exact same for me. Think I might give them a call today. I didn't send it certified, just a stamp so I understand it could take a few days to get there (esp considering the holiday) but that still leaves a week for them to let me know they got it.

speak of the devil, just got an email that I am complete.

Even though it is still early, remember that they get the largest amount of applications of any school and it takes time to process 1000s of apps. I sent mine the first day it came out and it still took around 10 days to be verified as complete. Now it will take even longer. Patience.

"Your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, no final decision has been made and the Admissions Committee has placed your application on hold for re-review at a later date. If we require any further documentation or if your status changes, we will contact you immediately. We do sincerely appreciate your interest in our program. Thank you for your patience."

... anyone else in limbo?

For anyone who is waiting, they definitely send a "File Complete" email. It appears that the "re-review" status is just the generic status because the email I got today said that my app is complete and ready for them to review, and they will review it in a timely manner or whatever. Mailed my secondary on 6/28.

Haha me too! Well I got confirmation that my secondary was received since I haven't sent in my LORs yet. Mailed it 7/6.

For the "what will you be doing from now until 2011" question, if we don't have definite plans yet, should we tell them what we're currently doing and then say we'll up date them later?

ex (not in proper english but just a run down)-
finishing M.S. for August degree conferral, applying for occupation X and Y and volunteer position Z, will update at A timeframe?

It means tell them what you are currently doing and anticipate doing until 2011. So if you are applying for occupation X, tell them you are anticipating working on whatever field of occupation X and volunteering at position Z. You don't need to offer an update.

Okay, as for the question about your biggest non-academic achievement...

Did it have to occur during your college years? My reason for asking is that I'm a retired world-championship level Irish dancer, so arguably my biggest accomplishment would be winning our National Championship competition several times over. However, I don't want to put off the committee, since the last time I won was when I was 13... Of course I've danced a bit in college, but it has mostly been recreational, never competitive...

What do you guys think?

I think this is a nice example. However, it is concerning that you have not done anything that you consider worthy since you were 13. For the sake of it, I would go with an example that is more recent. Even though being championship dancer is amazing, it was a long time ago.

Ouch, that one hurt a bit

I gotta disagree. The whole point of that question is to showcase something you are proud of, and give a more rounded view of the applicant, in addition to just grades, mcats, and ec's.

Personally, I wrote about an athletic experience during high school. It's not concerning to include something from way back when if you've got something of note in your ec's during college.

I disagree with this as well. I wrote about something I did in high school. The question asks what you feel is your most significant non-academic achievement. If you believe your most significant non-academic achievement occurred at the age of 13 there is nothing wrong with that. I would consider Irish dancing at 13 a great achievement. Plus, it sounds more interesting than something you might have done in college.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Just to explain why I chose that experience... the question seems to ask what you feel your biggest non-academic achievement is, ever. Maybe I'm a huge slacker, but I felt that nothing really could compare to being a world level dancer... Just for the record, I've been extremely busy in college with ECs, chaired major university events, presided over clubs, but still... in the end, its just not as impressive as I felt what I did with Irish dance. But that's not to say that I haven't accomplished anything else worth mentioning since then...

i bet it doesn't matter. i was going to put down something from high school, but didn't want to have to address why i didn't continue this activity through college.

Hey has anyone notice the status site doing strange things? My status first read "make sure you turn in your letters.." and now it is this:
We have not yet received your GW Secondary Application. Please note that if you have submitted it recently that it does take some time to process. You will receive an email immediately when it is processed. Please note that this status may not reflect this change immediately as it is only updated on a weekly basis.

any interpretation or similar statuses?

Okay I just spent a while reading last years thread, and I think I figured it out: GW has two people review each application before making a decision. So "on hold for re-review" means one person's already looked at it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is how I understood people's posts in last years GW thread 🙂

if i only filled up half of the "why GW" question, do you think it looks bad?

"What is your specific interest in the MD program at GW?"

I find this question confusing.

It is basically asking why you want to attend GWU right?? And the next part of the question is kind of reduntant.

THis is my first secondary please help...

 You're over-thinking it. They just want to know, "Why GWU?" Then the second part of the question, "What opportunities would you take advantage of as a student here?" is just asking what kinds of activities or programs at GWU you would do (clubs, organizations, international study, etc etc).

Does that clear things up? 🙂

hey guys

my AMCAS has not been verified yet but i have my secondary already. are we allowed to mail in the secondary or wait for verification? thanks

I am still awaiting verification too. I went ahead and sent my secondary in and actually just received an e-mail from GW telling me that they received it. As soon as I am verified (with letters in of course) I'll be complete.

Same here 👍

Status now reads:
Your file is now complete. At this point we have received all the necessary credentials including your secondary application and your letters of recommendation in order for your application to be reviewed. While the committee does its best to review applications in a timely manner, please be aware that in order to do a thorough review of your file it may be several weeks until you hear from us again. We greatly appreciate your patience during the application process.

Guess this means I am waiting for the first of two people to look at my file, and then it will change to "ready for re-review" or something like that, correct?

congrats! when were you complete?

Im trying to remember. I had the essays written prior to receiving the secondary, then I sent the application fed ex... So I want to say about July 5th?

Congrats on the interviews!

How did you guys receive notification? By email, by status change on the website, or both?

Woot! Interview Invite for Sept 9 I believe. I was complete sometime last week or late the week before

Major congrats on the interviews! You guys aren't early decision but just regular application cycle, right?

Did you guys get the "hold" status page before getting invites? Just curious. Thanks and congrats! 👍

I had a hold status until the invite email. 🙂 Good :luck: to you too, I'm sure you'll hear from them soon as well.

Oh, and I applied regular decision, non-MSTP.

Did you receive a hold message on your status page?..or did those with interview invites receive a hold message?

Oh and funny thing, my status still says "On hold for re-review at a later date..." even though I received an email with an interview invite.

I used to live in the DC area, so if anyone needs a good wine/dinner recommendation, hit me up.

Well, congratulations to all with interview invites! That still leaves hope for me and a few others here who are on hold!

Did you get an email when your status switched to "on hold," or was that always your status? Mine is "we will review it when we can," however I was not marked complete until the 15th- so I may just be switched a bit later. Any idea?

No email..just a few days after being complete, I checked my status and I was on "hold"

Would handwriting the answers in be bad. I freakin' filled the secondary out twice only to lose it, I don't think I can put myself through that again...

congrats to those who got interview invites!!

it's beginning again already .... as soon as i heard people were getting interviews i quick logged on to check my status ... and then just in case checked it again ten mins later lol

Sweet I got an interview on the 9th too!

Verified July 1. Complete July 13th. Invite July 19th!
That was fast!

Wow, I'm surprised to hear interview invites are already being sent, congrats!!!

I'm still waiting for one more LOR before my app is complete with GWU 🙁.

If you don't mind, those who got interview invites, what are your stats? 🙂
