Most people want to know timelines, so I'll begin with that:
OOS
Accepted: 11/16/2010
Interviewed: 11/12/2010
Secondary Submitted: 8/17/2010
When you interview at UNC, you can tell right from the start that the school is heavily invested in its students. All the students, faculty, staff, and interviewers are warm, welcoming, and kind. They also put in the extra effort to escort/guide you to and from your interviews, which does not occur at a number of big name schools (Harvard, Yale, and UCSF for example, NOT to cast any moral judgments. Sometimes, logistical difficulties prevent schools from imitating UNC). Also, UNC keeps their interviewee groups small so that you get more personal attention (there were only seven of us on my day), and they bring in a large number of med students for you to talk to.
Because I'm OOS, it was that much more of a shock (a GOOD one!) to get the call so quickly after my interview. I can't thank Dean Bashford and the adcom enough, and I wish you all the best of luck in getting into this amazing school!
Feel free to let me know if I can help.
