not to make your anxiety 1000000% worse, but i would keep checking every day. It tells you on the status page bfr mail correspondance, and by that time, it is usually too late to get a chicago interview, and you have to then keep calling everyday to see if there are spots open.

What? They dont email you if your status changes or you get an interview invite?

unfortunate but words of wisdom......if it hadn't been for my neurotic checking of SDN to hear about recent invites I probably would've found out about my invite in the mail (ie. far too late for a chicago date) I was just about to only start checking my status once a week (at the end of the week) until I saw somebody on here who mentioned getting an invite and I decided to check one last time. The letter arrived at least 4 days later or so and I believe all of the 16 chicago dates originally available online the day I received the invite were gone within 2 days.

It sucks but hopefully you won't have to keep constantly checking and will receive good news soon :xf:

how do you check your status? the "status" check on the supplemental just says that my supp was submitted and i cant make any changes. ive been complete for over 6 weeks.

....click "Next" button at the bottom

that's the actual status page.

Don't remember if the secondary was a different link or not but perhaps you're not in the right place...this is the link that will allow you to check all parts of your application along with the status of where your file is in the process.

mmmm nope

Sometimes I have wondered if they do it that way on purpose so that those of us who are more interested in UIC (aka the obsessive status checkers) get first crack at the early/ chicago interviews.

I am dying to hear from them, BTW . . . interviewed 10/22, should hopefully hear something by the end of this month! waiting sucks. especially for those of us who don't have an acceptance yet. 😳

hopefully the acceptance comes with a nice fat fried turducken 😀

you mean . . .

😀👍

Could someone remind me what this Thursday rule is as far as calling is concerned?

Mycoprotein. It's actually pretty awesome. Quorn>Morningstar>>>Boca

I think that depends on the product b/w boca and morningstar IMO...where do you buy quorn tho? never tried it.

...and hopefully your status will change next week :xf:

So I'm a little confused. Maybe somebody can clear things up for me.

My file has been "awaiting admissions officer letter review" for over a month. I knew how busy the admissions office is, so I waited a while to call, but finally I got nervous if there was something else I needed to do, so I called today. The lady told me that my file was not complete yet, because my letters had not been downloaded from AMCAS. She told me that they are getting "thousands of letters," and they print them out as they get them. But she completed my application over the phone. So what does this mean as far as my application goes? Since they didn't have my letters downloaded this whole time, my file isn't being looked at in the meetings? And now that it's completed, will it be reviewed? I don't really understand how that works.

If you read earlier posts in the thread you can get a pretty good idea of how their app process works. If your letters just now were placed in your file, then no, your app has not been reviewed yet. Use the application status check page--if it says "application in progress" then your app is complete but not being reviewed. If it says "applicant in progress" then your app is currently under review.

Yes, I understand that part. I guess the part I don't really get is that now that my file is "complete," does that mean it will start being reviewed? It seems like all she did is click a button. Is that really going to make a difference?

I honestly do not know the details of that. I am assuming that a complete file is somehow marked/sorted differently than an incomplete file. Based on where they place you in the lineup (ahead of people, or behind others) you may or may not be reviewed at the next meeting--they meet the third Thursday of every month. If you are complete, then there is really nothing you can do now except wait 😳

Thanks! You're right, I just have to wait

I'm RMED too, so I'll have to wait even LONGER than most. 🙁

Finally "Applicant in process" today after 2 months!

Any idea how long it takes from point on?

took like 2 months for me. sorry.

I've been "application in progress" since september... 🙁

Same, dude. No worries, they have a ton of applications to sift through.

Yeah, I talked to my dad, who teaches at the Urbana campus. He said this year is going to be especially tedious and drawn out, with that whole scandal thing going on at the law school

I think that depends on the product b/w boca and morningstar IMO...where do you buy quorn tho? never tried it.

i agree. morningstar breakfast sausage is good. but quorn tastes more like actual meat, the 'chicken nuggets' are great and the 'ground beef' makes kick-ass tacos. the first place i found it was Whole Foods, but my local Jewel started carrying a couple of their products too. Or if you live in Western IL . . . I've seen it in the new hippie section at Hy-vee 😀
(whole foods sucks for being expensive but they carry the most Quorn products)

...and hopefully your status will change next week :xf:

thanks! I hate that even though UIC was my first interview, I won't get the news from there first! (I should know about MCW sometime between tomorrow and mid-next week, before UIC's committee even meets) 🙁

yeah that really sucks that you missed the earlier review by a few days! I think you interviewed on the same day as one of my best friends and she's in the same boat. She also should hear from another school she interviewed at after the 15th, but she's from texas so I don't have too much sympathy as she had her first interview in July😱 (not to mention the 8k tuition lol)...well at least you could potentially have 2x the good news in a short time span :xf:

Congrats to all those with acceptances. To those people already placed at the Chicago campus - do you only get to find out your campus after you've officially accepted? That seems a bit off to me. What if your decision to attend hinges on the campus chosen?

Like, what if your primary reason to attend is to be in the med district of Chicago during rotations...and then you accept and they place you at a different campus? Is that how it works?

Ya you find out after your accepted and select your preference. So ya basically if you don't get what you want then it could be a deal breaker. I guess thats why everyone tries to apply early as possible. They told us that around december-janaury, chicago starts to fill up. However Dr. Girotti said that this year they will try to save some chicago spots for people with special circumstances. Hopefully you will be able to choose the location of your choice.

Good question. When you get your acceptance letter, you are asked to return the acceptance form/deposit and site preference card fairly quickly. You will then receive your confirmed site location a couple weeks later. I believe that this acceptance form/deposit is merely to hold your seat in the class, and you don't officially officially officially accept until May or so (the date when your immunizations and other stuff are due). Therefore, if you are unhappy with the site that they placed you at, you can withdraw ... I believe this is how it works.

Hope this helps!

I'm pretty sure there is some sort of appeals process too. So if you get placed in rockford you can appeal and be placed in chicago if you have good reason

I think the take-home message is that it is a $100 refundable deposit...if you do not want to attend at the campus where you are placed (and are unable to receive a change through the appeals process) then it is not like you have entered any kind of binding agreement...

keep in mind though that I'm sure many people want to attend to study in Chicago so I think your reason would have to be more compelling than that...however, its still too early to worry about not getting the chicago campus

good luck to everyone!

Quinn, GodisGood - thanks a lot, that definitely helps. I was worried the campus decision is made only after you agree to attend the school (binding). The deposit doesn't worry me as much. Thanks for your help.

Ok so for all of those who have interviewed in the last month or so...

Apparently Thursday is the big day when they meet up and decide our futures! From looking around this thread and last years thread, After a decision is made they will change the online status page to say that a decision has been made. Typically this change will be seen on Thursday or Friday. Usually this has meant that you were accepted and will be receiving a nice envelope in a week or so (there were always questions about whether or not you could be rejected, but it from what I have seen, no one was rejected after the decision this early). If your decision does not change it most likely means that you are in a wait list situation or that they did not review your application.

So here is to praying for a decision being made on my application and reading about it on my status page Thursday night. It would definitely make my day/week/month/ and year!!!!!!:xf::xf::xf:

This is just what I have gathered, if anyone has more information, let me know. Last year it seemed that everyone was slightly worried after the decision was made that they may have been rejected, but then were all accepted.

what will our status become if we've been accepted?

By the end of next week, you will have one of the following two statuses post interview.

1. Decision pending (i.e. no status change) = basically, waitlisted OR

2. Final decision made on XXX date plus an additional correspondence tab next to your interview date tab = basically, an acceptance.

Y'all are going to come on here next week freaking out about getting the final decision made status. Let me ease your anxiety by saying up front that this means you got accepted. I tell you that now, and you will believe me, but come next week, you'll still be freaking out. 🙄

It is probably obvious from my repetitive posting, but I am already freaking out!!!!!!

Just trying to find others like me out there.

one thing I wanted to clarify...

I'm not so sure waitlisted is the best way to describe your status I would think of it more as a "post-interview hold"...from what I have gathered reading previous threads they don't form a waitlist until much later so if you don't receive a status change don't think you're automatically waitlisted. It just means that they haven't decided to offer you an acceptance yet and you will be reviewed at the next adcom meeting. I believe within a few days (or more) you will get an email explaining that your file will be reviewed again. Keep in mind that they accept almost 600 out of 800 interviewed (somewhere around there I believe) so the probability of an acceptnace is high it just might not be immediately.

sooo try to relax and wait for the good news...there won't be a CBC email this early like the instructions say in the beginning of this thread (we should receive that in January) however so if you have the "additonal correspondence" tab you should be good

also...I don't believe our packet in the first round of acceptances was mailed for at least 3-4 days after our status changed, so if you receive anything before 4-5 mailing days you did better than us.

^Sorry, just to check - I was under the impression they accept 300 students (total) each year, not 600. 125 go to Champaign for the first year, and 175 to Chicago. At least that's what I was told during my interview, I think they accept 300 out of 800, slightly less chances (but still not awful).

around 300 (or a little more) matriculate...they accept more than that. generally med schools will accept around ~1.5x the actual class size that they are looking for. I don't remember the exact numbers for UIC but the rate is pretty decent....around 70% maybe??? (differs for OOS and IS though) I forget where I saw the numbers for previous years but I am pretty sure it is somewhere around there...

Here are some data I found online. The data is based on 2007-2008 application cycle. I would think 2008-2009 numbers were very similar.

Total admissions data
7134 applied, 846 interviewed, 596 were accepted, 307 enrolled
In-state admissions data
1795 applied, 547 interviewed, 388 were accepted, 239 enrolled
Out-state admissions data
5339 applied, 299 interviewed, 208 were accepted, 68 enrolled

If you are in state, seems like you have almost 70% chance of getting accepted after an interview. From what I heard, they review interviewed applicants every month. So if you are not accepted in November, all hope is not lost.

My application finally finished being processed, and I got an interview for this Friday!

For those of you who have already interviewed, could you describe the process? Any advice?

congrats!! unfortunately for you though looks like you will have missed the adcom meeting by 1 day!!! 🙁 no worries though hopefully you will have an early christmas present next month...👍 (not sure what their schedule is in december though).

which campus are you interviewing at? I interviewed at the chicago campus in the afternoon...you meet w/ the AM ppl, hear a presentation, have lunch then a tour of the school then you have your interview (for PM). If you chose AM then you will interview first then hear a presentation have lunch and tour. The interviews are really laid back and conversational (especially w/ the med student imo). I interviewed with a MS2, alum, and faculty member. Each interview is about 30 minutes long. After you interview your file is complete and you should go to review at the next adcom meeting (should). They generally meet every 3rd thursday and if you are accepted your status will change, if they didn't review you or they are not ready to make a decision you will continue to be reviewed at subsequent adcom meetings and your status will continue to say "decision pending". Unfortunately they only meet once a month. Hope this helps!

my advice would just be to look over the interview feedback to get a feel for the kinds of questions they ask you. I was asked about my opinion on the public option, problems facing physicians in the near future, why uic, and a few other "typical" interview questions...It really is extremely laid back and the staff is pretty nice and the students are open and will honestly answer your questions.

*lunch was really good btw*

I interviewed 10/14 in Rockford, so we know how long it takes for decisions to be made and communicated? Right now status is Decision Pending.

Thanks.

the thought on this thread is that the meeting is tomorrow. so status changes possible thurs/fri
