Congrats on the interview.

Maybe the problem is your fondness for a notorious crank who invented his own school of quackery.

Someone is NOT a fan of homeopathy lol!

Are you? And if so, why on earth would you want to be a medical doctor? You do realize that you're entering a field that attempts (although imperfectly) to use scientific empiricism to heal patients, right? Not one that uses fake cures that demonstrably do not work to defraud patients.

Complete 8/11. MCAT: 38R, 3.6GPA. Just got interview invite for 2 dates in late JANUARY!!! At least I have relatives up there... Although I am quite thankful for the interview, I am :scared:! Why such late notice? Why such late dates? I thought good numbers got early decisions and interview dates? I haven't even heard back from my in-state schools... (and VCU has "reservations" about granting me an interview).

Anyway, good luck to everyone else who is waiting!

1. Some people with high stats are still waiting for an interview invite and IIRC, people who had automatic invites earlier on in the cycle had GPAs that were higher than yours. The system is not set in stone.

2. I wouldn't be complaining about something as trivial as being "notified earlier/late dates" when there are many people in this thread who would be very happy to have that interview. An interview is a chance for an acceptance. No matter how late you interview in the cycle. Period.

3. Congrats! 🙂

Hey genius, who invented double-blind trials?! Who successfully treated thousands during the flu pandemic while your allopathic aspirin (in gram doses) caused massive hemorrhaging?! Homeopathy was better than the harm that doctors caused back then and it is still better than the harm that many doctors cause today because few actually attempt to a real scientific approach, something that homeopathic practitioners pioneered in many ways. Read some history before you dismiss something.

I haven't even applied to U of M but I was just looking at this thread for fun. I noticed the following comment by the user named "MedReckoning:"

"Who successfully treated thousands during the flu pandemic while your allopathic aspirin (in gram doses) caused massive hemorrhaging?!"

I wanted to comment that, much to my surprise, osteopathic medicine successfully saved more lives than allopathic (and of course homeopathic) medicine during the influenza epidemic. Some strange techniques such as palpating the spleen and lymph nodes apparently turbocharged the immune system, and as a result, osteopathic medicine saved more lives during this epidemic than allopathic medicine. I support both allopathic and osteopathic medicine, but homeopathic medicine just seems like a super-archaic version of allopathic medicine in its early stages, combined with alchemy and magic.

I think the stress of the interview season has made this thread quite confrontational at times... Here's to hoping that everyone ends up at a school they love, and for many of us, that is UMich.

I don't think that excuses the behavior of a lot of people on this thread. It's pretty ridiculous honestly.

Most recent post from Michigan's Twitter (about half an hour ago):

As we approach Halloween I'm glad we still have interview positions available-wish we had more but know that we are still reviewing files!

And this one as well from the 22nd. They sound kind of miffed!

Applicant cancels interview 8 hours before scheduled start--no way for us to fill that interview slot or recover review time by interviewers

Thought I would put up some new material on the board while we wait.

I like how U of M sends cool emails like the interview day picture profile with fun facts about everybody 👍 Looking forward to meeting you all on the 29th🙂

In the midst of all the negativity mentioned above...
I got an interview!! This is #8... I can't believe my good fortune thus far. My stats are not as good as some of you, so I am really thankful. All is in God's hands. 😀
So excited (esp. cuz I made a horrible error on my secondary, but it is fixed now) because I really like UMich, the personality of the school and administration is great!

Mine's in January...but the admin chat transcript says this shouldnt affect your ability to get in.

Congrats! Do you mind saying when you were complete?

I've been under review since 8/11 and I've really got my fingers crossed for an interview.

I apologize if this is not the correct place to ask this, but I figured you all would know best.

Just how much weight is placed on the school you did your undergrad? Those of you with interviews (auto and non), could you share your undergrad school?

No auto-invite: Baylor, 4.0/41

Will the medical school give you breakfast on the interview day? If yes, when will the breakfast begin and end? Do they give enough time to eat your breakfast?

Thanks!

I've been under review here since around the middle-to-end of July! Not sure whether it's a silent rejection/hold though. I recently submitted a letter of interest, so I'm hoping they'll consider me for an interview.

If anyone's curious, my MCAT is pretty competitive for the school, my GPA is a little below average, and my application basically screams that I'm interested in academic medicine! 🙂

Fingers crossed for good news from here! :xf:

I completed my application around the end of September, like the 29th. Now that my interview is scheduled, I don't think it is showing when I was complete anymore...or at least, I don't see it. But that is when I submitted my app and it was the last thing they needed. Everything else was there since August.
On the website, it says they have granted 525 or so out of 660 interviews. So, you still have a chance! Good luck!

For those of you who have received the acceptance letter in the mail as well, does your letter say that matriculation is contingent upon completing a biochemistry course? The rest of the letter was personalized, but I have already completed a biochemistry course so not sure if that was something that was in everyone's letter...

I had that in my letter as well, but I haven't (as of yet) completed a Biochemistry course.

Thanks guys! Sounds like it was in everyone's letter. Just wanted to make sure because the rest of the letter mentioned specific things about my app. Congrats on the acceptances!!

Congrats to all of y'all that have been accepted! It must be great to know already!

I have my interview at Michigan 11/12 and was hoping that those of you that have already been through it all could give some advice. Particularly as to the style of each of the three interviews. Congrats again!

Is anybody else dying waiting to hear back on Friday? I'm trying not to think about it but I'm failing completely

Shocker: rejected MSTP.
note: not really surprised. Checking the status update site and seeing "not selected for interview. " isn't a good way to end the day 🙁
Still in the running for MD but considering how late it is, I'm not holding my breath.

I have mixed feelings of UMich. On one hand it's a great school but my whole family lives in michigan and they're all wackjobs and it's likely they would make my life a bit more difficult in med school. I guess we'll see what happens.
I'll be in MI for turkey day, probalby do a self tour of the school 🙂

does MI let everyone know if they arent invited/rejected for an interview or are we left wondering until time is up? are you only "rejected" if you have interviewed?

FOr me at least (and given this is MSTP so take it with a grain of salt), my status changed to "sorry we cannot offer you an interview this year." From what I've read, they're pretty good about letting you know if you aren't going to be interviewed aka rejected. If you status hasn't changed, they haven't decided if they're going to interview you or not (that's a goodd thing! not a rejection 👍)

so do we get emails friday at 12 am if we're accepted?? 🙂

On my interview day, Director Ruiz said that we should have something on our status page by 5pm Friday. But the midnight email would be nice. 🙂

I checked last year, and there were people who were in "file complete -- under review" and "hold for interview" status purgatory all the way from July through January. Not exactly promising.

I'm the in former camp, since August 24th. I would love to hear from them soon! Good luck to you.

Hey everyone! I'm staying in Ann Arbor on my way to Lansing for an interview at MSU. Any fun things I should make sure to do while I'm there!?!

Just got the acceptance email!!!!!!!! I'm so unbelievably excited I don't know what to do with myself right now. Ah!

CONGRATS!! 😀😀😀

i keep hearing people saying how hard it is for UM undergrads to get into the med school, as if there's a bias against us. i for one just think it's a selection bias (pretty much all the pre-meds from mich apply to mich, and of course not all can get in), but regardless, it's great to see fellow wolverines getting acceptances! 🙂

Wait listed...Which according to Ruiz is not a good place to be. In-state, 4.0, 41T, Top 20 undergrad with good reputation for getting students to Michigan.

Reality check if I've ever seen one...disappointing because I loved Michigan.

There's literally no hope for me if you got rejected--what the heck

Michigan has updated its tracker: 600/660 interviews offered.

Looks like hope is dwindling for those of us (especially OOS) that are still under review...

What is the point for me to go to the interview then? 😵

Admission Stats page says that 600 of 660 interviews have already been offered. Chances are not looking great for those of us who are still under review. But, good luck to everybody and hopefully we'll hear something soon.

was pleasantly surprised by an interview invite tonight (did not get an email, but saw in a status update)

35+ mcat
3.6+ gpa

in state

Has anyone interviewed MSTP that could share some words about UMICH. I have an interview 12/9--12/10 and I'm debating withdrawing.

Thanks

Given the volume of great candidates we are considering adding some more interview slots-decision will be made by end of November.

interesting...!😱

After saving an update to your application through their website, is there any where you can see that it is now listed? It said it saved, so I assume it is now attached to my file, just curious if was listed anywhere on the status page. Thanks!
