I've been complete since august 5th and still no update. So i wouldn't worry if I were you.

One poster OGMD said "people have interviews but it doesn't look like "holds" have been posted yet. several people have called and apparently admissions told them they were on hold."

I gotta call them and check soon. What does HOLD mean? is that when they review you again later in the season?
Yes, I believe the next "season" is in November. I should probably call in too but i am little scared. UCSD IS MY LAST HOPE 🙁. I heard you should ask for this guy name Brian, can anyone confirm this.

Well i pretty much got rejected from all the schools i applied to. UCSD is my last standing school.

I have been complete since mid-August and have yet to hear anything. I just received a scholarship for my research work. Should I send an update to the school?

Baron, when were you complete? December isn't so bad...I looked at last year's thread and people who got invited in November were interviewing in March. Ouch!
Ah fiddlesticks I just called UCSD and apparently I am on HOLD, but this change in status hasn't been reflected on the website. The lady said they will make a FINAL DECISION within one month.
I did speak with a man named Brian Zeglen. Just called to ask something random... He was very nice...looked at my app... told me how many apps they had received and how many they had a chance to review.... said it would take approximately 4 weeks for me to hear from them... that was on Aug. 25 🙁 nothing yet...

FYI... that's the director of admissions, he also is the same guy that will call you when you get in.

I applied to 20 schools; didn't have the money to apply to 30 schools. My stats are horrible, which makes me wonder how I EVEN GOT a secondary from UCSD. I submitted my primary June 1st. Yes, i very aware that my chances of getting into med skool is pretty much zero. Guess i can't live the dream forever 🙁. It would be awesome if you, OGMD, and I got in though that would be ironic.
How can you say you've been rejected from 20 schools? I don't even know if there are 20 MD schools that reject people at this stage of the game.
Take a deep breath and gear up for the long haul.
I just had a very depressing talk with Brian and he said that i was placed on HOLD pool of rejects. Basically there are different pools of Hold and I did not meet the cut. 🙁

I am really sorry that you got some bad news.....
I called the admissions office today, and talked to someone (a woman).
She told me that the admission committee already reviewed my application,
and sent it back...She said that these apps are reviewed on a later date again, since it is still early in the cycle.
How exactly are you able to find out which pools of holds are you in?
Dont bother talking to that lady, she is just secretary and honestly she really doesn't know anything (I know because I called several times). I recommend that you personally call Brian Geglen. He is actually the admission coordinator. He will tell exactly where u are in terms of ranking and interview. No BS. I wish you the best of luck my friend

When I interviewed in September they said they predicted they would start giving out acceptances on either November 9th or November 16th. Was anyone that interviewed more recently given a more exact date on when they would start handing out acceptances?

anyone else brave enough to call and ask about their status? I was complete mid-August and haven't heard anything.
I called them a little bit ago and the woman who answered told me that they would not be extending me an interview, but that the status on the website wont be changing for a while. So y'all shouldn't be afraid to call in, because even though i'm sad it's nice to know what was actually going on. Complete 7/28.

1) interview invite
2) on hold - possibly get an interview invite in January
3) Possibly on hold - possibly going to get a rejection
4) rejection.
He said which ever pile you are in, you should hear back in 3-4 weeks about where you stand in the process.
I myself was not good news.....
Trying to stay positive in this application process is difficult!

Has anyone gotten a rejection pre-secondary (i.e. was screened out?). I got the "we received your AMCAS" back in late July and I still haven't heard whether or not they'll even give me a secondary.
Just wondering if they will let you know if you're not receiving one or if they do a sort of "silent pre-secondary rejection."

When were you all complete? I too was complete one month ago, does anyone have any idea how long it takes to get placed in one of those "piles?" I would not mind interviewing in January, but I would really like to know if they have already put me in the rejection pile.

I called UCSD earlier today and talked to Brian. He was very nice, although the news was not so nice. Turns out I'm in pile 3, and only very few of us will get interviews. Complete on 8/17, and he said I'd hear about my status officially in the next 3-4 weeks. Oh well, congrats to those who have gotten interviews, and good luck to everyone!

With those stats and being IS it is hard to fathum just who UCSD IS interviewing if you are in the unlikely to get an interview pile. That is bad news for many of us.

He addressed what prompted the change, why we learn clinical skills so early in our medical education, how the current students are being affected by the changes, etc. Some of you may find his comments useful. I think they sent out the number in the email after they received your primary...I'd probably ask for Brian Z or ask to know what pile you are in.
I'll be calling tomorrow as well =)
I had an email from him that had his phone number... Im sure you can also find it online... If not just PM me and Ill give it to you ( I hope thats not illegal or something 😀 )

I didn't talk to Brian, but the person I spoke to said they would make an interview decision in 2-4 weeks (I completed my secondary 2 weeks ago).

From the post above me, can I infer an interview decision takes 3-5 weeks from completion? I was just marked complete yesterday and want to get a feel for the wait I'm in for.

Maybe they do it in a semi-rolling fashion, and that is when they expect to make the next decisions? Maybe it is the form answer they tell everyone? Either way, I won't start worrying unless it has been over 4-5 weeks and I haven't heard.

I was complete 9/8 and offered an interview 9/30 so it seems that this is a correct time frame and possibly on the shorter side. All the best of luck!
