I just registered for second look and it looks like 105 acceptances have been offered so far. Since this year's class is going to be about 170, i am guessing there are still 65 spots left.

So don't give up guys. There is still hope.

Just thought I'd share this with all who are still waiting.

Now that 7:30 has come, hope is pretty much lost. Cross your fingers for the wait list. Stop wasting time hoping for unc, ain't gonna happen..... Best of luck next year or at your other schools.... So frustrating

Do you know that they are giving out calls for acceptances today? It is possible there are future meetings, or they didn't end up meeting today.

After having studied previous threads from precious years, it seems like this is it. As with everything at unc, who knows. What I know for sure is if you didn't get the call today, you probably aren't getting it...... I hope I am wrong

surgeion4sure,

how'd you come to that conclusion? does anyone else have thoughts on this?

For those who are accepted, there's a sign up for second look online. There's a number showing how many people have signed up out of **I think** how many people have been invited. When I logged in it was like 80/105. When I signed up it became 81/105. Or something like that...

I wouldn't say it 100% means something. I think there are more meetings to come. How many I'm not sure...

Good luck everyone!!

I was on a flight between Atlanta and Los Angeles today from 4p-9p EST. No voicemail when I landed.

Does anyone know if they leave voicemails (assuming, of course, I was even called)?

On another note, I think I may call UNC tomorrow to see what the deal is on future adcom meetings.

Good deal, let us know what's up!

I'm not in the running anymore for an acceptance, but I did see a congratulation on facebook for someone who got into UNC. They posted it ~3 hours ago... so I assume they got the call today.

Hi everyone! This is my first post, but I've been reading the forum and I'm in the same position as most of you... just waiting to hear back and getting really impatient! So I called the admissions office this morning and this is what I was told:

"We still have a lot of candidates to go through, and there will be three categories: accepted, waitlist, or unsuccessful."

The woman I spoke with refused to look at my file specifically, and when I asked if there were still open spots remaining in the class she repeated the same "three categories" spiel. She also would not give me any idea of a timeframe for when they will complete their decisions... but the good news is... THERE ARE DEFINITELY STILL SPOTS LEFT! So don't give up hope yet!

This, plus the 2nd look comment are what have kept me from flying through the roof.

For what it is worth, I highly doubt that 105 number is how many acceptances they have given out. I think they just estimated how many people they expected to come. Almost 100 people have now registered for second look, and I doubt only 5 people can't go.

When I was there they gave a whole spiel about how you should change your voicemail to be professional in case you got the call... definitely said they'd leave a voicemail.

Good luck to everyone. Don't lose hope! We're all going to be amazing doctors, no matter where we end up and no matter when we start. 🙂

Yeah... I'm not so sure about that either. I feel like at LEAST 50 people have posted acceptances in this thread... but then again, who knows, maybe there are more people on SDN than I thought.

This is what I find frustrating. I appreciate weather has slowed them down somewhat this year and I cannot fathom what it's like to sift through hundreds of interviews.

But it seems in last cycle's thread that people who called in were given an estimate - which may have been of zero value - on when they should expect decisions. Furthermore, it sounded as if they were told over the phone explicitly that by date X or week X, all acceptances (pre-waitlist) had been granted and future meetings were only to determine waitlist vs. rejection.

It would be nice if they could let us know how many acceptances they have left to give and by which date they expect to reach those decisions. At this point, it seems like common courtesy for those of us waiting well past our '6-8 week' time line.

Rant over.

So, it sounds as if at least one more regular adcom meeting remains. Who knows if it will be held the normal two Mondays from now (March 21) or if they're going to speed things up as we near the end of the cycle?

Six weeks or less remaining till we (most likely) hear something...

POWER THROUGH EVERYONE!!!

I interviewed in Early Dec. so I feel everyone's pain, but I just keep trying to remind myself that there is only a month or so left and then I'll be able to make definitive plans from there. This wait and the first few days after a rejection are really the worst parts, so try to stay positive and do some extra stuff to give yourself a boost if you can.

+1 from last year. The real agony last year was in waiting until the bitter end for the rejection. After I officially got it, I was upset for a few days (and then REALLY upset again right after the exit interview), but mostly, I turned a corner after getting the rejection. Almost like I could breathe again and finally get on with my life and what I needed to work on to reapply.

Hang in there everyone. :xf:

I had a dream I received a big, fat acceptance package from this school and was shocked.... because I didn't apply or interview here... That was very random and kinda funny 😀

so what's going on with UNC admissions these days?

The two week schedule would suggest that the committee is not meeting tonight. At this point, however, I think that the adcom schedule is anyone's guess and that a meeting today is not outside the realm of possibility.

Second look calendar schedule:

122/150

Can only speculate as to what that means

If you use the link that was sent to schedule your interview, there should be three calendar options, one for in-state interviews, one for oos, and one is titled second look (03/26/2011).

It would seem, if there are really outright acceptances still to be given, that next Monday is the final regular meeting (to align with Second Look).

Who knows how long they'll take to inform of waitlist/rejections.

I called the UNC admissions office today was told that the class is full at this time, however, there are still decisions to be made about waitlists and rejections any time within the next two weeks.

🙁

should have taken a year off.

anyone know how we'll be notified of waitlist/rejection? snail mail or email?

Thanks for calling. Though it's news none of us want to hear, at least it's something. The silence has been killer.

It seems that, in the past, UNC has had some major waitlist movement. Hopefully we'll at least get a shot at that.

Does that mean they've made enough offers to fill the class, or that 170 people have accepted their offers?

my understanding is that 170 applicants are holding offers, and these applicants have not yet declined the offer.

+1... Guys, this is it. Waitlist and rejections are the next thing coming. About 1/4 of us still lurking out there will get the wait list, the other 3/4 the axe. Good luck to all! It isn't over, but I hear the fat lady warming up.....

I called the office last Friday. I can't remember the exact wording but we will either hear on or by this coming Friday (about waitlist/rejection plus maybe a very tiny number of acceptances if some people have declined offers already).

Talked to Randee today. She said decisions should be EMAILED by the end of the week. I'm not going to hold my breath though. UNC is unbelievably slow and it could take them longer, even though the decisions have already been made.

anyone know how many total offers they normall give out? and how many total offers they've given out by now? do you think that they are already giving out additional offers because some applicants have declined their offer?

Best strategy right now is just to wait imho

We'll all know fairly soon one way or another.

I haven't come across any reliable/existing information on the number of offers made at this point or whether they're already offering de facto waitlisted candidates newly-vacated spots. I don't think that info is available to us, actually.

It seems they had a few final offers to give this week (I would assume Monday) but according to those who've spoken with the admissions office this week and last, a decision has been reached on all applicants.

If they are true to their word, all of us should hear something via email by this Friday - accepted, rejected, waitlisted.

Does anyone know how many people are initially placed on the WL? (EDIT: I should read more closely, apparently ~0.25 remaining are placed on WL.)

Called this morning and it looks like we should know by Friday, April 1st with the possibility of some decisions being emailed out earlier. My feeling at this point is that they can't make it any later than next Friday, but you never know.

Indeed, it seems that different people are getting different estimates when they call.

just called - "you should probably hear something by the end of next week."

I guess the wait is still on.:xf:

Sweet Moses, UNC is going to draw this out to the 11th hour.

Good luck, everyone.
