I keep getting an error message when I access the award letter page. It also says "Note: Unless you have received email notification that your award letter is available for viewing, you will not be able to access your Award Letter."
...so there's no way to access financial aid information? Has anyone received anything through the mail about it?

Humph. That's curious. In all honesty, I did just copy and paste the link from the email I received from them. Perhaps they only sent the email to UofI affiliated kids who already had a legit ID such that it might take more time for the non-UIC affiliated kids to get their info???

There is no separate process for merit-based scholarships. Very few people get them--and, probably due to the financial situation of the state and the entire University of Illinois system, I would expect there to be even fewer this year. (Don't quote me on this--it's just a guess.)

The majority of people have federal loans (some subsidized--but the majority are unsubsidized). No matter your EFC, UIC usually allows you to take the maximum amount of loans, if you so wish.

For the people that do get it, do you know the range of the merit scholarship amounts? Thanks.

From what I heard, one or two extremely well qualified students will get a full merit scholarship--it's rare, but I think it happens. A few others get $5000 a year or so. I'm not certain but others may get something like $1000/yr. Don't quote me on it--but that may be the case.

@BBender--it doesn't matter when you graduated. I graduated from UIUC three years before going to UIC--and I have the same UIN and netid. You may have to reset your password. I'd suggest going to https://my.uic.edu/common/ and selecting "First Time Users...activate portal account" If that doesn't work, try http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/index.html/ACCTS.html and activate your accounts through there.

To those who got interviews to the Urban Med Program, what time is it scheduled for? I haven't received my invite yet since I just got my acceptance not to long ago but I'm trying to figure out if I would be able to stop in Chicago that day.

They haven't told us the exact times yet, but I believe they are before and after the "second look" day. The times are 8-10am and 3-5pm I believe...

I just wanted to see if people who are familiar with the UMED program could provide their perspective on how they feel towards the curriculum and experiences. Thanks

Hey guys,

for those of you going to second look day ... heck, even if you aren't going to second look day, do you think it would be dorky of me to bring my mom along? Is anyone else bringing a parent?? I think it would be cute, but I just don't want my mom to be the only one there. 😀

what does the invite say? does it say you can bring a guest? i just got my site placement letter but haven't heard formally about second look day. i'm definitely coming on the 23rd though! my mom lives on the west coast, so she can't come even if she was invited 😉

When I replied to the invite, they asked if I was planning on bringing any guests and how many. I wasn't, but I felt like the response implied that they were welcome...

The document attached to the invitation email says you are welcome to bring up to two guests. I just came back from second look visit at another school and over there I noticed that quite a few students brought their parents/so along. So I do not it's awkward for parents to attend second look.

It says that we can bring 1-2 guests. Glad to know that you will be there! I hope to go myself!!! See you then! :xf:

Ahh! Thanks so much, guys!!! I guess if you see someone there with their mom, you know who it is ...

Lol you crack me up, I guess Ill know who you are. And for what its worth, I don't think its weird to bring your mother, I mean seriously were gonna be in professional school are we that insecure to really care if someone thinks its weird to bring a parent.

I still kiss my mother when I leave home...😍

...my mom guides me by the pinky.

Hey, not to show my ignorance, but whats second look day?

hi yoman! second look day is for accepted students. it's when we go back to the visit the school and they give us more information to help us decide if it's a good fit for us. they have them around this time of year because we all have to give a firm decision by May 15th.

So for those of us going to the Second Look day, how will we know who is who? Other than Quinn who will be there with her mom 😉

Just received my invite this past Friday. Times were stated as "8-11 AM" and "3-5 PM" but I imagine they mean 8-10 AM for the morning session.
Since I am currently placed at the Rockford campus, I wonder how the second look day will work for me. I imagine I can attend the day?

Just got my site placement- Chicago! 🙂 Probably won't be attending second look since I haven't been formally invited yet and since I've gotten into Chicago I may not interview for UMed since I also haven't been invited yet.

I was placed in Urbana-Champaign, but I have a significant other who needs to be in Chicago for work. Hope the placement petition works out.

Anyone know when the adcom is meeting this month for april...technically, this month has five Thursdays....any guesses as to on which one they decide our fates?:scared:------->:scared::scared::scared::scared:

I am interested in this as well!!!! For some reason I had in my mind on or around April 15th... but I don't know if that is correct. Anyone else ??!!!

I was told a little over a week ago that it would be on the 15th, so this Thursday.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long after mailing in your acceptance did you get your site placement? And was it by snail mail or email?

Thanks!

We, apparently, had this same issue back in October. Being that there are 5 Thursdays in October, the prediction became a bit tricky. I was all like "yeahhh! We will find out on the 22nd!" which was the second to last Thursday of the month ... as the third Thursday typically is ... except when there are FIVE Thursdays in the month!!! But I was wrong and caught totally off guard when I found out on the 15th of October. lol

That being said, I would imagine that you all will have status changes this Thursday or Friday. Good luck!!! 😀

Just got my site placement yesterday via snail mail. Chicago!!!!! Looks like I'll be going here! So excited!

And I was surprised at how quickly the turnaround was. I turned in my site preference card in less than a week ago.

Good luck to those still waiting! I know it sucks right now, but keep the faith. It'll happen one way or another!

thanks for the fast replies peeps....hopefully i can join you this fall!:luck::xf::luck::xf:

Hey guys, I posted this in the UIC Class of 2014 thread, but I'd thought I'd post it here also:

For anyone assigned to Chicago and is looking for a place to live, I'm looking for a roommate to share the condo where I live when my current roommate moves out. It's walking distance to the College of Medicine, as well as on several CTA bus lines and the UIC Intercampus shuttle route.

Quick overview of the place: it's a 1300 sq. ft condo, 2Bed/2bath, so you'd get your own bedroom and bathroom. The place is basically entirely furnished--except for your room. Granite countertops, hardwood floors, fireplace with custom mantle with a flat screen tv, outdoor patio and deck.

PM if you're interested or want more information. Male roommate preferred.

There are 2 of you in the DC area? I am too! I'm 95% sure I'm coming to UIC in the fall (Chicago placement!). :soexcited:(LOL i know this smiley is a little intense...but it feels good to be *this close* to making a decision!)

What would be even crazier is if we all worked at the NIH? lol...I do.

Is anyone else as nervous as I am about tomorrow's committee meeting? I feel like there are so few spots left. :-(

Does anyone know how UIC committee meetings go? Are we just strictly already ranked by interview scores or is there a discussion among committee members about each applicant?

I am EXTREMELY nervous about it :scared::scared::scared::scared: all I do is keep thinking about it...cant even focus on my homework :corny: I really hope that there is a discussion by the committee members. This is my only choice and if it doesn't work out then it will be really sad  but at the same time, I am trying to be optimistic about it and hoping that some good comes out of that last minute interview...:xf:

Interview on 9/22/09, still waiting to hear.

Here's hoping I get some good news tomorrow. I wonder how a very angry letter about being lead on by false hope for 8 months will impact my chances for admission next year...

Don't do it, seriously.

Where there's life, there's hope. I'm right there with you, waiting on the morrow for something good to come through this haze that my life has become. But if nothing comes again, if all I am destined to be for right now is still a pre-med, then so be it, at least we still have hope, have a chance where so many have none.

😀dont take it too seriously. every medical school is good.
