Hey guys, good luck to everyone trying to get into Drexel. I'm a fourth year year at Jefferson (for a few more weeks anyways) and am coming to Drexel for residency next year. Feel free to shoot my any questions or anything you may have if you end up getting accepted there, even if its about life in Philly.

And...if you do get accepted (to Drexel or one of the other Philly schools)...I'm also looking to recruit male med students for a scientific project I'm involved in. The project pays extremely well (in the ball park of being able to pay your rent with beer money left over) and takes up only a half hour a week.

Best of luck with your apps!

That project sounds awfully shady

What does it involve?

Going on 13 wks post-interview, Final decision Apr 8th. What the -blam!- is going on?

anyone filling out the financial aid scholarship info and know how long the essay should be?

Yea I wanted to know this too. I just got a Final decision update today 4/26. Interview invite 12/16/10, interview 2/9/11.
Rumor has it that it either means acceptance or rejection. And if it says "a decision has been made," then it means waitlist. My status just changed to "final decision" recently, too.

I understand the Final decision vs a decision situation.

It seems like the majority of people with a final decision on this thread are accepted. Of course, people who get rejected after a final decision may be less inclined to post their results. So I was just wondering, if a final decision-reject is a common occurrence.

I finally withdrew today. Good luck everyone 🙂

Yeah, it happens plenty, and there are anecdotes on this and previous years' threads -- you're correct that people are more likely to just drift quietly off instead of posting the results here when the letter actually comes. Though Drexel has a pretty big wait list, they definitely reject a lot of people straight-out.

That said, you know your own application, so could probably make an educated guess about whether it's thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Also, don't freak out about the background check e-mail coming or not. Receiving one (after a Final Decision, and between New Years and May 15) seems to always be an accept, but not getting one doesn't mean anything.

The logic seems right. I interviewed in mid-January, finally got the "A decision has been reached" status change on the website. Got the letter two days ago for the waitlist.

The thing is, it's implausible for me to make an educated guess. I have a MCAT close to a 40, but an undergrad GPA just below a 3.0 (tough institution, but still, no excuses and shows laziness on my part). It really could go either way, it depends how the committee looks at my application. I know in med school, the USMLE's are far more important than class grades, so I hope the committee especially takes my standardized test taking skills into consideration.

The more I think about it, the more I've become resigned to a rejection.

This happened to me a few weeks ago but I am just deciding to share my story now, anyone hear of a similar story?

I interviewed in Jan, there was one faculty interview and mine was with Dr. Parrish, at the end of my interview he said "I can see you are a genuine guys and I like you. You have nothing to worry about, you have an acceptance to this school unless of course you do something like punch the student interviewer in the face"

I thought the joke was a little unprofessional, but I was so excited to hear him say that I really didn't care. Nonetheless i received my descion after the agonizing wait and it was a rejection! Not even a waitlist spot.

I called Dr. Parrish to ask what could have gone wrong and he told me "Yea I remeber you, our interview went really well, but I looked at your file and you did not have a very good student interview."
Not that I didn't take the student interview seriously, but I definitely didn't connect with the student like I did the faculty. And after he said that he gave me the impression his opinion mattered more than the students, so I wasn't very bothered by a not so ideal student interview.
I was very shocked and confused as to why he would say that to me if he wasn't sure I would get the acceptance.

Am I crazy or is what he did to me completely unprofessional and out of line?

I was about to not attend another interview bc I would rather go to Drexel (but I did end up attending it and loved the school). Should I write admissions and complain?
O yeah... and he is the Associate Dean of Admissions!! How is this possible?

All the current students I've talked to indicated that the student interview weighs very highly in the admissions process. It sounds like that may have been your downfall. No matter how much your faculty interviewer likes you (probably even if he is the dean of admissions), they can't guarantee you admission on the day of your interview.

Also, you should have your funny bone x-rayed because that is hilarious.

this may be an incredibly stupid question, but better safe than sorry:

I just got the e-mail reminder to submit the application for institutional scholarships and have not yet set up my e-mail/accounts necessary to check all of that. I've submitted my FAFSA but haven't done anything else through Drexel yet.
So here's the dumb question: By creating an e-mail and the other accounts, am I effectively stating my intent to enroll? I'm currently waiting to hear from a few schools I've interviewed yet and haven't made a final decision. Thanks for the help! 😳

I thought the whole interview process at Drexel was a joke. Halfway through the presentation of the school I had to leave hop on a shuttle for 20 minutes then cross some streets and finally get to the hospital where the interview was at. I then got to shadow the physician while he visited a couple of patients. Then we went to a back empty room and he interviewed me. I noticed he just wanted to leave. My interview went horrible but it’s not like it matters anymore. He asked me if I had any questions so I asked several and he said those should have been answered during the presentation that I missed.

The student interview was lame too. It was in a busy dinning hall (food was meh and only 7 dollars worth of credit). I could not hear what the guy was saying, except that he enjoyed playing video games.

very similiar experience here too (although not Dr. Parrish). My student interviewer seemed stressed and very disinterested from the get-go. I really did try and connect with the student interviewer somehow, but it just wasnt gonna happn...got the the rejection 19 weeks later in the mail. oh well, im just happy to be in somewhere

Anyone else from the March 7 interview crew get a "final decision". I feel like I was pushed through to committee and onto a final decision rather quickly. Not sure if this timing is good, bad, or meaningless. Either way, I wait patiently.

I had a (mostly) identical situation. I interviewed the second week of January with Dr. Parrish, and he said the exact same thing. "I'm not really supposed to do this, but as long as you don't punch your student interviewer in the face, you will be accepted here."

Of course, I felt extremely confident after that. And although I was accepted, I did think it highly unusual that he would say that.

My interviewer was really really curious to know where else I applied, and then asked my status at one school in particular. When I told him I was rejected there, he said it was ridiculous that they wouldn't accept such a strong candidate, and that he had some "choice words" for the admissions people there. The interview was cut short when his beeper went off. I was waitlisted. I agree that it's not really fair for interviewers to suggest that you are going to get accepted. Even if they plan to give a good report, they can't guarantee anything.

My student interview was also kind of odd... they talked a lot and barely let me get a word in, and didn't really ask me any questions. They also seemed to be a bit grumpy. I can see why the admissions office thinks student interviews are a good idea, I'm just not convinced all the students are well-prepared to be interviewing applicants.

Of course I'm disappointed I didn't get in straight away (I'm still hopeful about the waitlist!), but I don't blame either interviewer for my ending up on the waitlist. I think that we all face the same random selection of interviewers, who make up a pretty representative sample of human beings.

I do love Drexel, and if I'm not accepted at my other schools I'll definitely be reapplying here next year.

Was also there March 7th.

Still "under review by the admissions committee. No decision has yet been made"

This is taking forever.....

I interviewed 2/2 and I am still under review by committee. This is ridiculous.

I would try calling them. I interviewed 2/9 and got my final decision last week.

got my financial award today, had a small heart attack. guess tuition went up...

Interview in early, early March. Still under review by member of committee. I called today asking about the app and I didn't get a good idea for a timeline at all...

It sure would be nice to know before May 15th...

Rejection letter received 13 weeks post-interview. Not feeling too deflated as I am happy to be going where I'm going! Good luck to everyone else waiting. Over and out, Drexel thread!

I interviewed on 2/3 and the decision is still "Your interview has been scheduled...."

I called them and the woman who answered (who was very polite, btw) said that things were taking a bit longer than usual, but that my application was somewhat further delayed. By what, I have no idea. 😕

Dear Drexel,

Its been a fun ride.. but I have stroked out enough from your FA.. so I will be withdrawing. Hope my acceptance goes to someone who really needs it and has nothing else!

So, is anyone else moving from very far to Philly? I'm currently living in France and am not returning until July 27th. I'm quite worried about how to find and rent an apt between my return and the start of classes.

Suggestions? Does anyone know of some way to get temp housing for a month or so while I look around?

Mine was kind of the opposite. My faculty interviewer said within the first 30 seconds of the interview that I would be a "detriment to all other med students" because of my lack of advanced biology and chemistry courses. (Guess she thought I would hold back the rest of the class somehow.) She later commented on my "severe lack of volunteer experiences" and extracurricular activities (I thought I had a sufficient amount). Anyway, 8 weeks later I got the acceptance package. I guess she just wanted to gauge my reactions...

Well doesn't matter now anyway, just withdrew. Good luck everyone on the WL!

+1 in the rejection column. Good luck everyone else!

The first thing my interviewer told me was he thought I was not ready for medical school. Then he proceeded to tell me how the interviewee before me was a better candidate... Pretty awful experience.

Oh.. and I was WL

withdrew today, hopefully someone gets it!

I also had a terrible interview experience. *Shrug*

Anybody know how long it takes to get a letter after the status change to final decision has been reached?

Anybody know how long it takes to get a letter after the status change to final decision has been reached?

I've been following the thread for a while, and I've read responses that say it ranges from 4 days later (even if the person lives half an hour away) to weeks.

My status finally changed yesterday to final decision (was that when yours did, too?). My worst fear is that because it's so close to the deadline and they see how much they're backed up, that they just go through all the remaining applications and stamp giant "NO"s on them, just to get them out. 🙁 My only hope is that for the number of people saying they are withdrawing, it forces admissions to rethink their decisions on our behalf in a more positive mindset. :xf:

Good luck to us, I guess.

On a side note, has anybody actually been ACCEPTED recently? That'll provide some hope, but I guess there's nothing we can do now but wait.

Last acceptance posted here was 4/5 if you read back. That *is* quite awhile ago, so I imagine there have been other acceptances since then.

Good luck!

So does anyone else still have the "No decision has yet been made regarding your admission status to Drexel of University." ?

I interviewed here March 7th, and I'm going on 9 weeks post-interview with no word yet....

Yes. Interviewed 2/2.

Woohoo. Going on 15 weeks post interview with no decision.

If my file is not brought up at the committee tomorrow, I'm going to request a refund for my application money. This is beyond ridiculous.

bumped old waitlist thread in pre-Med Allo. forum for those of us waitlisted... gl!

The sad part is that you still have to tack on at LEAST 1 more week from your count when the status changes to "A final decision has been made" because of the mailing period.

For those of you that have received decisions by mail, how long was your wait after the final status change? I've been following the thread and have usually seen about a week, but remember reading some who have had a multiple-week wait before they got something in the mail.
