Well what worries me is from checking last years thread, there was a girl who had applicant in process for a long time too and she ended up getting rejected, so who knows. i think they are somewhat arbitrary until you get an invite but we'll see i guess.

so im applicant in process and have been for like 2-3 weeks maybe 4 didn't really pay attention after i was complete(end of July). Thus, I have a paranoid question. I did not put all of the classes that I would fulfill for the behavioral science classes though I will take a class in the summer that would finish it off if I do get into UIC. Would that be a reason I wouldn't get an interview? Were we supposed to put that on our primary? Stats 33N 3.55/3.48 in state
Also how long being an applicant in process until I probably won't get an interview?

Scheduled for 9/22....eep. Kind of nerve-wracking being the first round of interviewees when I won't know what questions they're asking.
Also, why are you people obsessively checking the status page? Who gives a ****? Just make sure they have all your stuff, and then twiddle your thumbs until you get a letter either way. You people are trying to read status changes like tea leaves.

The letters, for some reason, aren't generated or sent (or something) to everyone. I didn't get one until after I'd interviewed. The status page is the place to go. If you don't want to, don't.

Just wanted to put out there that I had an awesome interview day. Really amped me up about UIC, its resources, its students, and its faculty. Interviewers were a good mix, two very conversational and friendly, and one who challenges you, but was very fair and in the end all-around nice guy.

That was totally evident. This one guy, Gary, was seriously working his butt off to escort literally every interviewee to every interview they had, which were all in very different locations. After other interview days, I can say that that was extremely helpful and very much appreciated. If you manage to talk to Gary or any of the people who work on interview days, let them know that they are doing a fantastic job.

I TOTALLY agree! I interviewed in your group, and I was blown away by how helpful Garie (and everyone else) was!!! Prior to my interview, I envisioned myself stumbling over a map, running around in heels, and rushing to make it on time to each of the interviews. NOT the case in real life! They tell you where you need to go ... heck, they TAKE you where you need to go so you are never under ANY stress whatsoever! I actually had fun on the interview! So to everyone: fear not! and have fun! 😀 The food was rather tasty, too.

oh my goodness . . . i remember him.
like 3 years ago when i had no idea what i was doing with my life and i wanted to apply to medical school i needed advice on how to proceed. (i'd just graduated from art school and knew nothing about med applications.) i emailed the UIC office and they told me a bunch of premeds from UIUC were coming for a tour on an applicant interview day and i could come and tag along too. anyway, that day Garie actually met with me in his office and gave me lots of awesome advice . . . which I followed . . . and now here I am today applying to UIC 😍 good story huh?
i don't think he will remember me but perhaps if i get an interview there i can tell him that and he'll like it. also i very much liked his earring(s)?

Hey zip, how does the pre-interview review process work at UIC? Is it by committee or just one or two admissions reviewers? Is there an objective point scale, or is it more like yay-nay kind of thing? With this many applications, it seems like there's got to be some kind of numerical number that each one of us gets.

Not trying to be difficult here, but you should call and ask Admissions that question. If they won't tell you, I shouldn't. If they will, then by all means share it with the group. 🙂

Haha, I don't think I care that much to harass the admissions office (on a non-Thursday too) with that. Was just curious.
I am however trying to figure out the tuition for UIC. The website with the fee schedule is here: http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/grad/tuition_prof/tuition_prof_fal09_spr10.html
But I'm not sure what to do with this table. What's Range I, Range II? And should I also add the cost of two summer terms for M3 and M4?
If I'm not mistaken, tuition on average over 4 years (including summer terms) is almost $35,000 a year in-state now?

$31,385(tuition per term)*8 + $19,021(summer term tuition)*2 = $289,000, divide that by 4 = $72,000 in tuition alone per year.

It's a state school, folks. Of course OOS tuition is going to be high. But if this is the school you love (or the only one that admits you), wouldn't you pay it? 🙂

Heh, all I can say is I'm thankful to be an Illinois resident applying to UIC. 😀
$72,000 a year has got to be THE most expensive OOS tuition in the country.
MSU and WSU are up there too, but you're right, I think UIC is the highest. Maybe GWU.
I think they just really like reading our essays.

yeah i definitely wouldn't have applied if i was not IS. i didnt apply to michigan, colorado either because OOS tuition is too high. i think the most expensive school i applied to was Tulane (~45K.)
Zip do you think its worth the $ you save to choose UIC over other chicago schools? (rush, loyola, RFU?)

Hey Spyderefs- I booked a room at the Holiday Inn for $99 on the 21st. From my Google Map directions it says it'll take 13 minutes via public transit to get there, but will probably take longer that early in the morning...so maybe I'll end up just calling a taxi (which Google Maps says will take 6 min).
I would be totally down to share the room, however I think the room I have booked is a King...that'd be kinda awkward. Maybe we could change the reservations though. PM me.

First, you don't save much money. Second, your statement necessarily implies that UIC is somehow not as good as Rush, Loyola, or RFU. Nice.

Hey Zip, did the Admission Committee mentioned if the class size might increase this year? I know UIC is a large medical school and it's pretty close to home. I think it is better than Rush and I would be very pleased to attend UIC.

I didn't mean it like that. I guess what I really meant was, are private schools really worth the extra $ they cost? (Because I am in no way convinced that they are.) The only advantage I could see would be that the private schools have smaller class sizes. But I don't know whether that actually makes a big difference either (which is why I asked you about your experience with the class size in an earlier post.)
Anyway, I don't believe that UIC is inferior to other Chicago schools. Not having attended all these schools I don't know but actually I would say based on the general feeling I get from SDN it's more approximately like this: Rush=UIC=Loyola > RFU.

Nope, I haven't heard anything about that.
You'd really need to ask a student from each to kind of debate it for you. UIC's facilities are older than most of the private schools, but they are still completely functional. The budget is a bit smaller due to state budget cuts, but I have yet to notice anything, really. It's a fantastic school and, along with Rush, is in a prime place to study medicine. 🙂

I have heard that the status can change from "application in process" to "applicant in process" and then back to "application in process." I woudn't be too much worried about this. I would be more concerned if it said a "Final decision has been made on your application."😱
So for those who haven't recieved in interview yet, let's just hope we could get one soon..........
