Finally got a secondary today right at 9:30 pm... YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY all hope is not lost. AMCAS submitted 07/13/2010. Verified 08/04/2010. Initial Email saying we acknowledge your existence on 08/04/2010 at 9:30 pm. Applying MD instate 36Q and 3.67 cGPA and 3.82 sGPA.

Hey guys,
I took 2 quarters of gchem without lab and 2 quarters of ochem without lab.
This year I am taking one semester of gchem with lab and one semester of ochem with lab at a community college. I am trying to find out if if I meet the chem requirement at UCSF? I emailed admissions but they were not helpful, seems like they are not even reading the question.

It's funny, I had that happen to me... I can't remember if it was in this secondary or another one and it freaked me out at first. I'm sure they'll realize it was a formatting error.

Although I don't have an interview as I just got the secondary, I think that is something totally worth mentioning.

I hit 8 weeks without a secondary today! I'm just curious, were your LORs complete at the time of submission? I have a theory that this leads to extra processing. If they dont have your LORs, then they just go with what they have to decide whether to send you a secondary, and that takes less time.

So I submitted 7/15, but actually my LORs weren't in to any school until mid-August, so UCSF wouldn't have had it until halfway into the processing anyway.

It's just funny how UCSF was one of the earliest schools that I applied to, and I've gotten interview invites at the schools which I applied to at around the same time while I'm still waiting for a secondary here.

I'm itching to call the Admissions Office to ask, but it really hasn't been 12 weeks yet and I guess they know best whether they want to send me a secondary? I don't want to trigger a rejection letter either if I can help it ; ) (I also feel forgotten though .____.)

I'm at 8 weeks and two days (not that I'm counting or anything 😉) and my LORs were all complete at the time of submission. I've heard from all the other UCs....come on SF show me some LOVE!!!!!

aaugh, still nothing over here. AMCAS verified July 29, UCSF e-mail that same day. So it's been 7 weeks....

I really love this school...and my Minnesota born-and-raised boyfriend is sort of obsessed with the idea of living somewhere WARM (aka 2 layers of long underwear not needed in winter). in short, WANT.

Just thought I would post my timeline/stats for everyone who is fretting over timelines and such.

AMCAS Submitted: 7/2

2º Request email from UCSF: 8/18 (I didn't even know I had this email. You always hear about the dreaded spam filter but never think it will happen to you. Well it happened to me! Haha)

Stats: GPA - 3.51, cGPA - 3.58, MCAT - 33T, IS from competitive school
I know some of you have way better numbers, so maybe they like me so far because of disadvantaged status / medical experiences. Also I don't think it really matters but I work in a research lab at UCSF.

So it seems that numbers are definitely not everything at this school, by a long shot. My knowledge of the actual school from working there can attest to that as well. This is definitely a dream school for me, as I'm sure it is for all of you. Good luck everyone!

Oh and can anyone who has received the 2º request email agree with me when I say that was a cryptically stressful email?? A different school would use the same text and it would be a rejection notice haha. I was so worried at first - could not login fast enough. Sometimes this application process really does have it's light-hearted comedy to it, which is definitely a good thing and something to look forward to for this career.

Oh and I have one more piece of advice for everyone going on to interviews (sorry for spamming). I've had extensive interaction with one of the residency directors, and she tells me the most important thing she looks for when interviewing for residencies is proof! She keeps telling me she values concrete evidence of success more than anything. But that is just one person, and for residency, so publications and such obviously have a higher weight. Just thought I would give a little piece of advice, even if I had to suppress the competitive side of me for a moment there haha.

Definitely acoustic Im in the same boat as you identically except even worse off mcat I was shocked just to get a secondary invite especially after knowing the extensive screening they do. Definitely my one and only dream school so trying not to get hopes to high up but hopefully good news will keep coming.

The information website says that it will be available on the status website after picking a date, but I've had a date for a little while now and there's no link or anything... I tried emailing the admission office as well, but got some sort of weird out-of-office reply...

I'm on a mac, so maybe there's something wonky going on with the website.

I emailed them a few weeks back and got the same email. I would suggest giving them a call. They are very friendly and even joked around with me when I called them.

Also I've definitely seen more than a few UCSF websites that don't function with Safari if you're using that. I can't imagine that they would allow that to happen for an admissions portal, though.

Yes. Send an update. 2 lines with your PMID, paper title, journal etc. Or you could bring this update on the interview day and hand it in to the admissions office.

Just a quick update on the appeal process. I wasn't expecting anything to show in my online status, but I just checked it and my status now shows as "Appeal Received" and there's a little blurb saying to allow up to 4 weeks for them to review it.

Nice to not see that dreaded pdf there anymore. 😍

I will hit 10 weeks tomorrow. Has anyone gone as long as me without hearing yea or nay from UCSF yet? I'm debating whether to call them but also 12 weeks hasn't passed by yet.

This is starting to feel like a reality TV show, as I try to survive yet another week. : )

Got rejected today too, 10 weeks to the day.

I think I am definitely drafting an appeal letter, but I don't know how much bearing it will have - but I guess if you don't try, then you never know, right? I also think I'm a really good fit for the school, more so than some others that I have gotten interview invites at...=/ (but who doesn't say that, I guess?)
