Does anyone know what the average USMLE I scores are for UTHSCSA? And do you think only 5 placed in ny residencies b/c most grads chose to stay in TX or midwest? Thanks!

Nov. 15 thru Dec. 31st is the prematch offer period for TX residents. Feb. 1st is match day, and then rolling offers may continue after that.

I believe your assertion about graduates staying in the region is probably correct.

The match is were every in state interviewee ranks the schools they interviewed at in order of preference and then the medical schools each rank the interviewees that they want. TMDSAS matches the interviewees with the school that ranked them they highest.

Basically, the majority of the class will be decided on by Feb 1st. If you are looking to buy or want first choice at rentals near campus, you have less competition if you look before the match. I'm not saying that you cannot find a place after then, but it's much easier to get a deal when less people are looking. If you decide to buy, you can also wait until after the residency match (I'm not sure when it is) when a lot of the 4th years are trying to sell there places.

You won't die, I promise 🙂

But please please please by all means, this goes to ALL of you, do NOT get depressed if you don't hear anything on Nov 13 (you won't hear anything on the weekend, last year they did it all the Friday before the 15th so I'm assuming they'll do the same this year). There is still a long way to go, and UTHSCSA always saves a good chunk of acceptances for the match. I was heartbroken last year when I didn't prematch anywhere, and now I look back and realize how silly it was. I know you've been looking forward to this day for quite a few months but don't automatically expect to hear anything. The only day you'll know anything for sure is match day....and even then there's still the waitlist!

Keep your heads up guys...you'll be through this and into your first year before you know it!!

I had 5 interviews total. I actually ended up having to wait for the match, got into TCOM through that, and then got off the UTHSCSA waitlist on June 11th. So, it's definitely not over until classes start!

Dr. Jones mentioned that he actually called someone during orientation to offer them a spot in our class. They had less than one week to find a place and move to San Antonio but couldn't have been happier! You have until Nov. 13th until classes start to get accepted somewhere so there is plenty of time.

As an in-stater, you can be accepted by a Texas medical school anytime from Nov. 13th 2009 (because Nov. 15th is on a Sunday) to when classes start in July/Augutst 2010 for that school. Sorry if my previous post wasn't clear.

I have no idea what UTHSCSA is doing (I'm guessing TMDSAS is probably leaving it up to the schools) but just wanted to let y'all know that you may have to wait an extra day instead of it happening two days early. 🙁

BranMed: It is getting pretty late but we interview through mid-December, so you still have a few weeks left!

That person was me! I asked UTHSCSA's admission committee the same question and they said that acceptances will go out Nov 13th after 12pm.

I was verified way back on 8/15. And helicase1, my stats are 3.8/32. Don't lose hope guys! There's still a good month left for interviews

I don't think that this is true. In fact, it was the second school that I interviewed with (Oct 5th). I mentioned in a previous post that I was verified early August.

The thing about UTHSCSA, according to what the dean told us on interview day, is that they take tremendous care in processing your entire application to see if they want to extend and interview. This would be in contrast to other schools that put heavier emphasis on GPA/MCAT.

Yea, I remembered when Dr. Jones came to my school to speak to us pre-meds. That's why I really want to get a chance to see the school because I like how they emphasize looking at the applicant as a whole instead of mere numbers. Hopefully I'll hear back from them soon =)

This was the second place where I interviewed as well; however, the time between application completion and interview invitation was longer than for other schools I applied to.

I was verified in early September and received invitation on 10/01.

They have already looked at that batch at least once. I was verified on 09/11, and I met many people on the interview day who were verified around the same time.

If I remember correctly, they sent out one or two more batches last year...smaller than what went out today but prematching should definitely not be over for this school!

Don't be sad!! There is still a TON of time left. I thought I had my best interview here and I didn't prematch...I didn't match...I literally got in 4 days before I couldn't be eligible for waitlists anymore. So...it really isn't over til school starts!

Do not be too sad; some people have multiple acceptances and will decline UTHSCSA acceptance offer. I will decline mine as soon as I receive my formal acceptance offer from UT Southwestern via snail mail.

Yea mine is still empty too...I would give the schools a few days to get their offers to TMDSAS I guess.

None of the schools that I got accepted to (including UTHSCSA) are listed either. My guess is that interfolio/TMDSAS just hasn't gotten around to updating it... I would start getting concerned if you don't get your acceptance packet in the mail in the next week.

I was there as well, nice school and I would love to go there but my interviews were not as casual as all the students assured us they would be.

I'm trying to recall from the numbers Dr jones gave us about acceptances if it left room for additional prematch offers. Did he say 120 or 150 went out? And what will be total class size?

Does anyone know for sure that they will be attending SA. I guess this only applies to anyone who has received a prematch offer. I received one on Friday and will most likely attend but am curious about others.
