Quick question:

I am filling out the coursework and I just realized that Michigan requires 3 hours of bio labs. As stupid as this may sound, I have only taken 2 hours of bio lab and I did not put any other planned bio labs on my AMCAS. Should I just fill out the secondary with another bio lab that my undergraduate institution offers (and I could take this fall or next spring)?

Thanks!

anyone know why they ask if you are interested in joining any of those associations they list? i mean, i just don't feel like i know anything about them so i'm going to just say no. ....but why do they ask? would there be any benefit to saying yes to one? i'm thinking not.

My status page is just complete since 7/22 but i haven't gotten any other updates...🙁 i hope i get something/it doesn't mean something negative

I'm in a similar boat, having been complete since 7/15. My guess is the interviews and holds are going out in waves.

This process is nerve racking! I'm just happy to have invites from Pitt and Vandy to sooth the anxiety 🙂

I'm pretty sure the only interview invitations that have gone out so far are the automatics or those who have very close to the stats necessary for an auto-invite. The website says they've only given out 20% of all interview slots so far.

Yeah, my LizzyM score is 82 so I figured I would be part of that initial wave 😕

not true if you read above

wow...maybe they really don't do automatic invites then...

My school just isn't prestigious enough 😡 Oh well, time to demonstrate some patience (definite weakness of mine!)

Is it in MI? Also, it shouldn't matter how "prestigious" they perceive a particular school to be...your MCAT score has to be at least a 42!!

Nope, my school isn't in MI. Just goes to show, numbers aren't everything! Hopefully things are proceeding by waves and we will be next to receive news

it doesnt have to do with what your school is, its based on gpa, mcat, and directors discretion, i emailed and asked.

complete 7/13...LizzyM of 80 and no news...

I added UM to my list after Robert Ruiz (Director of Admissions) gave a talk about the process at my school. He explained they have what seemed like an immense amount of data concerning USMLE scores etc. of students from various schools with various MCAT scores/ GPA and all that. Although you might have identical or better stats than someone who got an automatic invite, the decision is probably based on data we don't have access to.

Michigan Update:

Applications Received: 2359
Interviews Offered:
184 of 700

Thats 40 more interviews (some non-auto)
and 400 more applicants

Does anyone know if the number of applicants at this point in time is about the same as last year?

Last year they had a total of 5,134 applicants and they interviewed 695. Maybe that explains the drop in total number of interviews to 700. If they adjust the number of slots based on applicant numbers, they may be expecting a slightly higher volume than last cycle.

Has anyone with one of the early interviews been able to get a slot in the student host program? There were none available when I was invited a couple weeks ago, and I've checked here and there since then. I'm still holding off reserving a hotel room in case I can stay with a student.

when i was offered an interview, it gave me a choice of a student host when i picked my interview date. it may be that there are no student hosts available for the night before your interview?

dude my status hasn't been updated since 7/10. i guess i am still under review

dude, 7/13, no update either, and some people were complete then and got put on hold or interviews, so who knows...

there weren't any available for my date either

i wonder if michigan has even started giving out non-auto interviews yet. i know people have gotten interviews since the initial batch, but these may be auto-interviews for those whose primary applications didn't go out to michigan in that first june 24th day...

From what I understand people have been getting interviews post-secondary review, which I believe means they are non-auto. Yes?

Yeah, but it could also be that the first batch goes out with secondaries just because Michigan has JUST received the applications then. Afterwards, the secondaries are automatically sent through their system but like others have said on this thread, Michigan looks at quite a few different factors on the application before giving out those auto interviews and so perhaps that's the delay between secondary and interview invite? We don't literally know if those with newer interview invites had their secondary read yet or if they just got the interview on stats/magical interview formula.

Quick question: i thought this school didn't screen for secondaries but now I'm not sure, do they screen for secondaries?

they dont screen

non auto interviews have been given, read above a few people ahve gotten them, someone even was complete on 7/29 and got one recently (non-auto)

yeah non-auto interviews have definitely gone out. i don't think my stats are good enough for an auto interview.

i just realized that there are some discrepancies in my hrs/wk between my secondary and my AMCAS. it's nothing too big, for two of my activities i wrote 10 hrs/wk instead of 12 and for one i put 20 hrs/wk while my AMCAS says ~25.

*edit: just realized it's a lot worse than that, one of the activities i listed on my amcas as 12 hrs/wk and on my mich secondary i listed it as 6 hrs/wk. i don't even know what i was thinking when i was doing this, i copied the wrong list that i had*

i wasn't lying on my AMCAS or anything, it was just an honest mistake. do you guys think i should email UMich and tell them about it so they could maybe do something about it or do you think it's not huge and they won't notice it?

i feel like even if they don't notice it now, if i do get an interview (please let that happen) then at interview time they might wonder about it. ahh don't know what to do

so, i was verified on 7/2, but haven't received a secondary from Mich. Anyone else in my boat? Or, have I been screened out (even though I thought they didn't screen)?

EDIT: On a lark, I went to their secondary portal on the website, and it let me in! WTH?

I would try emailing them or looking through your junk mail. i applied to them at 3pm on the 4th and I received the secondary at 6am on the 5th. And I would hardly believe you were "screened" since they don't.

Yeah, just called and they said they sent it to my email on the 3rd of July. I have gmail spam filters that put anything that says "University", "Medicine" or "Medical" in my inbox. Plus I still check it every other day...not sure what happened, but it freaked me out. Kind of glad Vandy sends snail mail and Emory hasn't opened their app yet, b/c those are my last two...

ohs wells 🙂. This secondary isn't so hard -- I'll punch it out by COB.

bump... anybody? i think i'm just going to email them and tell them what happened

Just update your application, go to your secondary and on the left there is a button to update your app, list your activities again with the right times.

Basically what i can gather is that applicants who go to receive an interview are notified shortly after being complete.

congrats! ahh i'm hella jealous, i was complete on 8/12 and i'm still under review

Hey,
I just wanted to ask if anyone is flying into Mich. (Detroit airport) around 5:30 on Thursday Aug. 27th. I am planning on taking the shuttle bus in (to save time) and thought it might be nice to get a group of people together to save money. Please PM in you are interested.

To current students:

I'm flying in on Sept 24 for interview on the 25th, but the school won't provide student host service. Could someone take me in for a night please?

Thanks!

what does it mean if our complete status hasn't changed for like almost a month (7/22)-is this a bad sign or are we still in the game herE?
