Impressive match results... I was impressed with the school in general on my interview. The health sciences campus is a nice little bubble that I could see myself living in.

Just received an invitation to interview. I withdrew my application. Good luck all.

Hey everyone!

Within the next week or so I'm going to do some apartment hunting in Toledo. I was wondering, are there any females out there looking for a roommate for next year?? I'd really like to split a 2 BR apartment and plus, I think it'd be great to live with another med student! I'm really easy-going and friendly.

So if there are any females interested, please PM me!! Thanks! 🙂

Accepted here today; interviewed March 1st. Does anyone know what opportunities there are for scholarships?

Congrats! Pretty quick turnaround... atleast from the 4 to 6 weeks they said at my interview day.

Thanks! Yeah they told us that we would hear the last week of March/first week of April, so it is a week or two ahead of the expected time. Good luck to you!

Does anyone have any information about how many people they interview all together? I am waiting for an email...I only interviewed about 2 weeks ago. but I just want to know my chances. I am really interested in going to this school. ugh I hate this waiting game.

According to the MSAR, they interview 500 for a class of 175

Those are good odds. It's hard to tell how much they accept outright and how much they like to WL...but to fill a class of 175, you probably need to hand out over 350 acceptances... out of 500, that's not bad

edit: this is just hypothetical from what I've seen at other schools I've interviewed at, and just other schools in general. It takes about 2x offers to fill all the seats... can't say for sure this applies to Toledo.

I agree with your analysis, Pedie Packs

I know that it has been suggested in other places on SDN to contact your individual interviewers to see what they might suggest. Afterall, they probably have the best idea of how the admission committee works. E-mail them and say something like "I have a very genuine interest in attending UTCOM, what steps can I take to make sure I get off the waiting list..."

Hope this helps

I also think that contacting your interviewer is a good idea. Can I ask when you interviewed? and when did you find out...Good luck to you. I hope that you get an offer soon.

thanks guys! i have been getting that a lot.. to go ahead and email my interviewers, and i am also looking to see if some one can write me a recommendation letter, maybe that would help.. i interviewed early march, can't remember the date now, but i just got the letter today....

You got it by email right? Oh and I have also been wondering about additional letters of recommendation...is this acceptable? What do others think of this or have other people done this?

I've also heard of submitting additional letters of recommendation. I don't believe this is done very frequently and I doubt that it'd help tremendously unless the additional writer has something significant to say that wasn't already stated by any other letter writers (of course you probably wouldn't know this due to the confidential nature of most LORs).

I received my decision via e-mail and then in the form of a letter a few days later.

Hey everyone-- it's been a while since the facebook group for the class of 2014 has been mentioned on here, so I thought I'd bring it up! It's much later in the applications season, and many people have already made a decision where to attend next year... so if you're one of those who decided on Toledo, join the group! It's called "University of Toledo College of Medicine class of 2014"-- look it up and meet you're future classmates!

Hey guys,

Just wondering about the waitlist and if it's ranked? Is there high and low priority? Just curious to know my chances coming of :x

There are actually two facebook groups for the c/o 2014 @ UToledo - one that you mentioned, plus one that is named "UTCOM Class of 2014"

As I recall, the waitlist is ranked, plus I believe once it is formed they will contact you and let you know your chances of getting in, based on past waitlist movement.

Accepted here last Tuesday! Woohoo! First acceptance...was on hold (and still am) at OSU and Case so way to go Toledo! Interviewed March 8th

I interviewed on March 8 as well...getting nervous now. I haven't heard anything!!! Did you get accepted on the 30th? If so, that's an amazing turnaround!!! Congratulations!!

Hey guys I got my decision letter (rejected) from this school a while ago. However, there was a link on the letter regarding their masters program which provides a guaranteed interview to their school of medicine so long as the student maintains a certain GPA. I don't have my decision letter any longer and I was wondering if anyone that does can post the link or pm it to me. Thank you

So I just found out today via snail mail that I was waitlisted.

Hey there, i'm chillin in limbo with ya. Got it last week. Hope it works out for at least one of us haha. At least it wasn't a rejection is all we can say. Good luck!

So I have been on the waitlist at UT-COM since mid-Feb. and it is about that time when schools begin to rank their waitlist and there is some movement off the waitlist. Does anyone know if UT ranks their waitlist? Anyone have any idea how much movement their usually is off the waitlist?

Thanks for any input. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting.

I believe they do rank their waitlist - they typically also provide an estimate of how likely you are to get accepted off the waitlist (based on past movement of course). I can't comment on how much waitlist movement is likely to occur but I doubt there will be much movement until after May 15 - Toledo interviews mid-way through this month, afterall.

at still premed..sorry bout the late reply, i actually got a letter, wont know where on the WL i am till may... they rank it high, middle, and low priority!

Hey, all. I'm a current MS-2 at UTCOM. Just a few bits of info you all might be interested in regarding some topics I've seen posted here recently:

Regarding our match this year... it was pretty good. 10 matched in ortho, 12 in anesthesia, at least 10 in radiology (maybe more), 1 ENT, 1 Plastics. Many in our MS-4 class applied to peds, so that was by far our highest matching specialty, with 24. EM was somewhere in the 15-20 range. Somewhere around 20 matched into IM. There were 6 who did not match.

Regarding the waitlist... movement through the list can vary a lot by class. Our MS-3 class went through about 20% of the waitlist to fill the class, while my class went through 60% of the waitlist to fill the class. We were still taking people off the waitlist during orientation week.

Best of luck to you all!:luck:

I was wondering what the first 2 years are like in terms of class schedule. I would assume the anatomy block is the busiest, could you describe a typical week for us?

How much lecture/lab time per day?

How often are you tested?

If I remember correctly the lectures are audio recorded and placed online, is this true?

Is there any other huge pluses to UT besides the on-campus testing center and great board scores? Thanks in advance

Preclinical class schedule:

Year 1:

Block 1 - Biochem/Cell bio/Mol bio (12 wks)
Lecture generally 8AM-3PM, although some days there will be histology lab in the afternoon from 1-3 PM instead of lecture. 5 exams - 1 after the first 2 wks, 1 after the 2nd 2 wks, the 3rd one is 4 wks after the 2nd, and the 4th one is 4 wks after the 3rd. Cumulative final is 2 days after the 4th exam. You will probably have a Clinical Decision Making exam the same day or within 1 day of the final

Block 2 - Human structure and development (16 wks)
Anatomy/embryo/microanatomy lecture 8AM-12PM. In the afternoons, either lecture, histology lab, or gross lab (times vary). 3 long exam days - practical in the morning, written in the afternoon for each of the 3 units. Unit 1 is 7 wks, and easy to let yourself get behind.

Block 3 - Neuroscience/Behavioral science (10 wks)
Generally neuro 8-10 AM, Behavioral 10AM-12 PM. Some neuroanatomy labs, optional attendance. Neuro has 3 exams - a written in the middle, a written at the end, and also somewhere in the middle is a neuroanatomy practical. Behavioral has 2 exams, one in the middle and a final.

All year - Clinical Decision Making (ethics/health law/economics/policy/public health/problem-based learning sessions/clinical history and physical exam) - lectures and labs in the skills center spread throughout the year, generally at least 1x/week. 3 written exams, some skills exams on history taking and physical exam. Random ethics assignments and an ethics project.

Year 2

Block 4 - Immunity and Infection (13 wks)
Lecture 9AM - 12PM (don't be fooled, this class is probably the most work of any block, and this is coming from someone with a M.S. in microbio); 4 short labs spread throughout the course. Weekly quizzes (10 total, get to drop 2 lowest grades). 3 exams - 1 covering the first half, 1 covering the 2nd half, and a cumulative final 2 days after the 2nd exam.

Block 5 - Organ Systems (All year) - physiology, pharm, path, pathophys
1-3PM lecture during block 4; 8-12PM lecture when block 4 ends. Also, after block 4 ends, Org. sys. includes path labs, 1x/week (sometimes 2x/wk) from 1-3 or 1-4 PM. 2 short exams during block 4. 5 more exams spread through the rest of the year. 10 lab quizzes (can drop lowest 2 lab quiz scores)

Clinical Decision Making (Starts when block 4 ends, goes thru the end of the year). Same material as in 1st year, but more emphasis on physical exam. Also includes 1.5 wks on stats/epidemiology/evidence-based medicine) Lectures in the afternoons 1-3PM, more often than in first year. 2 written exams, 1 clinical case exam (similar to the cases we get in PBL), 1 OSCE exam. Similar ethics assignments and ethics project as in 1st year.

And, yes, the lectures are audio-recorded and posted online. Some days the lectures will take longer to post - sometimes they are up by 1 PM, other days they won't be up until 6 PM or later. There are archives of previous year's lectures if you want to listen ahead.

I hope I didn't forget anything, and I hope this is helpful. Good luck! :luck:

Big props to SpartanBlueJay2 for that 👍👍!

Has anyone with an interview after 3/8 hear anything yet?

How did you know when it's going to be discussed. Did you call and ask?

I hope you get an acceptance as well! and do go ahead and call...they are SUPER nice on the phone.

Just got an invite too... unfortunately, by the time I was able to call back, there was only one day left. It's going to be a scramble to get there, but I'll take it.

Wow, congrats and good luck to the both of you! 👍

Thanks! Booking a trip for Toledo from DC is a nightmare though. Anyone know of a bus or other transport that runs from Detroit's DTW to Toledo?
