Hey all! 😀

Has anyone who interviewed on or AFTER March 25th heard anything yet?

Thanks in advance for your responses! 👍

No word here. I interviewed March 23rd in Peoria and only have Decision Pending on my status page.

Does anyone know if I'll get an email or anything when they come to a decision or will it be in the mail like the interview invite?

So I interviewed on April 18th in Chicago which was the final interview date. The Dean told the interview group a number of discouraging facts about any more bids.

1) As of now, the school has submitted more offers than all of the schools combined can facilitate.

2) 55% of all applicants with offers have offers from other schools, but 85% of all offers have been accepted thus far.

3) He told our group that there will likely be no offers given out for the month of April, and that it was his opinion that the adcom shouldn't, and submitted that opinion to the committee.

4) The only way that more bids could be offered is if more applicants reject their offers of admission. They are going to send out a reminder very soon, but ultimately, the real traffic is going to happen mid May when the deadline to choose happens.

5) The final adcom meeting will be at the end of May for this cycle and all offers will be given out at this time.

While this sounds like only those who interviewed in April are S.O.L., the adcom actually has several interview dates to review, meaning that some people who interviewed in March will be impacted by this news.

Kind of a downer for the whole day, fortunately my interviews were before the presentation so I was focused during those times.

Thanks for the info CFO! I wouldn't worry too much; it sounds like we will just have to wait another month. A lot of people hold onto all their acceptances until the last minute. There were people on this thread last year withdrawing May 14th.

I like your spirit startswithb. Gotta keep positive, and realistic. Although, if they don't meet again in April, then there will be a lot of disappointed applicants (including myself). This is a brutal process, nothing short of Darwinian. Anyone know why they don't just tell people that they are on a waitlist if they have been waiting to be "a final decision has been made" for months?

Has anyone heard anything recently regarding the OOS tuition waivers?

Thanks CFO & Gara... best of luck to the both of you 🙂

So April 21 seems like a good guess for the April adcom meeting. The dean said there are 3 possibilities, with rejection being the least likely (yay, more uncertainty) and that since about 60% if the accepted students so far have acceptances at other schools as well, they expect a lot of movement. I know that's not all that specific but I thought for those waiting since 1982 it might be nice to know something.

I DISLIKE AMBIGUITY!! 🙁 come on adcom.. your killing me!

They need to get their act together, lol. I've been waiting for a decision since the December meeting, does that mean I could possibly hear something in April? So confusing. 😕

I hear ya, I've been waiting since october...Ugh

Hi, I actually just received the tuition waiver a few weeks ago...

What are the requirements for getting a tuition waiver/where could I find more info about it? I heard about on about a month back, but I couldn't find anything about them on the school's site. Thanks.

they don't mention it on the website. I am not sure about the requirements, but when I emailed one of the counselors about it, they mentioned that the adcom makes decisions regarding who will receive the scholarship. The only reason why I knew about the scholarship is because someone else on this thread mentioned it!

Do Economic classes satisfy the behavioral sciences requirements? These classes would be taken before medical school acceptance.

All my pre-med advisors at UIUC have told me that yes, it counts. I think it's economics, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and gender and women's studies that count towards that.

I take it there have been no acceptances this month. Does anybody know if they will start sending out acceptances right after May 15th as spots come available, or if they will wait until the next adcom meeting?

even though it might be unlikely, i still want to believe they had an adcom meeting yesterday. and we will all soon hear on monday (seems like the monday after the meeting is when previous updates have gone out). cross your fingers everyone.:xf:

I want to believe the same thing, it's good to hear I'm not the only one.

Does anyone have an idea as to what proportion of OSS students get an OSS scholarship?

The same percentage that is an underrepresented minority in medicine. That is the requirement for the waiver.

Thats actually not correct. Its true that you have to be a minority in order to be considered, but the admissions office has told me that not all OOS minorities receive the scholarship.

There is no decisions for April?

I don't really understand the reasoning on that? I mean I agree with the concept of increasing diversity of physicians in medicine but there's plenty of diversity IN Illinois to pull from. Why should that be a pre-req for OOS students?

Just to add perspective of the information coming from the admissions office. I was told that students who bring diversity to the college of medicine- who could technically be called minorities- would be considered for the instate tuition waiver. Let's not restart the argument of UIC's "unfairness" that happened in the beginning of the application cycle.
25% of the OOS students (~30% of the entering class) will be selected for the OOS instate tuition waiver.

:luck:

Has anyone been able to accept their financial aid, I keep receiving revisions (2). Can I assume that my financial aid package is not finalized if I cannot accept the aid? (I'll call to confirm tomorrow)

Withdrew today, hopefully someone on the wait-list gets an acceptance offer.

Sorry to repeat a question but can anybody tell me how notifications are sent out? Will the status update page say something like "A final decision has been made" and we have to wait for snail mail notification?

I won't check my status as frequently if I'm just expecting to receive snail mail notification like the interview invite.

If I recall correctly, your status page says, "A final decision has been made," and then there's an additional correspondence tab top right. I got the snail mail packet about 1.5 weeks later. Hope that helps.

I'm sorry just to be clear, do you mean to say the additional correspondence tab tells you the results? Thanks for the info.

No. It will just say "Additional correspondence" at the top right corner. You can't click on it on anything--it'll just say that.

Wow that would be the most stressful 1.5 weeks ever. Totally not going to check my status update now... I'll just wait for the mail...

Haha...I feel like I'm not getting my point across clearly. I should add the that it's been pretty much confirmed by previous folks who have been accepted that "Additional Correspondence"= an acceptance. So, if you see it, don't panic..it's most likely good news. If you aren't accepted, I'm not sure what happens, but there's a post-interview chart floating around in this thread somewhere that breaks down what the different status page info/alerts mean.

I don't think I read your original question correctly, I just assumed you wanted info regarding status changes for accepted students only. Sorry! Hope this clear things up a little.

START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary): https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page.

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.
M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.
N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.
S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.
X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection 🙁 ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. :xf: ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance 😀 ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

FINISH

*** this info came from last year's thread so somethings may have changed but so far it seems to hold for this year!:luck:

Status changes anyone? None here. Any information on admission meetings?

So by that logic if they meet every third Thursday and it's now the last Thursday we can expect a rejection or waitlist if we haven't heard anything by now?

I would really like to find out when the next committee meeting is and whether or not there was a meeting at all in April. I know that calling the admissions office would not work...anyone ever contact Linda Singleton directly? Any other suggestions of who we could call?

So it's likely, as the Dean told us during the April 18th interview session, that the admissions committee met April, and made the decision not to offer any bids since there were still too many offers in circulation compared to spots available. So it seems that they will wait for the May 15th cut off, meet after that date, likely the 19th, and all decisions will be made then.

So long story short, you'll probably find out end of May.

I still find it crazy that they outright told you that CFO. Not that you're not telling the truth it just seems uncharacteristically honest/cruel of them to tell you outright. I mean basically thanks for coming and wasting your time.

I called this morning to ask a question about the behavioral science pre-req and tried to sneak in a question about the adcom meeting and whether they met. She told me they are not allowed to give out that information and that final decisions will be made in May and we can expect to be notified by snail mail. So basically nothing we didn't already know.

Withdrew from the Chicago campus today. I hope it goes to one of you still waiting! Thanks to all those who frequent this thread for the helpful info all year.

The dean came across to all of us as genuinely honest, without any connotations of disregard. I try to spin it as "refreshingly blunt" but you're right, that was the sentiment that a lot of us had during lunch after the presentation.

In regards to the people who are withdrawing, a withdrawal unfortunately doesn't mean that a spot opens up. Since all of the schools have delivered more offers than they can facilitate, we need to wait for withdrawals up to a threshold, and then withdrawals after this threshold will open up spots. Nerve racking to say the least =P

It is unfortunate but this seems to be a trend with a lot of schools nowadays...they told me the same thing when I interviewed and told me that they did the same the year before me. I also remember my friends getting interviewed for Stritch (loyola)'s wait-list in April (were told the same thing as you guys). The thing is that Stritch's does not move that much but UIC's does so have good faith!:luck: Hopefully you all hear some good news, either from this place or others!:xf:
