No, I live in Chicago, I'm just going to stroll in at 11am. You should call them and ask if they do student hosting (they don't mind people calling them on other days of the week so long as your question isn't about your app status).

eh I'm from Chicago too (just go to school somewhere else this yr) I was just wondering really...I live right by soldier field so it's just a 10 minute drive for me myself.

Seems a hassle to inconvenience a med student if I live a few minutes away... Sleeping on the couch or on an air mattress is no fun anyway. I had actually just hosted a student for my undergrad a week ago, she got the air mattress. 😀

i apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but i'm a little confused about the interview process at u of i. if you interview at a certain location, say peoria, does that mean that you're interviewing for only a position at the peoria campus and will not be considered anywhere else (rockford, chicago)? or does it not matter which location you choose?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter at all which location you choose, you have to fill out a preference card later assigning campus location priority.

thanks for the info, womp!

oh really? then how do you schedule the dates?

you have to call them to do that. Make sure you do it asap, dates fill up really quickly especially at the Chicago campus apparently. Within 2 days of the getting the invite this week it looks like all the Chicago slots for the dates I had available were taken.

Dang! I got mine today on Saturday...guess I won't be staying with a brother on the cheap in Chicago...Nice how it looks and even reads like a rejection letter through the first sentence or so...mind games!

Are there still dates available for Chicago in October? If not, when is the earliest date available in Chicago?
...Rockford as well? lol

When I reserved my date they only had Rockford available but you never know maybe some new spots opened up for Chicago....

Any one know about driving from Chicago to Rockford... morning traffic conditions etc..

My friend just got an invite the other day and they told her Chicago was all full but Rockford was the only location available...since she's oos it would be pretty difficult to get to Rockford so they told her to keep checking back every other day (but wouldn't tell her when more dates would be available)...they also mentioned that you have 2 weeks from the time you get the invite to schedule.

I scheduled my interview the day after my invite for Chicago and by the next day I think all Chicago spots were full and Peoria was the only other option

Never been to Rockford but it's not terribly close...the admissions office told my friend it's only "an hour cab drive from Ohare" (maybe if your cabbie drives 80mph w/ no traffic)- From my house downtown it's about 90 miles. There is traffic going both ways in the mornings on I90 at least (the direction to Ohare...and Rockford)...unless you leave before 7. I've had many early morning flights from Ohare that I either barely made or missed due to morning traffic leaving the city. I think traffic starts to ease up once you get to the Ohare area...so if you're driving from Ohare (not Chicago) you might not encounter much traffic.

I never received the interview packet and am interviewing on Friday. Can anyone tell me if there was anything especially important in the packet? Anything other than what I can find online?

Thank you

It's not really a packet ... just a small letter informing you of your interview date/time as well as a website for directions to the campus. Ergo, you're not missing much.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks macduke09, never been to Rockford myself, I guess I'll just leave a lot earlier than I planned to.

How long does it usually take to become an "applicant in progress"? I've been complete since 8/13, no change in status at all.

man, ive had the applicant in progress for weeks now....

nothing but crickets from them

IS too!

for those of you who have received an interview invite, do you get an email saying that you've been invited for an interview, or do you continuously have to keep checking the status page?

aww everyone is sad about going to rockford! i would love to go there. it is an hour from my inlaws house. chicago scares me:scared:, rockford is awesome!

You don't get an email, you get a USPS letter.

Keep checking it continuously! I got my invite on Monday or Tuesday and didn't get the letter in the mail until Friday or Saturday (currently oos but I am an is applicant). I scheduled my interview the next day...all the openings listed online at the time I got the invite were gone w/n 2 days (except peoria).

Well it took them about a week to actually download my letters...then after that I think it took me almost 2 weeks at application in progress until I got changed, and then after the switch maybe a little less than 2 weeks before the invite

I actually got an email AND a letter. However, these came to me a while after my status notified me of the invite. Hence, you will want to check your status often. (The "Applicant Status Check" is currently a bookmarked tab on my computer).

This makes me nervous--like they accidentally deleted my file or something. (Went to UIC for part of my undergrad, and I wouldn't put something like this past them.)

When were you complete, macduke?

Where are you guys checking the status? It's not just the secondary page because all I get is ' Your Application has been successfully submitted. Although you may still view your application, no further changes will be allowed.' Could someone maybe post the link online? I'd really appreciate it, Thanks!

I was complete August 19...letters downloaded on the 27th, but I took the July 30 MCAT so my scores weren't in until the 1st or so...I got the invite on the 22nd

Just got "Applicant in process," complete 8/28. Here's hoping for an interview invite before my birthday (mid Oct). :luck:

can we add extra letters beyond the three required letters?

grrrrr....complete on July 27th and crickets 🙁

:smack:

Yes, they will have all the letters you send to AMCAS on file.

Complete early September. Just got to Applicant in Process.

Seriously? I've been complete since 8/13 and am still an "application" in progress.

Anyone know if we can call for a status check?

Seems like it depends. Just have to play the waiting game.

Anyone have any good interview recommendations for UIC? Is there a lot of grilling or is it more conversational? Are the interviews at the Chicago campus still closed file? Do the three interviewers pretty much ask the same questions or do they sort of concentrate on one area?

I don't have any answers lol...but are you interviewing on friday?

2 were very conversational for me and one of them kind of grilled me on healthcare, but he was a good guy and fair. I knew my stuff and held my ground and we were smiling by the end. No worries! Very fun day!
