Has anyone on hold tried to send in an update lately? I remember there was a link for updates on the status page but now it's gone.

There was a deadline of Jan 8 for updates from on-hold people. Try emailing it directly to their admissions office?

I was told the earliest available date was mid-March, though I haven't received final confirmation for a particular date.
Doc love were you on hold before you got the interview? Congrats btw!

Also, anyone on hold for re review hear back?

I had to withdraw my interview spot. I reeallly hope one of you guys get it!!!

No. I submitted my secondary mid-October and didn't hear anything back until mid-January about an interview invite.

I sent my AMCAS back in July.. and still haven't received any word whether I'm going to get a secondary. So I broke down and finally called.. the lady told me I won't be getting a secondary and that they're going to send the notifications in a few weeks.

I figured I wasn't going to get a secondary lol... but I just wanted to know one way or the other.

Strange... my status changed to "final decision letter sent" months ago. but i never got a rejection letter in the mail. i guess they didn't want to waste a stamp.

Are you sure you posted on the right thread? I am pretty sure they reject by emails.

Well maybe it is an email... never got one of those either. here is a direct copy from UCSD status website:

Secondary Application Complete:
(including recommendations/payment) 08/13/2010
Invited for Interview: --
Hold for Interview: --
Final Decision Letter Sent: 10/22/2010

Strange.

I'm interviewing this coming Tuesday, Jan. 25. Anyone else out there? A friend who went to UCSD years ago told me that all you do is lounge in a hammock with gross anatomy in one hand and a pina colada in the other, developing the perfect tan in the cool ocean breeze. I think this is hearsay, I think, but such a powerful image gets stuck easily  I was complete 10/18, invite 11/22.

Can someone pm me the email/phone number of the person we were told to contact in the admissions office? It was the last information we received after the interviews.

Has anyone been invited after being on re-review?

I was put on hold in October. Got an invite in December for an interview a week later. Got waitlisted in January.

Congrats! I was put on hold around the same time, and sent them an update early Jan. But haven't heard anything yet. :xf:

The director of admissions stated on my interview day and again on the phone to me multiple times that they do not consider any additional information on your application after you have gone in for an interview, so I'm not sure where you are getting this.

Since I was waitlisted I asked the admin assistant if I could send in updates and she said that would be appropriate. I think it makes sense that they would not accept materials directly after the interview but since the waitlist is basically a free pool, I think it would benefit any of us to try to stand out. The way I see it, the worst thing they can do is not read my update letter.

In that case then, I agree with you. Do you think we should wait until near May to write an update? I think if we did it that way the update would be "fresher" in their minds.

Does anyone know if it's possible to appeal a rejection from here?

I submitted my secondary 11/19. Got an interview invite today. Granted, I'm mstp, but it seems like they are still giving out interviews. The interview is mid-February.

I guess that goes the same for me.. Thanks for posting. Just wonder why they don't just send the notifications now.. save everyone from this waiting game..

I hate to ask but do any of us with Interviews in early march even have a chance at an acceptance or is the class full by this time?

Physicians who do interviews are busy, busy people who would not waste their time interviewing us if there was no chance we'd get it.

People with March interviews (and I'm one of the last, I'm sure!) still have a shot. Maybe not quite as good as people who go early, but a shot nonetheless.

hopeful indeed

This question as been asked in the past, but does anyone know what's happening with the re-reviews? We're almost at the end of Jan. I emailed them about it, but havent heard back. In a week I might call them. The suspense is killing me.

I looked through last year's thread for UCSD and if i remember correctly, ppl on re-review didnt actually start hearing back for interviews until mid to late feb.

Hey so the suspense actually killed me and I called them last week, they said the earliest feedback we will hear from them will be in first week of February.

Sure, I'm hopeful and my March interview chances aren't as good as someone who interviewed in January.

But you'll see that there are people who are still on hold for an interview who are hopeful that they'll still be offered one! If you don't think it's worth your time, I'm sure one of them would gladly take your interview spot!

Thanks for making the call for all of us "on hold" so we don't have to die waiting.

I just got rejected for MSTP, but the email also solicited a response for whether I wanted to still be considered for MD-only. The email said, "A common question I get is whether or not being later in the process will hurt your chances of being accepted..I can assure you that your are NOT at any disadvantage in the MD only process."

I think updates just get filed and it will be fresh when they take our apps to committee but that could be now or later. You MIGHT be able to talk about more activities/experiences/reflections if you wait until May. I just like to get these things sent and out of the way. G'luck!

I just got an email this morning announcing that I'm swimming in the "acceptable pool." Interviewed 1/25. Time to pen that update letter aka "why do you have to play with my heart like this"

*sigh*

Interviewed 1/25 as well and no email 🙄

With my luck this probably means another week of waiting to be put in the acceptable pool.

Invite for interview after re-review, scheduled for March 31st.

I'm really excited, but I can't help the voice in the back of my head asking if March 31st affords a real potential to an offer of admission. Anything can happen, but I feel like it's the last day to interview!

I'm only interviewing about a week before you.

You're right that it's a late interview date, but I look at it this way: at the very least, I'm auditioning for the #1 spot on their wait list.

Also just got an interview after being on hold. 😀 Good luck everyone.

Congrats on your invites! Did you guys send an update letter?

When I interviewed last week, they made a point of saying that they give the same level of consideration to the last interview group as the first one, and that through years of experience with the process, they have become good at judging how to pace themselves to achieve this. Now, how true is this? I don't know. But I wouldn't lose hope just because you're one of the last interviews.

Good luck!

Withdrew today; couldn't justify the trip out there with UMich in-state tuition...Hopefully the interview slot goes to one of you!

That was kind of you! I would be happy to receive the spot, I can easily justify the trip, I can walk there at no cost what so ever!

Hey congrats! I too will be checking my email constantly hoping I get an invite.

Those of you who got an invite after re-review, were any of you OOS?

Alright, I guess that means I still have a shot. I'd gladly pay the money to go to the UCSD interview. I need an excuse to get out of this snow... lol.

OOS. Interviewed 1/25, and also placed in the acceptable pool. 🙁

What's up guys!

just wanted to share some info on a recent surgery done here at UCSD....First ARTIFICIAL heart transplant done on the west coast! 👍

Check out the link.

To all of you still waiting...keep the faith!!!!

And to those of you in the acceptable pool list: yes you definitely still have a chance at being accepted to the first class to spend both pre-clinical years in the new medical education building (yeah...I'm kind of jealous 😉 )

Best of luck guys!

Oh...and BTW...to all of those people who have been accepted...2nd look weekend will be from April 8th - 9th...so I hear 😉
