I don't think you could reallly consider it a complete email. UCSF pretty much said they wouldn't change/update your status until pre-interview...

Is your AMCAS primary application even verified yet? It has to be verified and complete in AMCAS before they send it over to UCSF. Then you'll get an email from UCSF that basically says "welcome!" indicating they have your application now.

If you are so lucky as to receive a secondary invite from UCSF (0-12 weeks from the time UCSF receives your verified complete AMCAS primary application) then it's basically just some paperwork. No real essays unless you're applying to MD/PhD or PRIME-US. If you read the entire thread someone already posted the details about the secondary.

Congratulations on getting screened in! Although with similar stats to your, my GPA is just .1 higher and my MCAT is one lower, i'm suprised you weren't auto screened in. Maybe there really IS more to the screening process than one would be led to believe by the "same time emails"

also got mine yesterday, initial email received on 7/21. 3.79/37T in-state. i guess it's a possibility they do it by date or grouped this chunk of applicants together, or at least i hope so haha.

Interesting! It's quite possible (likely, even) that a specific reviewer gets a batch of applications at one time and whoever ended up with the 7/21 bag is finally getting caught up on reviewing them.

Whoever's in charge of the "OOS on 7/15" pile is probably pretty busy these days. 😍

I just realized that we are all working ourselves into a frenzy just for the secondaries !!! Jeez, and that does not really mean much anyway, when you realize that you have already been completing dozens of those from the other schools...!

Considering that the cut from raw applicants (~8000) to secondaries (1500) is the most aggressive filtering that UCSF performs in the application process, getting a secondary invite is a big deal.

ETA: I stand corrected, actually there are only ~6000 applicants. 😳

So while I wait for the secondary, I was wondering if anyone's received a pre-secondary reject in the mail yet. Last year I think they started going out around now.

Judging from last year's thread, the people who were rejected pre-secondary usually got the paper notification around 10 weeks of waiting.

Also, no one has posted an interview invite yet (I think?) and people were posting interviews as early as 8/19 last year, so this year they might just be slower / have more applications.

There were a few cases though in the thread last year where the secondary came through at the eleventh hour (a few days short of a full 12 weeks) - and the applicant still was accepted!, so I guess until you actually see a small envelope in the mail, don't give up hope!

Going on 6 weeks and 1 day here...haha.

Yes in firefox I get a runtime error. Try in IE, it worked for me

Same here. It has that message in Firefox, but it works in Safari.

I can access it just fine in Firefox. Maybe something's wonky with your settings? Or are you running an outdated version?

SDNers have observed that status changes and e-mails for UCSF often go out at 9:30 every day.. so it seems like there is almost no point to checking more than once a day after 9:30!

The MSAR says that they only get 6000 (and a bit of change) applicants. So the secondary cut isnt THAT extreme.

To cut from 6000 to 1500 is about 75%?...so after the secondary, only 25% of applicants remain. Granted, it's not 81% like Dianyla thought, but it's still a good chunk.

At least they help us save money, not like other schools that mass secondaries and collect all that money even though they know they are going to reject us. 🙄
