Anyone get post-interview waitlist emails yet?

To the pre-interview group as a whole:

Know that this is DEFINITELY NOT the end of the road of your app at UCSD, despite what someone posted about what he/she read on past year app threads. It simply means your app will be re-reviewed up against another group of applicants. Be mindful that numbers alone do not determine whether you will have success in any school's app process.

Best of luck to ALL of you and DON'T LET YOUR CHIN DRAG!!!! IT IS ONLY OCTOBER!!! 😀

+1 to the IS pre-interview hold group here for the second year in a row. Thank you for the encouragement, too. It really is disheartening, though 🙁

Mine was sent to spam, so be sure to check.

Also guys....I am sure that most of you who called Brian before the decisions were let out were told specifically NOT to post things in order to avoid widespread panic. Give the guy a break. The last thing he needs are 100 calls a day from neurotic premeds.

I'm not saying don't call, but if he asks you not to post things....don't post things.

After catching up on this thread, I checked my spam folder, where I found the good ol' rejection email. Can't say I'm too surprised about this.

IS, 3.45, 34Q.

that blows. would mind sharing a complete date? my stats are fairly close to yours and nothing in my inbox/spam folder at the moment...

For any current UCSD students, what does your class and exam schedule look like for year 1? (Like time in lecture? frequency of exams? open time during the week?)

Many thanks!

Wow really? why did you get rejected with that good of a GPA and mcat?

I have no idea. I have really good EC with research, comm service, shadowing, and clinical. I think the process is very random, I have an interview at John's Hopkins as OOS but got the boot from UCSD...thats life. 🙄

I hope you don't mind me asking, but any luck with other california schools?

I got rejected from 2 of them and I got an interview at 1 of the UC's. The others I haven't heard from yet. I'm really hoping for an acceptance in Cali, I love all the schools I've seen so far here. Good luck to everyone with interviews! I hope acceptances are right around the corner 🙂

Hey! Unfortunately, I cannot accurate comment on the stucture of the first year curriculum b/c I am an MS2 and we had a completely different schedule last year.

I do know, however, that they spend considerably less time in class than we spent during 1st year and have a much more integrated presentation of the basic science components. In addition, they have already begun their intro to clinical medicine component and actual preceptorships...whereas we did not begin till winter quarter of 1st year and did not begin preceptorships till this year.

In terms of exams: In the new curriculum my understanding is that the students have NON-GRADED quizzes at the end of every week in order to track your progress and then one large graded exam at the end of every block. Then at the end of the school year they will be test on EVERYTHING learned during the first year.

If you are accepted and matriculate in to UCSD for next school year you will be apart of the first class that spends their entire first two years in the new Medical Education Building (should be complete by August 2011).

discussion of new curriculum...check it out

Hi there...long term lurker but first time poster! I figured I have been checking this site neurotically for months to see the admissions process unfold.

Interview invite yesterday; OOS. So thrilled for the chance to be in socal!

Congratulations!

When did you submit your secondary application? I hope you enjoy your visit.

Anyone apply to prime nd get an interview? How does that process work? They are separate processes here so does it mean separate interview invites?

Congratulations!

When did you submit your secondary application? I hope you enjoy your visit.

I received the secondary at the beginning of September, submitted it 9/29 and was marked complete by October. Good luck everyone!

Hopefully it is sunny when you come out!

Congrats!

Congrats!

Thanks! my interview is scheduled for the middle of Feb. (for the other premeds, earliest available dates were in the middle of jan)
Hoping for lots of sunshine =)

I'm a Texas resident, with secondary submitted 9/29, and marked complete 10/7. Not a peep since--I even checked my spam folder. The "Applicant Status" page on their website concurs that they haven't sent word of a pre-interview hold, interview invite, or final decision letter.

Just putting that out in there in case anyone in the same boat was getting nervous.

I have the exact same timing as you for UCSD, as well as Mayo with LOR request (just saw that post). Patience is critical! I'm hoping to have some sort of decision from UCSD within a couple of weeks.

im in the same boat as you guys complete and haven't heard anything in regards to interview status but i guess its a good thing right because then we aren't on hold yet and can hope for that interview invite any time now 😍

UGH just got the waitlist email (interviewed on Oct 21), which is essentially the reject list because the letter goes "We do anticipate that we will make offers to some of the applicants in the Acceptable Pool, though these offers will most likely not start being made until May 2011."

granted, my stats weren't good enough anyways (3.70, 35R, IS) but I kept holding on to stupid hope.

35/3.7 not good enough, don't think that's the problem

No, the waitlist email is simply that - a waitlist. I talked to Brian and he said they accept anywhere between 30-80 people off the waitlist which leaves between a 10-26% of getting accepted. So there's still hope.

just checked my spam folder...got the dreaded interview denial. 3.8 GPA, 37 MCAT, California resident, but went to college out of state. I've had interviews at Duke, Yale, Penn, and Hopkins...but I guess UCSD didn't want me =(

Sorry to hear that -- sounds like you will have some other impressive options, though.

When did you submit your secondary?

Sorry to hear about the rejections. Has anyone been rejected pre-secondary yet? Or are these all post-secondary?

Hi
If I received my secondary invite on october 5, when is my letters of rec due?

Hi
If I received my secondary invite on october 5, when is my letters of rec due?

To answer the question you posted in every UC schools' thread, the LORs are due by the due date given by each school (ex: UCSD wants all of your material by 30 days after you rec'd the initial secondary invite; Davis wants everything by 45 days etc.). Ideally, you want to send them in as soon as you get your invite, but you won't be complete until all the pieces they want are submitted.

So for you, your letters are due by the 5th, along with everything else (essays, payment - although they give you some buffer room for your $$ since it's by mail).

Primary received by UCSD on Nov 1, got a secondary on Nov 4.

This should be interesting... 😀

Not to burst your bubble or anything but I got my secondary within 6 hours of UCSD receiving my primary. I ended up getting put on hold for interview :/

BTW, Is anyone who is on hold for interview planning on sending a letter of interest? I know those are usually done after getting the interview but I was told that this could also be a time to send one.

Has anyone heard about acceptances/rejections yet today? They told us last week we could hear as early as today... :scared:

Does anyone know if UCSD is doing post interview rejections this year? I thought I remember hearing that at the interview, but I wanted to be sure. Any idea about numbers of rejections?

I also thought they said on interview day that they were doing post-interview rejections, but their website very clearly says that 45% of people are accepted post-interview and the rest are placed in the acceptable pool. So while I was initially feeling terrible but not horrible about being waitlisted, because I figured "At least I wasn't rejected," I now feel horrible because even though it's not a rejection per se, it feels like it's only because they couldn't reject me.

Don't worry, my bubble isn't burst... yet...

Has anyone received an interview invite here recently? If so, when were you complete? I submitted 10/3 and was marked complete 10/6.

On a related side note, is anyone else checking their UCLA and UCSD status, and get excited every time they log into UCSD's status page (because there are four "complete" actions, compared to UCLA's two? Just wondering!

That's not true at all. Brian said they did reject a bunch of people post interview. And the 45% acceptance rate after interview isn't completely accurate either. They eventually accept 45% of the people they interview. That includes people that are on the waitlist. So there's still hope yet. Its too early to start worrying!!!
