Prematch offers expire that quickly? I thought you could hold them almost up to the match?

You can hold them until the match, but you have to accept within like 2 weeks. You can accept multiple TMDSAS offers until Jan 15 when you have to pick one. Even then though, you can hold as many non TMDSAS offers as you want until May 15.

I imagine then that most people would accept most pre match offers unless they are absolutely certain they're going some where else. So the pre-acceptance is really more of an opportunity to decline than to accept? Do the pre match offers from all schools have an expiration date like that?

Congrats!!! No, you are definitely not interviewing for a waitlist spot, they keep a good chunk of acceptances open for the match, and technically you could still prematch as well. Good luck!

This doesn't directly address your question, but I remember Dr. Jones saying that last year they took 20-30 people who didn't match anywhere.
 
For those that are releasing some prematch offers for others, how are you doing it? Are you calling them, emailing, or sending a physical letter?

Do you think email will be ok?

In the acceptance letter for San Antonio, they give you an email address that you can use to decline the offer. Alternatively, you can send back in the form and check the decline box. You can also decline them on TMDSAS.

Personally, I sent back the forms and also declined them on TMDSAS.
 
I interviewed on 11/16, but I am out of state. From what I understand, the pre-match is just for TX residents. Has anyone else OOS heard back from this school? I am just not sure what the timeline would look like for me...

I have declined mine on TMDSAS website.

I emailed them last week. Dec 14th is the last date and they said all interview invites would go out before the thanksgiving holiday.

Yeah, I'm pretty sad about this too, so far I only have two interviews and am thinking I have to apply next year oh well this is what I get for waiting too long to apply. ::shrugs:: You still have until Dec1st for Texas Tech and Dec 7th for Tx AM. So G'luck

I interviewed on Oct. 19 and really liked the school, students, and faculty. I'm just so excited right now to get an acceptance before the holidays, good luck to anyone who still has interviews!
 
Thinkin about getting a macbook for med school. anyone heard if they are allowed at UTSA or any of the other schools? i thought I heard that at one school there were issues with receiving grades on a mac but that everything else was fine, ie. video lectures and notes

At the interview they told us that PC and Mac's were both fully supported at UTHSCSA.
 
What do they do in the way of recording lectures?

That's a good question. Do they record lectures for the students or do y'all invest in recorders? In my grad program they record the core lectures but the quality is not great...

You interviewed on Thursday, Oct. 19th? Congrats on your acceptance. Has anyone from the interview date Oct. 16th received their prematch offer yet?

We were told by students that they audio record all lectures and they are available to download from iTunes. (For free) They started video recording of the MS2 classes this year as a trial. Everyone said it was great, so they are planning to use it for MS1 next year also. The cool thing is that the video is also supposed to be sycronized with a powerpoint of the profs slides, so you dont have to guess what slides they are talking about.
 
Anyone who interviewed on 11/16 receive a prematch offer?

There was someone on here who interviewed on 11/9 and got their prematch two weeks later on 11/23 so I was hoping today would be the lucky day for those of us who were there 11/16.

"At this time, our admissions committee has selected and invited all applicants for our 2009 interview season."

My impression was that there were 3 batches of prematch offers. Two have gone out, and so there might be a third coming out mid to late December. "Two week later" just happened to bet he time between that particular interview date and the Nov23rd batch date.
Any one happen to know, then, when the 3rd prematch was last year? Crossing fingers...

I just interviewed here yesterday and one of my tour guides said that they may decide to add extra interview dates after dec. 14 but that it was totally up to them. She was an MS4 and said that since they (med students) do a lot of the interviews, it was up to them to decide if they wanted to conduct a few more interview cycles... i guess depending on their schedule? So there's still hope guys! Good luck! 🙂
 
I interviewed 1/16, nothing yet. Someone said mid-to-late Dec for the 3rd batch, but does anyone have any other info? It would really help in my decision making process. I am OOS too, so I am not even sure that I would hear anything.
 
Is anyone doing a 2nd visit (Post acceptance) here? What is the format? Group, individual?

for what it's worth, I got an interview invite on December 2 for an interview date on December 21!!

Interviewed 10/12. Pre-match Offer Today! Huzzah!

In the email, there were no instructions on accepting the offer; is that something that will be discussed in the fromal acceptance letter or is there something I should be doing? The offer is not showing up in TMDSAS yet.

Congrats on your acceptance! They will send you a letter in the mail with a form that you have to mail back and it may take a few days for it to show up on TMDSAS. At least that was the case for me.

Congrats, so 12/8 was the last prematch batch day? What time did you get your acceptance?
 
I was hoping to go on the second visit just to get a closer look at the school without the pressure of an interview, but decided to wait until after I visited Texas Tech to decide. I wish they elaborated on what exactly you would be doing when you came down for a second look. I hope it is more than a tour and lunch with the MS students.

Yeh, I feel the pain, too. I thought they said their last prematch batch offer would be in mid-late December? Who knows, I feel like theres so much information out there that theres some speculation in it all. Guess well have to hang in there.

Also, I was reading the A&M thread about JAMP and other early admissions programs and how those students aren't included in the match or something like that?... So maybe that gives us a slightly greater chance of getting in since they're all excluded? Plus the website says that SA has a FASTS program too that automatically accepts all its students... does anybody know anything about those type of programs and how they work at UTHSCSA? Do they hurt our chances of getting in?!

I definitely do not have the nerve to call, and only one person has "confirmed" the 3rd batch. Any other 3rd batchers out there?
 
Im having difficulty deciding which school to rank higher in match, San Antonio or A&M. So far I prematched at San Antonio. I liked both schools when I interviewed but which school would you guys rank higher?

Are you big into cities or small college towns? Think about where you grew up, and went to college and where you've visited. Where are you happier?

Does either school have any programs you really dig?

And of course, if it's a factor for you, financial aid?
