Its not a rank in the sense of 1-104. Previously, we have been grouped in to quartiles.

So it was, top 10, 10-30, 31-97, and 97-100.

The way the years broke down was your courses in first year counted for 20% of this overall ranking, second year courses counted for 20%, and third year for 60%.

Nowhere would it say what quartile you fell in to, but depending on where you fell, the Dean's letter would use a certain adjective to describe you like "This person performed excellent" or "This person performed well" or something like that.

This should all be out the window tho. Regardless, the ranking system is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of getting in to a residency. For 99% of people it simply won't matter. A lot of people for some reason feel like if we had a ranking system it would be the end of the world and the class would break out in to bitter competition...I disagree. That being said, I'd still vote for a non-ranking system.

Soooo after getting all of my post-interview results (finally), I'm pretty much 100% certain I'll be attending here next year. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to choose between some awesome schools. Looking forward to second look and meeting some of y'all! :biglove:

Also... has anyone who RSVP'd for revisit day received a confirmation or any additional info? It's only like a week away, so I'm wondering if I should've heard something by now.

Nope nothing. But, see you then!

No mini I just saw the ucla thread sorry🙁. But at least you know where you'll end up, wish I could say the same 🙂. I kinda want to go to revisit day. Since I still live basically on campus maybe I'll just show up haha😛

No sorries needed. 🙂 If I was going to get the boot by a school, at least it was an awesome school! And this actually makes my life 100% easier. I have lots of personal reasons as well as a large monetary incentive to stick with UCI. And if UCLA had accepted me, I would've had to make one of those annoying "UCI vs UCLA" threads. 😛

Seriously, you should just stop by! 😀

hi y'all know if people from the WL will be called and status page updated? Ryster?

They for sure call for notification of an acceptance, whether its off the waitlist or not. Im not sure about the status page, but I imagine you would get the call before the status page changed. Just my guess though.

When is the first day for the incoming class?

Pretty certain orientation starts sometime in the first week of August. At least that's how its been in years past. If I find out the exact day during second look, I'll post it here.

Did you end up getting off the alternate list? If so, congrats! 🙂

Haha, no not yet! But staying positive! Ok let me know!

not that it matters much i guess but just withdrew my app 🙂. I wasnt accepted but on the WL. So i guess one less person to compete with after may 15th? haha good luck guys.

Did you decide on Davis?? best of luck to you 🙂

When is the first day for the incoming class?

I can't find where I read it but I think orientation is August 6 with the white coat ceremony that weekend (Aug 6 = Friday, white coat I think happens on the Saturday).

Good luck wherever you end up. 🙂 I will likely similarly withdraw from LA soon.

But that would make orientation only a 1 day affair? I thought usually orientation was carried out over the course of a few days.

if i remember correctly, we started orientation on a Friday, then had white coat on Saturday.....then more orientation stuff on Monday and maybe Tuesday, and school started on a wednesday.

Hey everyone,

So I posted this on the UCI site as well....but I need some help deciding between UCI and UCD. Let me know if you guys have any pros or cons that aren't only restricted to curriculum and academics, but also to lifestyle, student coherence, and location. I'd really appreciate any input.

Thanks
