With respect to the email I can tell you Michigan does recruit and tries hard. Some people will be turned off by this, but remember Michigan is a top 10 (or maybe 11 I don't know the rankings anymore) school, but they are in the Midwest and it does take a little more effort to get people you here. You will actually come to appreciate the efforts they make to get you if you do get an interview and get in (very few schools will work as hard to get you) and it is important to make the schools recruit you somewhat as well. Remember you all have something to offer and schools should want that and they need to show that some way as well.
Sorry I do not know this. I would say the actual ones will start going out sometimes in mid to late August at the earliest and will continue to go out until mid-January. The earlier you are complete the more times they will go through your file the better it is for you.

Add it if you like Michigan and could see yourself there. They definitely take plently of out of state applicants.
As far as the auto-interview goes, I heard from someone in admissions that the stats are generally higher for OOS applicants to qualify (something like >38 MCAT and >3.8 gpa), so I don't think you would get one.
Auto interview states needed:
In state: 3.7 and 36 mcat with no section lower than a 10
OOS: 3.8 with 38 MCAT with no section lower than a 10
Of note in your basic courses: biology, chem, orgo, physics you cannot have grade in C range either (but doubt you would if you have above 3.7 GPA)
It does not matter what school you go to.

This can't be true based on my personal experience. I'm OOS with stats considerably higher than that and didn't receive an AI. Maybe my school (flaghip state university) has a bad reputation or something 😕

According to the Director of Admissions at Michigan, prestige of undergrad school does matter. They don't define "prestige" so it's really subjective, but yes, high stats and whatever they consider a top-notch school are required for an auto invite.

So, if we have submitted everything, and our LORs were received and uploaded to AMCAS this morning, we don't have to do anything else for Mayo, right?
In other words: the "request for letters" doesn't require an action besides sending them to AMCAS (which my school did)

OK so I'm filling out my Michigan app and I've come across the following questions:
1. When inputting the time commitment of our activities, should we put the PROJECTED commitment (e.g. if I started a job last June and plan to continue it through next year, should I put 2 years?)
2. Can the following be included in the non-academic activities: Research, Shadowing, TA
3. I participated in the Americorps Students in Service Program, where you do like 300 hours of service and get a scholarship. It's not a typical Americorps program, which requires you to devote a year to a service or something, but would I still mark the Americorps radio button?
4. For those of you on the quarter system, how did you approach the courses portion? My requirements would need to be filled by 3 quarters worth of courses, but we're only given two spaces for each requirement...
5. If we're not a Michigan resident, is there anything we need to do for the Michigan Residency portion of the app?

Yeah, UM has gotten much more friendly for OOS applicants in the past few years... but less friendly for in-staters.
It's really difficult for us Michigan applicants, as there aren't as many choices for us around here as say Ohio or east coast. There's only UM, Wayne State and Michigan State, and there's a huge separation in the education quality.

1. I would say something like "X years (continuing)." They have your AMCAS, so I would just make sure it's as consistent with that as possible.
2. Not 100% sure, but I think it should be fine. Just make sure it's consistent with your AMCAS.
3. UM admissions (from experience) is especially finicky about inconsistencies, so maybe you could add that in your activities and make a note.
4. The UM people have said "do your best." They said that they understand schools are different.

i have several quick questions:
should i list my best grades in this prerequisite grid or should i just list my introductory series? does it really matter?
as for the lab section, can i repeat a class if it was lecture and lab or should i put down a separate lab?

Michigan has always been OOS state friendly and it is what makes Michigan stand out way above the other in state schools as they are able to get the best from all around the country. While the state of Michigan has less medical schools than Ohio etc there are plenty of seats. Wayne State has a class of like 300 + 170 for Michigan is already 470. I don't know how big MSU class is, plus Oakland University/ Beaumont is opening in 2011 adding at least 50 or so seats.
I would say do what you feel is best. If you have a better grade in a latter class such that is still chemistry or physics etc. list it. It really won't matter that much. Yes you can repeat lecture/lab in one and in the lab. If you have a latter lab that meets the minimum requirement you can put that also.

MSU is expanding to 200 this year with the expansion in Grand Rapids. Last year their class was 156.

Yep been complete for almost 3 weeks...
Thats the only downside to getting these in so soon - it takes so long to hear anything, especially with schools that don't start reviewing until September

So their recruiting worked for me--I added Michigan to my list of schools today. My AMCAS has already been verified.

So after browsing their website, this school looks great! Podcasts and streaming lectures sound great, and so do a lot of their other educational programs, like being able to see patients your first semester.
Someone said that Michigan does a lot to sell their university. I agree--they've done a good job. The only thing I'm not sold about is the climate...

They're making the non-auto decisions right now. Got deferred. That means someone's getting non-auto invites. They're out there... somewhere, lol

Yes, that's the status I have. It's definitely a deferral, but that's cool because I expected that. I'm one of those guys that stats won't make it or break it for me, it's the ECs that will hopefully carry me.

I was complete a couple weeks ago and got the deferred message (not quite in state auto-invite stats), so I don't think the fact that you're now getting the deferred message has anything to do with whether or not they are putting out non-auto invites yet.

Hello, Hello 🙂. This will be my first post. I finally caved in and registered an account because I just had the most burning question to ask. I apologize if this was addressed before, but I just couldn't find anything in older threads/posts with my concern (or maybe I wasn't looking carefully enough). I just submitted my secondary and while I was looking at my essays, I noticed that my paragraphs were fused together. I was wondering if anyone knew if this is a concern or not. I don't think the instructions said anything along the lines that an "Enter" would not be registered as so.
From what people have been posting on various threads, it looks as though the admissions committees can still see the "enters" even though we cannot on the verification page.
