Interview invite...yayyy, so excited!!!

And to those who have been applicant in progress for a while...I became applicant in progress sometime in August, went back to application is in process, then returned to applicant in progress for a good three weeks...and just now received my interview invite.

Moral of the story...there is definitely hope for those of you who have been waiting for a bit. 🙂 Good luck to all!

sorry for the delay, elizalandry...i received the invite late yesterday afternoon sometime (wasn't up in the morning, but i checked around 4:30pm or so, the interview scheduling page appeared)...i know the status page goes under maintenance around 5pm, but seems like it's up and running as of this morning...best of luck to you and ruiner! and congrats MaryLennox!

Congrats! 😀 When were you able to schedule your interview?

10/22, AM. they were already filled up for afternoon so i will have to miss class in the AM (yeah right, who am i kidding. i would have skipped it anyway because it's cadavers and i didnt want to risk the smell . . . even with showering it is potent . . . ) anyway i am glad i was able to get one in chicago

mine has said application in process since 7/30, should I call?

mine has said application in process since 7/30, should I call?

Mine has been an application in process since 8/13, so I called on Monday to see what was up. All the admissions office could tell me was that they have my completed application. I asked if it had been reviewed and they said they couldn't tell from whatever they were looking at. So it might be worth the call just to make sure it's there, but you won't be able to find out any more information.

i was complete 8/5 and didn't get "applicant" until 9/22, and i just got the invite today. also i am in-state. so i dont know if that means anything moves faster or not. but yeah it does seem like its been a while for you . . .

Does anyone know the

applicant number/ interview offer/ acceptance made numbers for UIC.

Sorry if someone already posted this info

Good luck everyone :luck::luck::luck:

UW? nothing yet. but, all my mail is going to my parent's house, and I think my mom is holding out on telling me about rejections. she sat on my Vandy one for more than a week! i told her to stop doing it but i dont know if she can be trusted. lol. so its quite possible i have been rejected there and just dont know it yet.

are you in the morning or afternoon for UIC? send me a message!

I think I've been an "applicant in progress" since I was complete around September 2 after I called and they checked me complete on phone. Although the first page now says "Information Received From AMCAS as of 09/25/2009" as the header of the grid and this hasn't changed and it's now 2 weeks later. Anyone know what this is about? My AMCAS was submitted verified in June and my application complete on Sept. 2 when I spoke to them on the phone and my LOR is listed as received 9/2...Did I not become an applicant in progress until 9/25?

Anyone have any good interview recommendations for UIC? Is there a lot of grilling or is it more conversational? Are the interviews at the Chicago campus still closed file? Do the three interviewers pretty much ask the same questions or do they sort of concentrate on one area?

The interview day is quite laid back. Just be professional and nice, don't forget to smile. If you are asked about healthcare, don't get overly one-sided or political, just be knowledgeable. Know yourself very well, give examples to characteristic-type questions to help you stand out. I feel UIC is one place where the interview is important but your stats coming into the interview are still the defining factor of whether or not you will be granted acceptance. This means if you are a borderline candidate, a great interview will help your case, but your stats are going to seal the deal. The scenario is different at other schools and you will all notice this along the way. Currently a student here, so hopefully this insider info helps.

everytime i ask for a counselor on thursdays they are either at lunch or unavailable and then when i do get a hold of them they always say that it is going to take a little longer. I have been complete since august and I called them today to check my status and they told me my file hasn't even gone through the first screening yet cause they have so many applicants. I understand they have alot of applicants, but at some point in my 8 weeks that I have been complete it should be my chance at a screening....sorry about the rant but im getting pretty impatient. Has anybody else been this long without a look??

I have been complete since July and havn't heard anything, one way or the other, while I've had interviews at other schools and rejections at some too. So all you can do is wait. Inpatience is understandable but there's no point in getting mad.

Have any of you that interviewed at the Chicago campus stayed with a student host? How was it?

Hey man!
I got an invite a while back but I heard that student hosting was not available so I decided to withdraw. Plus OS tuition here is ridiculously high, haha. Hope everything's going well with you.

So are you implying that if we had a terrible MCAT score, yet were granted an interview, the interview wouldn't even matter? 😱 Or, rather, are you suggesting that someone who had a bad interview yet had a high MCAT score/GPA would still get accepted while an individual with a low MCAT score and/or GPA would only get accepted if they had a stellar interview?

I was reading through this entire thread and I just realized how big of an idiot I am. I assumed the third essay "disadvantage/advantages" prompt was optional and did not write anything. Zip, can you tell you tell me if I'm majorly screwed? Are they not even going to consider my application due to my stupid mistake? 🙁

I'm majorly bummed. This was my top choice school and I really want an interview badly from there. My status has been "Application in Process" since 8/27 w/o any changes, and I'm assuming it might be due to my utter stupidity.

Not necessarily, it depends how you describe what a "horrible score is" I think 28+ is certainly okay, and if you are below a 30, a high GPA will help your case. In terms of a high MCAT/GPA and a poor interview compared to someone who had lower stats with a stellar interview, that's very hard to say. I was just commenting on how there have been people who have had stellar interviews and average stats who have got pushed back in the pile for review and have not been granted admission to later points in time. I also think UIC is one place where interviewing early will dramatically improve your chances, as many of the spring interview spots are for just a few openings or waitlist spots. Early interview, great interview, and stats up to par should put you in a decent spot regardless. And yes it it is true that Chicago campus initially fills up by January, but spots trickle open as people commit to other programs during the spring.

Just went to my interview, very low stress. The interview schedule was very well organized and the coordinator was great at getting us to the right places. I had a great impression of the school, the students seem very cooperative and the facilities while superficially old (a lot of it is in an old building) is actually all pretty high-tech (much more high tech than Rush). The gym for the med students is fantastic and the student center and food court is nearby too. I was a little surprised by how big the medical/pharmacy school campus was. It's not just a medical center with a classroom attached.

Lunch was great too, and our tour guide was very down to earth and told it like it is.

We should find out this month...

I agree that the interviewing format they have is intended to be low-stress. I unfortunately had an interviewer who thought otherwise...but my other two interviews were very much just a conversation. I'm just going to assume that the interviewer who seemed to give me a hard time (and ask inappropriate questions or make kinda non-PC comments) was trying to see how I would respond...but I think I held my own and didn't get frustrated/angry/argumentative/or go down some of the paths he was trying to lead me with his line of questioning. However, I refuse to hold that one interview against my experience although it kinda sucked to have that interviewer first. The impression I got during the interview part is they don't have much time to read through your PS and secondary before you enter so often times they just start out with the "tell me about yourself". So, don't hesitate to bring up things you really want to discuss even if it's already written in your PS or secondary...Other than one of my interviews I really enjoyed the experience and really loved the school (no surprise there).

I agree that our tourguide was really down to earth....as well as my student interviewer. That was purely more of a conversation (didn't ask any of the standard "interview questions" other than why uic?), and I had to keep reminding myself that it was an interview!

Good luck guys!

Ya I definitely thought the interview was very relaxed and conversational. But I got the hint from my interviewers that at the end of the day they want students that are strong academically. I heard of a few interviewers ask for Mcat Scores/GPA. Lunch was great, and Dean Girotti is a cool guy. My only complaint was that the tour of the medical school was really all over the place. We got kicked out of the anatomy lab by like the supervisor. He literally kicked all 20 of us out (along with the M4 with us). Its probably cause it was the first day of interviewing.

I wish you all luck.

Had a few questions that hopefully you could help me with. So I applied here via AMCAS, and then was asked to fill out a online supplemental application. That was a while ago. Now I went to check my status, and that is where I have a question.

I can check my status on the secondary application, that says all materials have been submitted. But as far as checking my status on the website, don't really know how to do that. When I went there, it would not accept my AMCAS ID and password they gave me, and so I don't know how to check the status.

My problem is when I went to the website, it would not allow my info, and then I thought I will do "first time user account creation". and that led to a whole new application. Can someone help, cause right now I am worried I might have missed a whole application, and I just wanted to check my status? Thanks

Disregard my post from above. Found the email, so that is exciting lol. Kind of major brain fart on that one. Thanks nonetheless though.

Right now "Application is in Process." So I guess that is okay.

does anyone know when the committee makes decisions regarding interviews earlier this month??

Third Thursday of the month is when the adcom meets, so this Thursday. Is the next one up. It will be the first since they started interviews, so you may not hear anything if your interview was very recent.

I would guess it's next Thursday, not this Thursday.

Looking from past threads it seems to be the next to last Thursday of every month rather than the third Thursday (although in some months/years, the next to last Thursday is also the third Thursday of the month).

i have been "application in process" for the past two months... (and yes, i have been checking my status every week). do you think i should give them a call or something? this is not looking great...

I wouldn't give them a call. I would just be patient because they have either not gotten to your app yet or have and have NOT rejected you but will look at it later. It's a tough part of the year to have that kind of status, as I'm on hold at several schools as well and I just wish they would make a decision! I wish you the best!

Hmm, I had my interview on 9/22, and I remember them saying expect a decision around the 15th of October.

Interesting, perhaps they already had a September committee meeting and are just waiting to release the decision at the AMCAS date? My group on the 9th wasn't told exactly when in October, just sometime this month. Looking from last year though it was October 23/24 (so technically 4th Thursday and Friday of October). Either way, we find out in less than 10 days. 👍

So I just searched through this thread and didn't find anyone else with my status. I've had it for over a week now.
It says:
Current Status
- - Recommendation(s): 1 received from AMCAS, expecting a total of 1, awaiting Admissions Officer letter review-

Ummmm does that mean I'm complete? I submitted the secondary last month and took my MCAT last year so I have nothing else to submit.
Did anyone else have this status at any point? I don't want to call and bug the people in the office if I don't have to....

Thanks!

i had the same. the admissions officer needs to look at your letters to make sure you sent in enough letters. i called in, and they changed my status to "sufficient recommendations received". i called again a week later, and they had to verify that the recommendations fit the requirements they needed. then my status changed to "applicant in process".

I don't want to find out in 10 days, I want to find out Thursday, dammit.

Christ, I feel like this whole process was designed by a sadistic psychiatrist.

it's certainly rough...I just read through WAY too much of last years thread to try to get an idea of what to except in lieu of studying for my biochem test - probably not a good idea! Between being worried about getting in (this is my top choice) and my three midterms this week....SIGH!!!

Good luck everyone!

Anyone know for sure whether the ADCOM is meeting today or next week? I thought I heard October 15th when I was interviewed, and someone else said third Thursday of the month when going through the decision process.

They didn't give my interview group from last week a specific date, they kind of just said by the end of the month or next month. I think most people are just speculating based on what went down last year...

Well, if you're interview was last week, you're not going to hear today. I'm almost positive that I heard during my interview 9/22 that we would find out today.
