So this might have been in the packet that I got a few days ago (I should look more closely but I've been focused on the "Instructions to make sure your spot is held" and the super-upsetting reminder that my computer I buy next year can't be a Mac [*sob*]) but does anyone know if the FAFSA is still due March 1st like it appeared to be last year? http://www.med.unc.edu/md/financial-aid/applying-for-financial-aid. Is that a hard deadline?

I ask because there was a tax filing delay in place until a few days ago for certain filers as the Obama tax stuff was worked out (See http://20somethingfinance.com/2011-tax-deadline-itemized-filing-delay/ )

As a result my parents won't have their W-2s done till after March 1st. Probably not terribly long after, but having the FAFSA in by March 1st won't be happening if it needs to be based on completely accurate 2010 tax returns.

Has anyone dealt with the financial aid office on this issue yet? I'll call them if no one knows but just wanted to know if someone else has been asking the same questions.

I think you might be able to guesstimate some of the numbers, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Usually everyone just gets EFC = $0, and then med schools send supplementary forms later on to find out what the real financial situation is.

BTW, anybody with an acceptance hear back about scholarships, or even an official second look revisit invitation? Thought we would've gotten them by now, I would really like to book my ticket to NC!

Good luck to all tomorrow. This is one of the last 2 or 3 adcom meetings where acceptances and not waitlists are handed out....

Will they still meet on President's Day? I truly hope so! :luck: to everyone!

Another Monday night of waiting by the phone. I really hope we all find something out soon. My patience is running out! 🙂 :luck:

Congrats!

I wonder if they didn't accept many this meeting or if the acceptees just aren't SDNers.

My life changed on Monday night.... I am a 3rd time reapplicant, in-state.

AMCAS complete in October
Secondary invite 11/9
Complete 11/21
Interview invite 1/4
Interview 2/1
Accepted 2/21

GPA 3.1, MCAT 37P

Persistence and determination pays off! Don't give up hope everyone!

Has there been no post interview rejections yet? And also no waitlists yet? Does that mean if we're not accepted soon that we will get either a rejection or waitlist in April? When in April do they send out the waitlist and rejection announcements? 😕

Judging by last year's thread, remaining waitlist decisions / rejections will probably be sent the first or second week of April. According to earlier posts, there have been post-interview rejections already, but I do not believe the adcom sends out waitlist notifications earlier.

There are at least two adcom meetings left. Now that they've finished with interviews, I have a feeling many more acceptances will be handed out (though I have no idea how many they've handed out relative to the total number they are planning to give).

As for post-interview rejections, yes, a handful of SDNers received a rejection email in late Jan/early Feb.

I've not heard of any waitlist decisions at this point.

You may want to hunt through last cycle's thread to see when people post their waitlist notifications.

Will someone post a link to last year's school specific discussions for UNC-Chapel Hill? I'm having trouble locating it. Thanks! 🙂

Current MS1, got my waitlist notification letter on April 1 last year, got accepted off the waitlist on May 16.

For those of you who have been admitted, has your status changed on your ConnectCarolina Student Center page?

That is, has the 'Your decision is not yet available' message in the box at the bottom of the page changed to something else?

Mine says this: "Thank you for indicating your intent to enroll. We look forward to welcoming you to Carolina."

I have already sent in my deposit, and so I don't know what it might say between their decision and my response.

Good luck!

Whoa what is this status page and why don't I know about it?

Visit my.unc.edu. Sign in with your onyen. Click on the "ConnectCarolina Student Center" link in the middle of the page, under the "Student Services" heading. That will link you to a new page, at the bottom of which is a section titled "Admissions." This section should list your application for medicine.

This isn't a application status checker like many other med schools offer, though. It's more administrative - as in, there exists an application, will you accept your offer, etc. It's connected with the Registrar and what not.

Whoa, sorry, everyone. Didn't mean to freak anyone out.

All UNC students (undergrad and grad, alike) use this interface to register for classes, check financial aid, etc. That's how I knew about it.

It just happens to list your applications to any UNC school, as well.

EDIT: I'm just not sure how actively updated it is when decisions have been made on your application.

Err how do you know what your Onyen is? :\

I have one from being a student at UNC previously. To have an Onyen you have to have a UNC PID.

You can check all of this out at: https://onyen.unc.edu/cgi-bin/unc_id/services

I don't know if they assign you a PID as an applicant if you're not already in the UNC system.

Again, my sincere apologies for getting everyone worked up. If you haven't heard anything yet - like me - it just says: "Thank you for submitting your application. Your decision is not yet available."

From my understanding this is not reflective of real-time things going on at the SOM. That is, it's not going to tell you you've been rejected or accepted before the SOM itself contacts you.

Yeah mine did...I didn't check it at all before I was notified of my decision so I don't know what it said originally, but after I heard I was accepted I logged in and had a link to another page within Connect Carolina to accept or decline their offer of admission, and after indicating "accept," it changed to and has remained "Thank you for indicating your intent to enroll. We look forward to welcoming you to Carolina."

Haha no worries I'm not worked up... was just wondering how I could have missed it.

I applied there for undergrad and was able to look up my PID and onyen on the website, but I don't know my password. Oh well.

You can reset your password on that site, as well.

Oh I tried, it wouldn't let me. I think I reset it 2 years ago when I was looking into summer classes at UNC. So now I have to go to campus to reset it a 2nd time? Haha probably not worth it.

No problem. I initially went looking for some kind of application status in Student Central, but didn't know they were switching over to this Connect Carolina thing until I saw there was almost nothing listed in Student Central anymore. Guess I'm just out of the loop.

noticed that UNC is on spring break next week. Do you all think they are going to meet?

Hoping to hear something soon, with only other 2 decisions left, one of which I'm positive is going to be a rejection or waitlist, I'm starting to get nervous.

Anyone know if this is the final regular adcom meeting? It seems, from last year's thread, that one meeting in March was reserved for acceptances (a 'normal' meeting) and the second was focused on waitlist/rejection candidates.

With the weather cancellation of a meeting in early January, I wonder if they'll meet normally again or if they have already made up for that missed meeting.
