*lunch was really good btw*

Seconded. Lunch was amazing, pasta + pizza + bread = perfection.

Mybubbles gave really good advice, she hit just about everything. I'd add this: you eat lunch with the tour guides. I always make sure to try to sit down next to one of them, they're a great resource. My tour guides were incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, and I feel like I got a much better feel for the school just talking with them over lunch and asking questions. People spend too much time asking about boards and the #s - I'd recommend finding out about housing, the types of people that go here, how competitive or close the students are, how often students spend time together - little things like that help you get a feel for a school.

Just remember they're not just interviewing you, it's a chance for you to see if the school is a good fit for you. If you know someone at the school, arrange to meet with them after your day ends - I got my own private tour later on and talked with a bunch of students and came away impressed. Make the most of your interview day.

I interviewed 10/14 in Rockford, so we know how long it takes for decisions to be made and communicated? Right now status is Decision Pending.

Thanks.

yeaaah that sucks since you missed the adcom meeting by a day...we received status changes on 10/15

Good luck for those of you who I'm sure are EXTREMELY anxious about your potential status change tomorrow. This is the second adcom meeting and from what I have heard the earlier you interview here the better your chance so I'm sure I'll see plenty of "accepted" messages tomorrow 🙂

I'd also like to add that you should look over the folders they give you to see who is interviewing you beforehand, and pay attention to the name when they introduce you to your tour guide lol.....the tour guide in my group was actually the student interviewer for some of us, so if that's the case for any of you try to be cognizant of that and don't ask ALL of your "planned interview questions". I second asking them them questions that will help you make an informed decision about whether the school is right for you...they were extremely open/friendly etc. about the pros and cons (just don't run out of question before it's time to interview 😉).

Other than that enjoy...especially the lunch and good luck!

**also now that I remember this I don't think we ate lunch with our tourguides but good advice nevertheless if you do...there were definitely a few scavenger med students that happened to come by and grab some food as we were finishing up though  **

OOS tuition/living expense = 80,000/year....

If I get an interview should I even go? lol...knowing even if I get in thats $320,000 in debt I'll be :scared::scared:

news flash: med school = huge debt 99% of the time
did you think being OOS made things cheaper?
if it's a huge deal withdraw now and let someone else have that interview spot

Oh wow. Do you know if they let you change your residency after one or two years? What if you get married to an Illinois resident?

I second red10...did you not realize how ridiculously expensive illinois was before applied you applied?? Even for us IS it's cheaper/about the same for me to pay OOS at some schools. You probably should've looked that up and you could've saved the $100 for the primary and secondary. The Michigan oos tuition def. turned me away from applying from any of their schools even though it's right next door. If you have other acceptances and this school is obviously going to cost you a lot then I wouldn't go...but unless you wouldn't attend even if it was the only school you where you got accepted I wouldn't make that gamble.

I think this is probably the only way to get illinois residency unlike other places like Ucincy where you can become a resident after a year. I believe you either have to work for a year (w/o being in school) or marry someone who has been an illinois resident for 12 months.....

Does anyone know if Canadians are considered OOS?
The better question that may answer your question would be, "does anyone know if Canadians are considered in-state?"

...Yes, Canadians are considered OOS.

...I ask because there is a big difference between OOS vs international and the information is not posted on their website. I thought that I would post here to see if I could gain a more timely response than that from the school.

lol yes and the fact that some schools have weird policies where they will not accept internationals but consider us Canadians OOS...makes a difference when deciding if I should chance another school or not 🙂

are you also a U.S. citizen/permanent resident? if not, i'm pretty sure (but not 100%) that U of I does not accept applications from non-citizens/permanent residents... i remember reading this somewhere on their site, but now i can't find it. you should wait for the school's official response, though. haha wow this response was useless.

just checked the msar....doesn't look good for you (10 international applied 0 interviewed). The poster above me is probably right that they don't really accept international, but I would call to be sure if they consider canadians international. You probably have better chances with the private schools.

So I guess today is the day the committee will meet. If anyone gets a status change from decision pending to decision made .... please post it up.

:xf::xf::xf: Please UIC let me in !!!!!!!!!!

What does it mean if my status went from "applicant in process" to "application is in process"?

This is on the thread a gazillion times.

BUT, I'll say it again.

If you have gone from "applicant in process" to "application in process" it means your app is essentially placed on "hold" for re-review later. Write them an update letter with new things happening in your life and include why you're interested in their school as well.

no news yet?! bummer...I hope they really do meet today!

**don't stone me for bumping the thread for all of those anxiously waiting lol **

Why hasn't anyone posted anything, yet?!

I am anxious to hear your good news!!!

Yea, seriously, I have been checking all day today. Still just decision pending. I am really worried now, Maybe they just happened to turn down all SDN ers from this particular batch or maybe those who got in dont know or are too busy celebrating to post.

Anyone else out there who interviewed over the last month waiting for a decision and still have the same status or anyone out there get a decision made today???

decision pending here too . . . oh man i am so excited/ anxious about this one. goooooood luck everyone! :luck:

It is almost 5:00 pm in Chicago... I think we are going to wait until at least tomorrow. Hopefully, they met and someone just needs to update the website. If they have not met yet, I think we may be waiting until December.

Anyways good luck.....

My status page finally changed to the interview scheduling page - but the only date that shows up is tomorrow! Do I call and ask for a different date? Or if I wait will more dates open up?

Anyone else have a change yet?
No change yet. I interviewed so long ago (9/14). I got an email around 10/15 saying no final decision has been made yet. It's not looking good but I know a lot of people here at UIUC who interviewed quite early and got the same message. I wonder what's going on and if they are just being really conservative right now in their acceptances. I hope that's the case because I really prefer to go to an in-state school like UIC and minimize the debt.

I've gotta say I'm a bit nervous, as I really didn't think my panel interview went that well. Have they done any post-interview rejections yet?

I think they don't really do that...unless you were just a complete jacka** and they know right away you have no chance...I didn't think one of my interviews went well AT ALL (it was pretty horrible/stressful) but I got in. I don't think anybody that got the "decision made" in my group got rejected. I think they will just keep you hangin forever then reject you....unfortunately for those ppl.

Did you interview in peoria or something? I know they do a group interview at least 1 of the other campuses...just don't remember which one.

DrKB....it's still early! I feel you on the desire to attend an IS school for money reasons...UIC is def. my top choice. So far only one person has gotten a status change...last year ppl still got status changes the day after so stay hopeful and remember you've got around 70% chance!! Hopefully we will be classmates. Keep hope alive!

Hello everyone. I've been watching SDN since I started my MCAT prep almost a year ago and finally figured I would join and give my two cents. I interviewed for UIC in mid october and have been a nervous wreck ever since! It's good to know I'm not the only one, I suppose. No status change as of today. Will cross my fingers and hope for an update tomorrow. Good luck to all.

Congrats!!! Now just relax and wait for the mail! :highfive:

Still waiting.

I really wish I knew what was going through the minds of these adcoms. I interviewed 9/22, my MCAT and GPA are well above the average at UIC, great ECs, and I thought I had a great interview day, but nothing.

UIC, please don't send me another one of those "we'll look next month" e-mails. I can't take this anymore. Just make a decision.

Final decision made and "Additional Correspondences" tab. Looks like I'm staying in Illinois for another 4 years 🙂

I'm right there with ya VisionaryTics. Interviewed 9/14 and have only received the "No final decision made yet" email on 10/15. I don't you if you're IS but I am and I was pretty confident I'd get into UIC. Now, not so sure but hang in there and I think in the end things will turn out good for us. The waiting is the hard part.

Just got this message:

A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone.

Guess that's a rejection from my home institution. awesome...

Do not wait!!! Call them, because whatever it says online isn't necessarily up to date...my friend had a few problems with this.

Congrats! I'm guessing this was your top choice? Which campus are you going for?

I haven't interviewed... so yea... no congrats for me...

as much as I would love to pretend that they just think I'm so baller that they don't even need to interview me, my life is not that awesome.

oh 🙁.... I checked your mdapps before I replied but I figured you just hadn't updated it. I didn't know they did pre-interview rejections this early. Sorry to hear that, good luck to you though with your other schools. Iowa is a great school, I'm still waiting to hear from them as well.

Dude, that's bogus. With your stats and being in-state, that's absurd. I hope your luck is better elsewhere. Totally ridiculous! Sorry!

have only 2 people post-interview gotten a "final decision" status?
i'm still decision pending.. do you think other changes might come during the day? or this means they're gna take another month to evaluate me? ugh

I'm in the same "decision pending" boat... still at sea, waiting and hoping for a signal from the lighthouse telling me I can come ashore and doc lakeside at UIC.

Im also still decision pending....

Small chance they may be still updating? I really hope so... So far it looks like its about half of us who have pending and the other half have decision made (so jealous)
