does anyone know where online i can find the latest match list for uconn? thanks

looks like UConn Med will be getting a facelift:

http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/health/State-Announces-New-325M-Health-Partnership--87116292.html

All sounds good to me! Thoughts?

:luck::luck: Best of luck to those still waiting! :luck::luck:

Ya, it sounds pretty exciting, I missed the Governor's talk here at UCHC but it seems like by the time we graduate Uconn will be moving upward, I was kind of concerned with Uconn med and the hospital because they have been trying to get something done for so long and haven't been able to. Now I am kind of relieved

Altho, only if we get the 100 mils from the government, which 6 other institutions in the country are qualified for, so we will see I guess.

Hey - I know I might be in a small minority, but I was wondering if it was ok to bring spouses to second look weekend?

does anyone know where online i can find the latest match list for uconn? thanks

Hey Eeyore. They gave us a copy of UConn's Match List during the interview. I do not have the time to type the entire thing out so I'll list how many people went into each specialty and a couple notable places some students placed.

2009 Match List
Anesthesiology: 7 people; UConn, Mt Sinai NYP Hosp (Cornell), UVA
Derm: 1 person
Emergency Medicine: 2 people; Yale and BI Deaconess med Cnt
Family Medicine: 7 people; UConn, University of Rochester, UVA
General Surgery- Preliminary: 3 people; UConnx2 Brown
General Surgery: 4 people; NYU, UConn
Internal Medicine: 10 people; Yale, Baystate (Tufts), UConn, Mass General, U Mich, Duke
Medicine-Pediatrics: 2 people; U Rochester and Brown
Medicine-preliminary: 2 people; Yale and UConn
Medicine-primary: 2 people; U Wash and Yale
Neurology: 3 people; Johns Hopkins, Tufts and University of Rochester
OBGYN: 6 people; UConn, Brown, North Shore
OMFS: 2 people; UConn x2
Orthopaedic Surgery: 2 people
Otolaryngology: 2 people; BU and Tufts
Pediatrics: 10 people: UConn x4 Yalex3, Maine Medical Center, Brown, Oregon
Phys Medicine and Rehab: 1 person; VCU
Plastic Surgery: 1 person; UMass
Psychiatry: 2 people; Hartford Hospital and UNorth Carolina
Radiology-Diagnostic: 4 people; UConn, Einstein
Surgery-urology: 1 person UPMC (UPitt)

Overall I think the residency placements are very impressive. I think the 2006 match list is up somewhere on SDN as well. I also remember on my interview the Dean telling us that anesthesiology is a popular specialty at UConn because the teachers are exceptional. I hope this helps.

For those recently accepted, about how long did it take you to receive your letter/email?

still no ophtho matches =( can someone explain to me if OMFS (Oral and maxillofacial surgery) residency is for the med students or dental students? i thought this was a dental specialty that could only pursued with a DDS/DMD.

forgot to say... THANKS ziggydoc!

In short, the answer is "yes." OMFS requires 6 years of school prior to residency... either four of dental and two of medical or vice versa. Typically, those who started out as dental students end up going into OMFS, but every once in a while a someone who started as a medical student will do so as well. But in both cases, those who went into the residency had both MD and DMD training. One of the advantages of UConn is that the medical and dental students take their first two years of classes together, so there is a lot of opportunity to pursue things like OMFS.

ok, from what i understood previously from my research when i was very interested in the MD/DMD program that case western offers is that to do OMFS you had to have a dental degree (DMD or DDS) and then apply for a 4-6 yr residency... 4yrs residency will lead to specializing without ever getting an MD, while a 6yr residency will lead to specializing while earning u an MD at the same. i dont think ive ever heard of MD students applying for that residency hoping to get a DDS or DMD in residency. youre making it sound that these OMFS students already have a MD and a DDS/DMD before starting their residency... doesnt sound right to me, but maybe im wrong.

i guess i'll just worry about such details after i get accepted and choose to consider that route.

so am i safe to assume that not hearing anything for 6 weeks isn't good?

I emailed Dr. Sanford and he said that the January/February group should hear back at the end of March. However, I've also heard that ~170 offers are already given out.

I completed my app in October and was offered an interview Oct. 28, but for some reason I wasn't given an interview date until January 22nd. I have pretty high stats and some decent shadowing, plus some interesting jobs throughout college. I felt that my stats were good enough to get into UConn, but maybe it's a super competitive class this year due to the economy and such.

So basically, UConn gave away all (or almost all) of its spots very early, and we are stuck fighting over the leftovers. But it's a state institution, so maybe there will be lots of withdrawals as super-premeds get into better schools.

Forgive me if I am being intrusive, but where did you get the information about the class size?

im curious to know where he got his info too.... i interviewed this month and one of the admin guys (not sanford) told me specifically that the class isnt full... he even went as far as to say something absurd like we (the group interviewing sooo late in march) had a "better" chance of being accepted. he didnt go into details and i didnt want to call him out for being a liar, so i didnt ask wtf he was talkin about. but i would surely take it as a slap in the face if the class is indeed full.

I would listen to Dr. Sanford. He's a great guy and I know he would never lie to you guys. Others, including myself, have found him to be very helpful along the way.

I feel this can safely be said. They most likely have offered more spots for the entering MD class than available, however, they KNOW not everyone will attend. AKA meaning a school like UConn may in fact give out a 170 spots for the entire year, but I doubt they've done that already. I believe UConn interviews around 400 kids from over 3k applicants. I would find it a bit odd if 3/4ths to 2/3rds of the students from Sept-Dec was accepted. On second look weekend a lot of students said they were the only kids from their interview group (so that's 7-8 kids). So I really think a 170 is a bit high and more acceptances are sure to be offered.

I know three people who interviewed in the Jan-Feb range and are attending UConn now so do not worry.

At best, call the admissions office to see where you are. They would not interview you unless they had the intention to accept you.

I do research at the med school and have lots of connections to it, so I think my info is fairly accurate. I heard it from a professor I'm close to...

I'm pretty steamed, to say the least. If they're not going to give us a fighting chance, why waste our time?

Oh well, we'll see what happens in the coming weeks. Maybe I'm just being a crazy paranoid pre-med.

Has anyone heard about Financial Aid yet? Should we already have done the Fafsa? Does anyone know anything about the process or the time line to apply?

It's all due on April 16th. Should've come in an email if you're accepted.

Is "high alternative" status just a fancy word for waiting list? Thanks.

Is "high alternative" status just a fancy word for waiting list? Thanks.

when / where did you receive that status? when did you interview? i recently interviewed a few weeks back and im still waiting to hear back. i wonder if they have different alternate lists, ie "high alternate" vs "alternate" and if their alternate lists are ranked

alternate lists ARE ranked. Once they have below 80 (or however many students they expect to matriculate) actually set on going to UConn after May 15th (the deadline), they'll start pulling off students the high waitlist, then middle, then low. Typically they go through a good chunk of the high waitlist but I haven't heard of years (at least in the past couple) when they've gone into the middle or the low waitlists.

got put onto the high waitlist, found out this morning via e-mail. Interviewed in November

I can clarify this for you.

There are three lists one can be put on. High alternative, middle alternative and low alternative list. This list is UConn's wait list, but it gives you a better sense as to where you will be in the entering class. In past years the high alternates usually all get pulled for the entering class and a few/some middle alternates. However, due to the increased applicants, not all the high alternates were accepted last year.

Every year is different and its impossible to definitively tell if one will be accepted or not. Traditionally, if you are in the high alternate list you should be somewhat confident you'll attend next year.

wtf?! you interviewed in november and today was the first time u heard anything from them?! i was under the impression that they had a ~6-8 week wait time, although i did notice that a few people were accepted in less than two weeks post-interview.

middle alternate for me..any chance of my relationship with UCONN working out? lol

haha, today wasn't the first time. I heard back about being waitlisted in January, and then they told me that I won't know where on the waitlist I will be until March.

since they waited till today to start telling people where they stand on the waitlists, should we assume all interviews are done and all the waitlists are finalized? has anyone who interviewed in march received any waitlist emails today? also, im curious to know if they have rejected anyone post-interview?

High alternate list for me. If I don't hear anything by graduation (May 9), I'll start working on next year's application to submit immediately in June.

For those who received high alternate status, what date does the email say you should wait for in order to ask about your chances of getting in?

In general, what did UConn officially tell you in your letter (or could someone post the contents of the letter if you don't mind 🙂)?

Wait at least until May 20th. On May 15th, people with multiple acceptances need to choose 1 school to attend. That day falls on a Saturday, so I'd expect movement by at least May 20th. There is very little chance movement will occur before May 9th, or at least significant movement.

Best of luck.

Rejected today via email. First I have heard since interviewing in November so I was never officially on hold. Just want to let people know they are sending out rejections and not waitlisting everybody!

Good luck!

Just got the call today!! Uconn MD/PhD here I come!!! The waiting is FINALLY over!

eey0re, yes people who have interviewed in march received waitlist emails....they are also rejecting applicants post-interview, just not sure at what rate.....................

Cancer p53, did your status ever change to high alternate status?

Not really sure, I haven't ever checked my status. I did get the e-mail from Keat Sanford last week if that's what you're referring to, but I'm technically still on the high alternate status for MD since MD/PhD is separate.

yup, that's what i meant. earlier in the chat you got a waitlist email and i was wondering if you got another email saying your specific status on the waitlist.

i'm sure you are off the high alternate list for MD since you got into MD/PhD

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

thanks se7en! so if i interviewed in mid-march and i havent heard back yet, should i be worried? and correct me if im wrong, but it seems that waitlist and rejections come via email and acceptances come via snail mail (or phone call for md/phd)?

Hey eey0re. Just wait it out a bit longer. See if someone from the same interview time has heard back already. If so, then I'd call.
You are correct about how you will be notified (I am not sure about MD/PhD), however, it might all be a phone call for acceptances once the May 15th date approaches.

Keep your head up and good luck.

np! I interviewed in early March and heard back, but I may have been lumped in with the February group for feedback so no worries. Like FutureMDer said...I suggest waiting a little bit longer before getting anxious.

I am not sure about MD/PhD either (I think you guys are in a different category). The important thing is to remain positive throughout the whole process...it helps a lot 🙂

I was accepted before Christmas. I received the acceptance letter in the mail. I sent in my deposit. Then nothing. I looked up the finaid and sent it in. Am I suposed to send in a formal document saying I am going there? Is there a special form? Does this form come with the aid package? Has anyone gotten an aid package? Confused..................

The form does not come with a FA package. That is sent via e-mail - it's a packet that you print out. If I were you, I would e-mail the FA Office.
Also, not sure if you had this at the very bottom of your letter (I had it on mine) but they also request a current photograph (e-mailed or mailed) and a letter to Dr. Sanford saying that you have accepted their offer and will be attending.
Hope this helps.

Thanks PlayHockey247. I am still confused. Is there a form they send us that we have to fill out saying we accept their offer or do we just write an acceptance letter to Dr. Sanford? And............if there is a special form, where do we get it? Mail? Email? Website?

has anyone else had a hard time gettin hold of admin at uconn med? ive been callin all week and even left a couple of voicemails on different machines at the beginning of the week and never got a call back. anyone still waiting to hear back from their interview in march??

Tara, I am surprised you have not heard anything. If I were you I'd contact ADCOM ASAP to make sure that you are still considered accepted. After being accepted you had to pay 100 dollars off of paypal, write a letter saying you will accept the offer and email/snail mail them a photograph. After that, I received 1-2 emails about financial aid, second look weekend and a summer research program opportunity.

The deadline for financial aid has past. According to what my email said all documents were due April 16th. I would 100% call Financial Aid asap because you might be in trouble otherwise. I'd even consider stopping by personally to talk with admissions to make sure they consider you an accepted student. It sometimes is difficult to contact them via email or phone, so this might be your best shot.

Best of luck.

Really?? I can't possibly imagine that there is an absolute deadline. What if a student were accepted off the wait list post April 16th? That might hold true for current students, but probably not so much incoming students.

There is also no way that a student who paid their $100 on paypal would be unaccepted because that money holds your spot until you absolutely decide to go there. As long as you aren't holding other spots after May 15th you can hold it all summer long potentially. So I say relax, it's all fine, you will still be going to Uconn in August and will not be denied financial aid. No one could possibly afford to go without financial aid. The worst I could imagine is that you would need to take more loans because the grant/scholarship funding will have run out.

Stopping by to absolutely clear these issues up might save your sanity though.

No problem. There is no form - the acceptance letter explained what you had to do - you had to write him a letter on your own saying that you accepted their offer. You paid your $100, though, so it's probably not an issue.
At this point I would just call them to ask about financial aid - I'm surprised you didn't get the e-mail from the FA office. It is true that the deadline was April 16, but I agree with p53 that there have to be other allowances.

I figure UConn is done with interviews or very close to being done. Did they send out a batch of rejections to pre-interview holds that I missed? If so, were these through email or snail mail?
