So I'm not really sure what this means for everyone, but I just checked my status and it's changed to "A final decision has been mad (April 29)" with the additional correspondance tab. Also, just to be clear (and so I don't look like a douche in a week), is the additional correspondance tab is just another grid box like the "interview confirmed" tab? I can't remember what it looked like before this.

Congrats! As soon as I read this I started sweating and my heart was pounding. Fight or Flight?? Anyway, still decision pending for me...

Look at the previous posts calfox. It's probably good news so congratulations if it is. When was your interview date?

I just want to know whether or not I'm waitlisted. 🙁 Well...I'll admit I am at least happy that I am not post-interview rejected...:xf:

For everyone's reference, I am also decision pending. I interviewed in December, and have yet to receive any decision whatsoever. In my opinion, the way UIC operates is disrespectful to the applicant. The least they could do is provide some semblance of understanding of what is happening behind the scenes. Thanks to SDN, I have been "sorta" in the loop. For those of you who haven't been accepted elsewhere, I'm pulling for you. It's a painful process, and a lot of very qualified applicants don't end up with acceptances. I will not be withdrawing my application until a final decision is made, as I am a person who appreciates closure. On account of another acceptance, I am lucky to be able to put UIC behind me. Best of luck.

I also think UIC is being unfair to the applicants about final decisions. Some of us have been waiting for months. I can't believe they're not going to let us know where we stand until AFTER the May 15th deadline. So cruel....

Hey... CONGRATS!!! 😀

I interviewed March 25th too. No status change for me yet 🙁 I am keeping the faith though! Let us know when you receive your OFFICIAL package in the mail!!!!! 😀

I interviewed late in March and upon checking my status today i see 'Additional Correspondence' and this message below
'A final decision was made on your application on 04-29-11. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone.'
From this thread i think this is a good thing but why don't they just send an acceptance or rejection e-mail like other schools do. 😕

I interviewed April 18th and just got the "Final Decision made on 04/29/11..." status change with the "Additional Correspondence" tab/grid in the top right. Guess I'll find out soon what this means. Anyone ever get/know someone who got the "Additional Correspondence" tab and got wait-listed/rejected?

or maybe a post-bacc placement cos i don't want to get all excited for no apparent reason.

First time poster but I have been following the thread.
Interviewed 3/23 in peoria and my decision pending status changed to Final decision last friday 4/29. No CBC email or financial aid emails :-( nothing in the mail today. Anybody else get anything? I've read in previous threads (think 2007 or 2008) of people getting rejections so I would advise being cautiously optimistic :scared:
Good luck to all

Ugh same interview date AND same location as me and I've heard nothing. I don't like my chances.

Anyway UIChopeful did you see any Additional Correspondence tab that has been mentioned earlier in the thread?

Checking my e-mail like a mad man and the status page every so often just to make sure that "Additional Correspondence" tab doesn't disappear. Anyone get a decision made update without the tab?

Just keeping everyone updated on what i just found out. I got an e-mail today offering me a conditional acceptance to U.I.C and this is in conjunction with me having to do the SPP program. It starts May 23 and goes through July 7th. I love U.I.C and it was my top 3 out of 8 schools that i applied to. I also have an acceptance to a good (DO) school outside of Illinois but i think i will be doing this program. 🙂It should give me a good start but i don't like the inclusion of BioChem since i just wrapped up that course this semester. But for any U.I.C medical students on here please post if you have any experience with this program. You can PM me or just reply to my post, i just want to hear first-hand from someone that has done the program. Also to all those with the additional correspondence tab this must mean good news so i will say congratulations and hope to see you in August and for those still decision pending i wish you all the best of luck especially startswithb. I am pulling for you.

I will be withdrawing my acceptance. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

MUKB24 I'll be seeing you on the 23rd!!!😀 Just got the same email today. Beyond words how excited I am. (although not too excited about the 12$ a day parking but hey such is life in the city I guess). I've heard great things about the SPP, really gets you ready for year 1. I did get the additional correspondence tab GARA, keep hope alive. I'm sure in the weeks to come they will send out another wave of acceptances.
Good luck all.

Congrats UIChopeful! glad to hear it turned out well.

I wonder if there will be a second session for the SPP considering it starts on May 23rd. This means that people that are still Decision Pending would probably not get a chance to participate in it. Perhaps these conditional acceptances are among the last of the offers being given out?

The CTA will be my best friend during those weeks as i live 45 minutes away by public transportation. Also, can't wait to start this program. I just graduated on Saturday and just got this message today so i will try to enjoy my summer a bit before i start this program.

What's the SPP program? Also, is there some section of the website that I'm missing because I can never find half of the stuff people talk about on here.

😍Thank you! Congrats on the acceptance! I was actually wondering if they would consider me for the SPP because my science GPA is low (3.14). Apparently not since it starts so soon. I guess I can just hope to be waitlisted at this point? IDK..so stressful. I am still oddly optimistic, though. It must be all the supportive SDNers. 🙂

Did you guys get the CBC email?

It's a summer pre-marticulation program and to find most of this stuff just Google it, they come up on different websites than that of the school of medicine

Hi guys,

I'm in the same boat as a couple of you : Received the status update on Friday, however I'm still waiting to hear from them otherwise. I interviewed on 3/29

It seems a little inconsiderate if you know you're absolutely not going to attend UIC. The application committee spends a lot of time and effort reviewing applications, so it's a waste of their time. Also they might end up offering you a spot, then have to wait to offer it to someone else until you turn it down. I understand if you were seriously considering attending UIC, but don't leave someone else hanging just so you can get a self-esteem boost.

Random other things:
The prematriculation program is really helpful for your first year. From what I've seen, the students really liked interacting with the professors and each other in a more relaxed, close-knit atmosphere.

However, getting a late acceptance does not mean you are going to be offered a conditional acceptance. With over 300 students, it's a lot harder for UIC to figure out what % are going to accept their acceptances before May 15th than other smaller schools (I had a few small schools notify me in August that they were rejecting me...after I withdrew lol). Once you start med school, no one cares if you got accepted in January or July 🙂

This helped me calm down a little. Thank you. Do you remember classmates getting late acceptance offers off the waitlist? According to last year's thread the waitlist wasn't made until around the first of June. However, is there usually a meeting in May to hand out more acceptances independent of the waitlist?

Yeah...this is the only school I have not gotten a rejection letter from. So...I am really hoping to hear from them as soon as the May 15th deadline passes. Anything I can do to avoid the re-application would be awesome!

Gah I just want to hear something other than waitlist. I've made peace with the fact I may need to reapply but as an OOS applicant a waitlisting might make me lose my mind 😕

Dude - chill. This isn't a self esteem boost. After 4 years of hard work, if I want to hang an app out there to see what happens, I think I should have that privilige. I spent plenty of time earning that

Consider the kid who is agonizing over not having their first acceptance. They are beginning to make arrangements for next year under the assumption that they are not going to get in. It has nothing to do with the school. Don't be a d

I just got back from a long day and found a large envelope from UIC waiting for me in the mail 🙂 I Interviewed April 18th and got the "Additional Correspondence" tab as well when I got my decision. Good luck to the rest of you, and thank you to everyone who made it a point to contribute to this thread.

Congrats! I am so glad someone finally received mail because I have been checking mine like crazy. Hopefully this means something good will be here soon (fingers crossed)!

Also, does anyone know of a good summary/break down of what each campus offers other than the schools website? Maybe with some insider knowledge of the positive and negatives? Thanks!

Hi, I actually just received the tuition waiver a few weeks ago...

Does anyone have any more info about these waivers. I just called the admissions office to find out how to apply for one, and she had no idea what I was talking about. Is this an actual waiver (ie. an exception for OOS) or is this applying for residency?

It seems to be something that the admissions committee decides without an additional application for it. Also, from other posts here, it most likely has something to do with diversity/minority status. But it is a scholarship that pays for the OOS portion of tuition and is not linked to being a resident of IL.

+1
They haven't awarded everyone yet, so :luck: to everyone waiting for the package.

For those who interviewed later in the season, just out of curiosity, did Dean Flaherty mention why he has stepped down at UIC? And more importantly, why he is now the head of Ross University in Dominica? Seems like an odd move, to say the least...

Interesting. At my interview in February we were told that he was retiring.

The plot thickens...we weren't even told he was leaving, let alone to go head a foreign med school!!! UIC is shady.

Just got an email telling me that I have a Chicago campus assignment.

Nevermind, nothing to see here, my question was answered a few posts earlier....

Got the CBC email today. I got my offer May 4th. So a good number of days after.

Not accepted here yet, but I just found this: https://www.med.illinois.edu/MedCalendar/views/week.php?cal=67&getdate=20110912&sat=0

M1 Calendar. The course schedules look grueling! Class all day from 8-3/5, with small groups some days until the late evening...6-8. I have heard from a faculty member that course evaluations from students are often negative, with the main complaints being too many classes and too much lecture time. As a result, the curriculum committee is working to implement changes to reduce lecture time across the board. I am not sure when these changes will take place, though.

EDIT: this is for the Urbana campus.
