It is an overall nice interview experience. Seems like they do care a lot for their students. A big plus for this school 😛
I am an sdner and I have a MDapp account. I interviewed at UM on 8/28. I haven't put that in my MDapp yet...I just cant figure out how to work with thee MDapp. I guess I will stop updating it unless someone show me how to do so...
What I am trying to say is, there are always exceptions.![]()
I emailed and asked admissions what the criteria for auto invite, their response:
"We consider MCAT, GPA, and our Director's discretion"
Hmm..so its not all just computer, they do somewhat review your file. Is that bad news for kids with high MCAT, GPA, but no auto?
this thread is so depressing, weve got like 20 ppl who have been complete for like 6 weeks here and no news.
Has anyone done/got this fun facts email? I'm not sure what to put. Maybe people that have gone to the interview could give me some idea of what they're looking for. Is it just supposed to be something kind of funny and interesting just as an ice breaker? Or do they seem to use it at least partly to evaluate you and if you put something non-academic(ish), you'll look ridiculous?
Maybe I'm thinking too much into it, but I don't want to write something like "I can recite the opening monologue to Star Wars from memory" (I can't, just a random example), and everyone else has something like "I can speak 9 languages" or "I can perform a triple bypass" and everyone in the room is thinking "What an idiot" in regards to me.

their twitter says that 42 more invites went out today, any SDN'ers on that list?
Forcier, Forcier, Forcier
Ahhhhh!!! I have my interview on Friday. It's my first one and I'm already starting to worry. Does anyone that interviewed already have any pointers? Things I should prepare for? Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.
From their twitter:So I got this update today Application Screening Completed
Your application has been reviewed. At this point we are not able to offer you an interview. Additional reviews may take several months as we compare groups of applicants. Thank you for your patience.
Am I rejected? Is there any hope? Has anyone been known to get an interview after having this status? Thanks.
From their twitter:
MCAT and GPA averages of our Applicants (32/3.7) and those offered interviews (38/3.8) The pool this year is simply outstanding!
38 MCAT average?? That's ridiculous...
I just added this school and am wondering what qualifies as a non-academic activity. If I did research at a university in which I was a student, but it was an independent project and not for a class, is it academic? Because if it is, then the clinical research I did at a hospital associated with a medical school is also academic...these are two of the most important things in my application.
They said on the twitter that they are closing files. Has anyone on her actually been rejected or are they just withholding that?
I have an interview in a week. This school sends me so many emails I had to make a separate folder in my inbox. FYI, the interview day is huge--more than 40 people are invited for one day of interview that I'm attending. Mass interview indeed.

"Preparing for Admission team meeting tomorrow to discuss processing/review progress-considering reducing # interview offers for the year"
👎 Can't believe how competitive applicants are this year. I have been waiting for a month and still no news 🙁

Dude, I've been complete since 7/7. It's getting close to 3 months, and I haven't heard a thing.
Can't believe they are posting stuff like this on a Twitter feed, of all places. It is simply not appropriate and, in my opinion, betrays a lack of true respect for their applicants.
I don't get what's wrong with that Twitter feed...
still seems transparent to me
actually though, it's not automatic.. they still choose who gets interviews after reviewing the applications... it is not a computer
Or maybe the fact that it seems like they're not getting as many applications overall. It says they've only gotten about 3500 and they were anticipating about 2000 more than that. I can't imagine over a third of applicants still haven't applied yet. But I guess it's possible.
I believe that transparency in the admissions process should play out in a school's timely and clear communication with its applicants, not this twitter BS.
Just checked my status. Oh, the irony.
Oh, it's definitely "transparent", but is this type of transparency necessary or even desirable? Consider that the admissions office sent an invitation to follow this feed to all its applicants, not just those chosen for an interview. The twitter account then goes on to issue vague hints of impending rejections and interview offers. The latest missive about considering a reduction in the number of interviews (followed by a dramatic ellipsis.. ooh!) verges on insulting.
As a current applicant "under review" for about a month now, how am I supposed to react to this? Am I supposed to be enthralled by the drama of the admissions process, eager to awake every morning so I can check whether the University of Michigan has deigned to grant me one of their precious interviews? No, I'm just annoyed and increasingly turned off at the prospect of attending this school if given the opportunity. I know no one is forcing me to read it, but I still find it off-putting. I am not one to be driven to madness contemplating my chances of admission, but plenty of people are (note the existence of this forum), and U-M's twitter feed is unnecessarily feeding the frenzy.
