Defer decision data: We have 65 (41 non-res/24 residents) we are considering for 12 admission offers (7 NR and 5 residents) on Dec. 22

A bit bleak for deferred candidates, but I certainly appreciate the transparency.

Ha yeah I think its just an ego booster that they have the "Highly Desirable" thing on there, they should just say you're deferred.

Everyone's obviously so highly desirable that they're only accepting 1/5-1/6 of them...that's hilarious

anybody receive an interview offer recently? they haven't updated the tracker in a minute

how do you figure? i wasn't too bummed out by the highly desirable. just sending updates and looking forward to 12/22 =]

I wasn't actually commenting on your views on anything, it was just a play on your name (Euler's identity e^(i*pi) +1=0). Bad joke, darn.

I interviewed on 12/10 and got accepted with the last batch. They send out an accepted picture profile... there were 279 acceptances and I think the twitter account said they are taking 12 people on 12/22. At the interview they said they're accepting 350 people this year....SO still plenty of room!

I remember Ruiz saying some people who got deferred to December might get deferred again to February/March. Any guesses on those?

Yes, he said a very small amount of candidates will be again deferred to the later decision date. However, from what it sounds like, getting deferred has a somewhat more optimistic ending than a waitlist. He explained to us that he hates waitlists and doesn't use them too often. As far as the number pushed from December deferred to March deferred, I strongly doubt he told us/knew at that point.

Lol at current tweet:

"Boy...if I had a quarter for every time I was misquoted on SDN I'd own a house on the Costa Brava by now. Read everything but be discerning!"

I wonder what this is in reference to? I hope not my post. That was 100% accurate to my memory? Did you hear the same thing at your interview day too, Cole?

To be honest, I don't remember many specific details from the info session. I do remember that the waitlist isn't a good place to be, but I don't remember much beyond that. It was too long ago. 🙁

Does anyone know if Mich is giving out any more interview offers?

UMich has an active interview and acceptance count on the main page of their MD Admissions website.

The numbers were updated yesterday, I believe, and they still have 35 interviews to offer.

Ah, sorry, just saw that!

Do I basically have no hope if my status is still "File Complete - Under Review" as of 9/1/2010? Sadness!

Twins except I've had that status since early August.

Bright side: We haven't been rejected.
On the other hand: Everyday my status doesn't change I die a little more inside.

Yep, I'm in the same boat. Oh well....time to move on..

+1
I've also been complete since August and would love one of the 35 invites left 🙂 I can't believe I've held on this long to be honest!

Not sure. I was thinking midnight tonight. However, it's already almost an hour past 12 in EST, and I don't think they have released any decisions yet. No updates on twitter either.

We'll just have to wait patiently =).

According to the Twitter, they are going to be posted by 5PM today (12/22). I think the only batch of decisions they release at midnight are those on 10/15. Both my initial waitlist and then change to deferred status came in the middle of the day. So we should be hearing at some point today - good luck.

Good luck you guys! Fingers crossed for you. 🙂:xf::luck:

I have the same status and date. I try to make myself feel better by telling myself that at least I haven't been rejected or ever put on hold.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!...What an incredible Christmas present 😎

Congrats!! I think I met you at WashU...no doubt they totally made a mistake when they waitlisted you at first. Merry Christmas!🙂

Ya we were at the same lunch table there. And the same tour. 🙂 Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too.

I guess I asked for it...My status just changed to "Highly Desirable - February Decision." Another two months of waiting. Yippee.

:annoyed:

Same boat here. Status changed to Feb decision. Congrats to those who were accepted!

Deferred again till February.

Does anyone have the date in February we are supposed to hear by?

I was looking through the folder they gave us at the interview (specifically the "Get Exposed to Michigan" brochure), and on the back of the brochure I wrote in the date December 31st for the date that the "Financial Aid Pre-App" is due. Does anyone know what this form is? On my current applicant status page, I found a "Financial Aid Questionnaire for New Matriculants," and I found the "Application for Financial Aid" on the financial aid website. I'm still confused about what they mean by a "Pre-App" though. Does anyone know about that?

*Crickets in this thread*

Only 15 interview invites left. Not holding my breath on this one but it would be awesome to be one of the remaining few. I wonder how many people they have left to reject...

I've been under review since 8/3/10. Already submitted a couple of letters of interest over the past few months. I'd love to get an interview invite here. Fingers crossed for one of the last spots! I hope the SDN gods will smile down upon me. :xf::luck:

I think UMich might be done with their interview invites 🙁. I was so hopeful as this was such a top choice for me =/. sighh.

Admission tracker coming tomorrow--wish it were better news.....

They might actually be done with interviews now.

If it still says "under review", am I supposed to assume that they never looked at my application?

have they sent out rejections post-interview or only deferrals/wait-lists?

Your application Status as of 01/11/2011
FILE CLOSED
After careful review, it is with regret that we inform you we are unable to offer you a position in the University of Michigan Medical School's next entering class. Given the depth and strength of our applicant pool, we continue to have far more qualified applicants than seats available.
We appreciate your interest in our medical school and wish you success and satisfaction in your future endeavors.

Bummer, but good luck elsewhere.

5 more invites remain? Yet they claim it will take them another three weeks to finish file reviews? This is ridiculous. They bilked a lot of people out of their application fees.
