I noticed that too! I'm still waiting for a decision, interview September 28th. I haven't been posting because the only thing I have to say is "UNC hurry up and quit torturing me!!" LOL

Hey all. I am instate and got the supplemental in late october. Does the supplemental mean I automatically get an interview after I send in the materials?

Thanks!

Does anyone know how late in the cycle UNC hands out interview invites? Or if they send out rejections pre-interview?

I just get the feeling I'm never going to hear from them.

I am not sure how long they hand out invites, but I do know that, according to Joni, they interview until "the very last day of February".

I wanted to ask if anybody else had the impression that how long it takes you to hear depends on who interviews you? I was told that if Dr. Bashford interviews, you will wait longer then others being that he interviews so many candidates and it takes him a while to go to the committee with each? I guess that would make sense ... being that the subcommittee has to meet before you go in front of everybody.

I guess I can't complain, I just interviewed 4 days ago ... I know I have at least 1 month left!

Good luck guys!

:luck: :luck: :luck:

When did you send in your primary app to UNC? Was it pretty late and then get a secondary late October?

finally got the secondary. primary was verified in mid september.

Is the admissions committee suppose to meet this monday? It's about every other monday right?? :scared:

Well here's hoping one of us hears something tomorrow evening!! :luck:

It looks like I'm not the only one that gets nervous every other Monday. It's roughly 3 hours before we need to start stressing out. I know it's probably too early for me to hear anything but, god willing, it would be great...especially before final exams.

Seconded..

I know! I'm trying to keep myself busy by catching up on homework and practicing a presentation I have to do this week but it's hard to concentrate today!!! :luck:

Hi everybody, long time board watcher, haven't posted many times. I just got the call tonight at 8 PM! Interviewed 11/3, and this is my third time applying.

You got it, man. Now all you got to do is coast until class starts. I'm a third time applicant myself, and I'm sure the taste of victory is sweet.

hey do you mind posting your stats? if not, no worries.

Sure, 34/3.77 and in-state.

Good luck to everybody else waiting out there!

Congrats! I interviewed the same day as you, but sadly nothing yet! I know how it is ... third time applying for me too!

Got the call last night around 8 as well! IS but currently living out west. Interviewed back in September, first time applicant.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Re applicant, didn't even get an interview. In state applicant this year 31Q/3.6 gpa. OOS last time I applied in 2008, no interview then too but that made more sense with my crappy MCAT/same gpa. I'm URM female. Ok, those are the facts. Not even an interview? Really? Totally pissed off. Oh well, got in to two top 20 schools anyway so now I'm a true UNC hater. Having gone to NCSU, GO PACK FOREVER!!!!!

Got it this morning. I'm a third time applicant, and there were times when I thought I would never get into medical school. Then I realized that there is nothing else I wanted to do in life, so I decided to apply every year until I got in. To those still waiting, keep your chin up, and if things don't work out this cycle, don't give up. I didn't.

Wow!! Congratulations!!! It's been a long time coming👍

Congrats on everyone who has interviewed and been accepted already!

I was wondering if anyone is in the same-ish boat as me.

I'm an in state reapplicant. I got my secondary in around 10-12 and am yet to hear back from UNC Chapel Hill about an interview. It seemed like they were having problems with the throughput of application this cycle due to having to fill out the residency form and email it in or whatever we had to do.

Anyways just wondering if anyone thought I should call or whatever to check up on them or if anyone has been waiting a similar length of time.

I interviewed 11/3 got the call 11/15. I will be seeing the other 169 of you next year!

Good luck to those of you who havent heard yet!

Wow! Congratulations! You must have blown them away - well done! May I ask who you interviewed with?

Don't you mean GO FACK?

Sounds like you didn't even want to go to UNC anyway, so why hate?

With such a sense of entitlement and eagerness to lash out, I'm personally glad I won't be seeing your face in the crowd at UNC. Perhaps you should try working on your narcissism a bit before approaching your potential patients.

I'm not trying to be overly harsh, but the undergraduate years typically teach students to be cocky SOBs. The sooner this is corrected, the better.

PS: Keep pulling for the "pack." They are not, and will never be, our rival.

PPS: Your stats aren't high enough for you to reasonably be surprised by a lack of an interview. A 31 is definitely good, but it's not enough to assure an interview (in fact, no score is).

Firstly, a huge congrats to everyone who got in!!! You've all got such a bright future ahead of you, I can't help but be jealous.

I'm an OOS, interviewed on 11/5, waiting anxiously to hear back. Stats- 3.7, 37. UNC was without a doubt the most wonderful school I have visited so far--everyone was so genuine and friendly. The interviewers seemed to be really nice, and one went as far as to say he'd definitely push for me. But alas! As we all know, until you get an acceptance, you are not in... not by a long-shot.

So I have three questions:
-Is there a separate out-of-state committee that meets at a different time than the every-other-Monday regular committee?

-Is it worthwhile to send along another recommendation letter or two? (I took the time to ask my interviewers if there was anything I could do to improve my application, and with a chuckle they both said no--recs are fine, grades are fine, etc.)

-If one is not accepted, do they notify you of waitlist-status or rejection-status via email?

Going stir-crazy waiting for SOME sort of news. Hope someone out there will be kind enough to help answer these questions!

Thanks, I don't know about blowing them away, in is in no matter how you made it.

I interviewed with Dr Brice and Dr Chesnutt, they were both super friendly and helpful.

I was OOS last year, IS this year. Even though it may sound trite, congrats on the interview! That is a huge step as OOS, and because they don't interview hardly anyone OOS, your chances of acceptance at this point are actually pretty good, statisically speaking. Don't let my lack of success last year be any indication of YOUR shot THIS year.

1) I don't know, sorry. 🙁

2) Last year, one of my interviewers flat out told me to send another rec. If you decide to send one, my advice would be to send through AMCAS and call to give UNC a heads up that it is there. For some reason, I had it sent directly to the school. However, if your interviewers didn't specify, it probably isn't necessary unless you feel it is, i.e. it will be an OUTSTANDING letter that adds significantly to an underrepresented part of your application. If you are weak in research and have been working with someone (since application time) who will blow them out of the water with a rec, go ahead. Ditto for clinical. If not, probably isn't worth it.

3) Yes, but don't hold your breath. I interviewed in November last year and didn't find out until April. The first round of post interview rejections went out early in the year, and the waitlist was sent out the same time as I heard back. My best advice would be to try (easier said than done) to just not think about it. Period. Focus on other schools and try not to get all bent out of shape every 2 weeks when the adcom meets. It seriously will take years off your life! 😳

Good luck! :luck:

For those who have been admitted...would you mind posting your interview date and who your adcom interviewer was, if you haven't already?

(And by the way...congrats!)

ok this might seem stupid but i want to clarify.....

i interviewed in early september and haven't heard a thing. finally got antsy and called yesterday to check on the status of my application. was told the admission committee had yet to make a final decision on me. cool.

so am i understanding correctly that i might not hear ANYTHING until april (as far as waitlist/rejections go)? and if so, do you think NOT hearing anything is then a BAD sign, rather than a good sign? (i was hoping that hearing nothing was good because maybe they're on the fence about me.....?!?)

btw, i know i'm over-analyzing this but it's all i've got to go on.....

just got rejected preinterview. good luck to everyone applying and interviewing.

Just screened in for the secondary!!! This is a bit late men. submitted back in June!!!!

just went back and read through last year's UNC forum. looks like most people accepted heard back at or around the 6-8 week mark. i'm at about 10 weeks myself....not looking so good after all. :scared:

Wow, you're mean. If you're trying not to be overly harsh, epic fail, since you finished the sentence by calling me a son of a bitch. And I'm a girl, so totally inaccurate. . . I wonder why the fact that I'm disappointed/hurt by being rejected from UNC makes you so smug? Another smug doctor, yay! Yeah, I lashed out, so what, wanna fight about it? That's a family guy joke, I don't really want to fight you, haha.

I guess I can call in March to find out the exact reason for rejection, but no point. I'm probably going to Baylor in the fall. I love North Carolina, but in more ways than one, it's time to move on. 😍Go Pack!!!!😍

Don't panic nattyrat, it is too early for that.

I am coming to the realization that many schools hold on to the applicants that they might want and they compare them to other applicants that they might want too. This way the school has the luxury of picking and choosing the candidates they want to assemble the class. By holding onto an applicant they can compare that person to people who are just interviewing now. This whole process, I fear, will indeed potentially play out into spring of next year. IMO, this is not truly a rolling admissions, though technically it is. This is just my take on things.

You have not been rejected, it is still way to early to throw the towel in 👍

Nessy thanks for the reassuring words 🙂

And c'mon guys, i come to this forum to share the collective neuroses of med school application anxiety with my fellow pre-meders in a quasi-anonymous environment, not to read bickering LOL

The general consensus last year was "no news is good news."

Yes, MAYBE you MIGHT not hear something until April. MAYBE you might hear next week. MAYBE you MIGHT be waitlisted and be accepted in July. All I can give is my experience. My experience was hearing nothing until April. Some people got in after a number of months. Unfortunately I don't think there is a hard and fast rule at UNC. Everyone else is right, they have the luxury of picking and choosing who they want. I know that doesn't help your anxiety, so I'm sorry.

:luck: still, for all of us!
