Does anyone know a little more about the mini problem based learning exercise on interview day that U Conn mentions on their website?

8/10 I received an interview notification for October - good luck to everyone with their upcoming interviews

I'm sorry if this is ridiculous, but do you have to mail in a hard copy in addition to the email copies? I've done so many applications I'm starting to lose it :scared:

yeah, that's what the MS Word file says.

Do you know if it's OK if I send in the email w/ attachment before the 4 week deadline, but the hard mail via snail mail..arrives 1 or 2 days later? Just cuz I'm from Canada and it takes a while...

Also, for anyone that got an interview, what kind of issues did you talk about that the medical professions will face in the future?

Hey for those who has gotten an interview, when did you submit your secondary? I'm scared.. lol

-ignore me... wrong thread.. ^_^'

I am already in love with this school. Dr. Sanford himself called me to schedule interview dates. Do they do this every cycle? That's novel, given the number of people interviewed...Hmm

I am a Canadian student (deadline for 4 weeks is tomorrow) and I just realized that it says on the website that international students can't pay online and that I have to submit by check.

Anyone from Canada manage to do online??

Any International Applicants here? How did you guys fill out the payment thing when it asks for State and Zip code? It won't let me put anything not in the US.

My primary was approved 8/17 but I still haven't gotten any secondary email from UConn. Is it taking so long for anyone else?

Also, can someone post the essay prompts?

That's awesome archimed! When's your interview if I may ask?

Just got an interview invite for October. It actually came with the "file complete email". Submitted secondary about a week ago. Wonder what my chances are from here?

Just got an invite today for November. I am an OOS student. I live in Mass. Good luck to all those interviewing in September. Please let us know how the PBL exercise goes.

I am OOS by the way (RI) but i've heard that UConn looks favorably on applicant's from RI since it has no state med school and is a neighboring state.

From what I understand (after reading interview feedback), the PBL exercise is not intended as a test or form of evaluation. I think that its just to give applicants a feel for the educational approach at UConn.

Yes, they don't expect us to know too much detail since we are just pre-meds. Its not a test

Interview September 18th

OOS (Rhode Island); 4.0; 37T

I love how personal they make the whole application process. Is there anyone who is familiar with the school as well? Are the teachers as accessible as Dr. Sanford?

hey , for the "What do you see as the most significant issue the medical profession will face in the future?" prompt, do you thik its a reach to talk about superbugs + infection control ? its not DIRECTLY affecting the medical profession, but it is sort of realted....do you think its okay to talk about this ? im kind of lost as too waht to talk aboutt

..wouldn't that be a "current" and ongoing issue?

on the other hand, has anyone gotten the complete email who applied MD/PhD, and submitted their app around 08/25? I'm starting to get worried that they've lost my app..

well what if i said something like, an issue that people in the field must become much more aware of are superbugs ....and the possibilty of pandemics blahblah ?

still, is that a reacH?

(bah i dont wnat to talk about health care reforms >.<)

On hold... At least it's not a total rejection. I just wish I knew what my chances were with that.

I'd actually advise against that... most physicians would agree that health care reform and rising costs are the most significant issues facing not only healthcare professionals but also the country as a whole. It would be in your interest to understand these issues in some detail.

still waiting on a secondary - how long after primary verified did you get one from UofC? thanks all.

For those who have interviewed or have a date, how long before your interview date did UConn get ahold of you? I got the interview invite email for an October interview window and it said 3 weeks before. I'm hoping I can pull of scheduling this interview with one in Boston and avoid flying completely across America twice in one month.

Hey..I applied this cycle for Uconn...I have yet to be have my primary verified..hopefully within the next 2 weeks..my LORs should be completed this week..
my stats are really low unfortunately..
cGPA- 3.36

I am a Connecticut resident, with decent ECs

any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Should I even waste my time doing this school?

I have 3.8/34R but OOS (Arizona), do I have any chance?

hmmm... I'm still waiting for the secondary... should I email?! Congrats to all the interview invitees on here! Hopefully they'll show a few OOSers some love... at least give me a secondary! hehe

Invite in september! completed 9/14/09 =)

sGPA: 3.8
oGPA: 3.74
MCAT: 32R

so excited!

Are you saying that you received your interview invitation on the same day that you received the "complete" email? Are you IS or OOS?

Yes email/call them, because Dr. Sanford is usually really fast, but one of my emails ended up in his junk pile and didn't get to him for 3 weeks. Def. contact them to see whats up

Sorry about the hold.... 🙁 How long after being complete are people getting interviews/holds?

It is usually very fast, altho I think they are slowing down a bit now tho

Yes, I got the invite with my complete email. I think when Dr. Sanford sends the e-mail, a preliminary review has already been done. I think other people have been saying this as well on the forum. Could someone else confirm?

I'm IS

Good luck everyone!!🙂

QUESTION: How long does it usually take for Dr. Sanford to contact you to schedule the interview after you've been invited ?

what is the history of people with holds getting interviews? if anyone happens to know

has anyone gotten the complete email who applied MD/PhD, and submitted their app around 08/25? I'm starting to get worried that they've lost my app..

Wow that had to have been awesome to get them both at the same time. Talk about a quick turnaround! Congrats!

I just e-mailed asking about the hold status, whether it is what they send everyone right now or if it actually means something

I'm guessing it actually means something since people are getting interview invites.

But could you PM me whatever response you get? I'm on hold as well and I'd be interested in what they tell you.

Yeah definitely 👍

Could you actually just post the reply here, I'm on hold too! And I'm sure a lot of us here are as well.

Sorry about that.

The response I was PM'ed was:

."There are quite a number of candidates that are eventually requested for interview. Regards, Keat s".

That seems like a pretty generic response.. but I guess it means don't lose hope! :xf:

Quick question-does this school screen for secondaries? I added this school on 9/11, about a week and a half ago, and still no secondary?

They didn't lose it, I work with some ppl that are on the committee, they are just getting started, the first batch of interviewees (Very high stats) come next week.

A lot of ppl get interviewed in Jan-March. and get accepted. And last year their waitlist moved to within 2 spots of the middle third waitlisted. So you def. shouldn't lose hope

No they do not screen, but apparently they are swamped, and the lady who organizes them was on vac. last week.
