Ugh, just hit 12 weeks here. No rejection PDF or secondary in sight. I feel about ready to give up on UCSF!

Hey Everyone,

So the status pg just says my secondary was submitted. It says clearly that they on the site that they don't post an update about the rest of your app (i.e. letters) so I called to make sure all my application materials are in but the guy on the phone said to just check my status pg!!!!!???? I submitted almost 1.5 months ago and really want to make sure. Does anyone know what the admissions guy was referring to? He said I need to make an account with admissions, but didn't I already have one to submit the secondary??

I'm guessing that he meant that if you were missing something, your status page would reflect that, but I can't be sure.

However, I think your implied question (which I also have) is: does UCSF send "Complete" emails? My status is also "Secondary Submitted," with my most recent e-mail correspondence saying that I should wait 24 hours for a change in my status. Is there an "Application Complete" status like at other schools or was this last e-mail UCSF's way of saying, "Your application is now under review?"

With all this talk of being 12 weeks "complete" (I'm assuming since one's AMCAS was submitted), I've gotten a wee bit confused!

Received the secondary invite recently and have a question.

Does anyone know if, say, you apply to PRIME, they read your PRIME essays as well as your optional MD essay, or do they only read your PRIME essays? I'm wondering if it would seem weird if I repeated things in my optional MD essay in one of my PRIME essays. Are both read by the same committee?

Also, does the same go for JMP essays, or is this read by a different committee?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dunno...I'm instate...was complete June 1st...didn't hear back about the secondary until the first week of August. Been complete since the third week of August (secondary submitted and letters in). My friend has an interview and it took him 10-11 weeks to get an interview invite, so I'm hoping I get a notice in the next few weeks...

How long of a wait did you have b/w primary submission and invite to fill out the secondary? Also, when did you submit your primary?

i took 12 days to submit the secondary after i was invited. i submitted the primary 6/7? or around then.

to answer this and similar questions above... UCSF does not send complete emails. They will contact you if anything is missing in your application.
I just recently called them and found out that though I submitted my app on 8/5 it wasn't looked at and marked complete/forwarded to the board by the admissions office until 9/2 (this means I have been waiting for 7 weeks and not 11 🙁 ) .... so maybe consider your app complete roughly a month after you submitted the secondary?? anyone else call them and get a similar response?

I called the admissions office today and asked them about my status. I completed the secondary 9/4, OOS. The guy said that I should be hearing back about an interview/rejection soon, and when he pulled up my page he seemed to say that it had gone through one review already, and that it had to be reviewed again. It wasn't very clear but that's what I thought I heard. Crossing my fingers.

Yeah, I got something similar. My status was "Appeal Received, wait 4 weeks" for a little while, and then it changed back to the original welcome "We've received your data from AMCAS, wait 12 weeks" message. I waited the full 4 weeks and eventually gave them a call, and then they told me it would be another week, and then I finally heard from them.

I think they just have to reset your status in the computer system in order to re-review your application.

Finally got the rejection PDF after nearly 13 weeks. I'm a little bummed and kinda surprised too; I thought they'd at least give me a shot at the secondary. I've been fortunate to have a successful application cycle so far though so no harm done!

got the rejection PDF over the weekend...was sad, but I just put my appeal letter in the mail today though, so I'm hoping! congrats dianyla on the second chance...you're giving the rest of us some hope 🙂

hope it doesn't take the whole 4-5 weeks to review though...if they offer me a secondary, it wouldn't be until almost december at that point. eep! better than nothing though 🙂

Arghhhhhhhhh!!!! I'm freaking out.

I've been working on my secondary app over the last few days, writing the PRIME-US essays and other settings. I've filled out almost everything except for one of the essay questions, as of about a day ago. I just logged in tonight and somehow my status in the online system has changed back to the dreaded rejection pdf. The date on the letter is still Sept 8th, when I was rejected before appealing.

I'm calling them first thing tomorrow morning. This is going to drive me nuts all night. 😱

Surely this must be a bug or a glitch.


ETA: After a very long dark night trying to ignore the brain weasels, I called and they confirmed that it was definitely a glitch in their online system. WHEW. 😱

I still can haz secondary! 😀

first off congratz for getting a secondary!! but wow.. UCSF was a late add for me (late sep) meaning i won't potentially get a secondary until late november.. then invites take another 10-11weeks (again if I even make it there)........

I had a minor panic attack too yesterday afternoon but called them immediately and everything was resolved. Still have a week to wait!

Yep, we're in the same boat then. Except that I didn't notice it until the office had closed for the evening, so I got to angst and fret and wring my hands all night until I could call first thing and clear it up.

From my conversation with the Friendliest Adcom Staff On Teh Planet (TM) this morning, it sounds like they're working out the bugs in a new computer system. I think everyone who has appealed got accidentally reset back to the old rejection status, but she assured me that my status had not changed. So you should still be in the queue for reviewing and hopefully getting invited to do a secondary. She said it would take about a week to repair the glitch.

It took almost 10 days for my status to change. Though, you might also be affected by the same glitch that's affecting all of us appealing candidates, where we're all displayed as our old rejected status. It's supposed to be fixed in about a week.

I have similar stats and submitted around the same time; my secondary status says "secondary submitted". Just to confirm: you never got an "application complete" email before you interviewed, right?

(last school added, on a whim, probably shouldn't have even tried) and haven't gotten secondary yet. then again, haven't gotten rejected yet. i'm hanging in there since people have gotten good news after 7 weeks, 12 weeks, etc!

They say you should submit your secondary within 4 weeks. I would imagine there may not be a hard deadline for LOR receipt, but that will of course affect how long it takes after submitting secondary until you are marked Complete.

Nope, completely blank. All that I get is the "skeleton" of the website with nothing filled in regarding my app.

Actually I can speak from experience that what you would be seeing is a upper-right cryptic status saying merely 'Your Status Has Been Updated', and then the pdf eventually appears. My status was stuck like this for several days. The pdf mysteriously manifested within an hour of my gently calling to inquire.

I swear, I'm like their Number One QA/GuineaPig applicant for this year's new online system. I don't mind so much, since I'm an IT person. 😎

no i never got a complete email, which is why i don't know when all my letters and such were in. and my status just said "secondary submitted" until I got the interview. good luck!

I'd wait until you hear from them, given you're this close. If you do get a secondary invite, you'll have a space to provide an update on your activities. If you don't, save your ammo for the letter of appeal. 👍
